One of the American cousins made a hames of encoding the 5.1 surround audio tracks, loosing the one with the dialogue audio.
Other American cousins made a better job of it ;)

There's 2 out there, one with the voice track missing, the other had the voice track but it's out by a millisecond or two.

James May on the RedBull 001: "It has 1 horse power per kilogram and no other car gets close to that"

    Ehem................. The Koenigsegg One:1 ?

This episode wasn't near as good as last week. That army thing was just timewasting stupid

It's becoming a pain to watch.

    Between audio issues etc.

Takes a while to get things working on a 3mb line

    First half ok, second painful.

The burn n smoke was good.

Would never have been shown on TG, health &safety dept would have had a coronary.

What was the point at all of the military stuff? It wasn't even in South Africa or anything to do with cars. Pretty boring stuff.

Its a show with cars surrounding it, not a show surrounding cars. I thought the military bit was good craic.

Wondered if the duff version was put out there by Amazon themselves to discourage/frustrate illicit downloaders. Who else would have access to the separate audio streams?

There's a third version that has the audio fixed.

Is there 2 threads on this?

Anyway the second episode wasn't the best....putting it mildly

I think amazon could have paid off the people who did the unreal quality upload for the first week.

All they have to do is hit a few weeks in a row where it's a pain in the arse to pirate it and then people will justify the few euro a month for prime to watch it hassle free. Clever and I have no issue with that if it is the case.

I enjoyed the episode. I thought the army bit could have been cut a lot tighter which is a strange thing to be saying about the impeccably edited TG/TGT it almost felt like amazon have a maximum cost per minute set and they had spent X amount on this trip and had to make it last XX minutes.

What would have been better than the army thing IMO would have been the three of them attempting to build their own cars like the man with the 1:32 scale car. Especially if they then had to take said cars diffing at the slab.

Since they were doing the iterations of the army stuff over and over, surely they could have taken a different car each time? S8L, 760, LS 600, etc that VIPs generally would be ferried around in.. then had some of them be able to get away and not others and sort of turn it into a yano.. car review..

I thought it was good, I must have been in a good mood watching it because lots of people seem to have disliked it

One thing that is bothering me is the flanderization of James May. He used to be slow in the methodical sense not slow in the retarded sense of the word.

It used to be the small one the fat one and the slow one but now it's the american public favourite, the small quiet one, and the slow buffoon. They won't be able to keep up this new dynamic when on a long adventure type episode.. and if they do it could be incredibly painful

Well after an initial promising opening episode this week was a return to the drivel, except now it's more expensive drivel.

    Anyone that saved it.

in fact if they saved a surround sound version, they would have 6 audio tracks.

The poor audio quality, is as a result of ppl rushing to make it available .

Audio is fine on the one I saw but the sync was off a bit.

Not as good as last week but still decent. I think I miss the silence of the Stig though. "The American" is just not up to it IMO.

I was deeply disappointed when Charlize Theron didn't make it to the studio, other than that I enjoyed the episode. The non car bits are to be expected given the length of the show imo.

First one was decent, thought this week's was trunks.

    The American is kat.

Hopefully the American won't make it to season 2

Definitely preferred the first episode but second still enjoyable. Audio out of sync by about a second watching on both the fire TV and the amazon video app. First time have ever seen this issue with anything in Amazon

I really don't have the pulse of the nation

TBH I preferred the 2nd ep - I found it more traditional top gear (with a bit more oomph)

I started watching the out-of-sync version before I stopped after 5 mins as it was damn irritating. I waited before I found a better source.

I reckon that I would've had a completely different attitude towards the episode if I sat through the original version.

I should have hated the military bit but I couldn't. Clarkson's pants falling down mid rappel, then grenade blowing him to shít on landing.... :D
I just hope they get the balance right. That was a pure entertainment episode. It would be nice to see more actual car segments, reviews etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,004 ✭✭✭ironclaw

Missed a beat on the second one in my opinion, very little of it had to do with cars. I only reflected on it having finished it and a huge amount of air time was story or cut away, not actually a car. It was literally the Aston for about 5 mins and the S8. The James May segment really didn't make sense, seemed to be a favour to JBurg to let them film there, it had no narrative or real purpose (Bar a small jibe at May) The army bit was good but like has been said, could have been cut a lot tighter and the joke got old fairly quick.

First time I've ever fallen a asleep during an episode of TG/GT. When I work up they were still horsing around with guns etc. Didn't enjoy the episode at all. The new track doesn't let them open up the cars at all. Fun for hot hatches but hyper cars need more than 1:15 worth of track.

Not just one - apparently in 2009 military personnel spent 141 days filming for Top Gear (https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2016/nov/25/the-grand-tour-can-jeremy-clarkson-and-his-cronies-keep-up-the-pace).
