Is anyone else saddened to see that Ken was in Vienna as opposed to New York for the McGregor fight?

I know the football was a bigger story and very much Ken's expertise, but I love Ken reporting from McGregorland.

I want to know what he thought of the Web Summit in Lisbon.

Was there an article I missed? Or was he only there in a personal capacity?

He was there because he was paid by the organisers to interview guests so I wouldn't expect him to say anything bad about it or anyone he spoke to.

I'm pretty sure I remember some of them (maybe not Ken) complaining about journalists being expected to give their time to the Dublin Web Summit for free. Maybe I'm imagining that.

Yeah you're right on that actually but presume it has changed this year. Can't see the IT paying for him to go over there. It wasn't a big enough deal.

Since that cock up he had at the airport the Irish Times haven't dispatched him to either of McGregor's last two fights:pac:

He was chatting to Eoin and Murph on the podcast while waiting to board a flight to go the Ireland-Bosnia match in Sarajevo. He ends up calling back the lads later on in the podcast to say that the boarding gate is closed and he wasn't able to board the flight! :D

Getting sick of their coverage of MMA... it's always discussed with a negative slant.

McGregor has done incredibly well for himself and deserves credit for it. Giving out about fighters on the fence. How is that different to two boxers holding each other in the middle of the ring.

I'm a boxing fan but the way it has conducted its business in the last two decades has ruined it.

"It's a bit of a pile of ****e" good balanced coverage lads.

Ken was gushing in his praise for McGregor after he was sent to cover the fight in Las Vegas. He might take the piss out of the hubris and the media games, but I think he has great admiration for McGregor personally.

Defo the second captains have always had a negative attitude to mma. Ken softened to it big time after attending some events but still was annoyed at the fighter pay.

The lads have seriously gone down in my estimations over the last few weeks. Its gone from my essential podcast to one I tune into when I feel like putting up with some crap. The trump bashing, all white mans fault, mma hating and the non stop book plugging...with more US Murph than my stomach can handle....

Calm down lads, pod gone too political and preachy...

What, you expect them to change for your benefit? They express their opinions, you don't like it because their opinions differ from yours - tough.

Who was the clown reporting on MMA and why are we listening to him if he doesn't like or even appreciate the sport?

    Calm down.

Fair enough they have different opinions, not arguing with that. There's just no need to have the trump bashing on three different podcasts in one week only being interrupted by book plugs...

I never heard them get a boxing hater on after andy lee wtc wins a title that means he is barely top ten in his weight class.

Lad who steeped in for McDevitt was really good.

I fast forward the MMA sections... It's supposed to be a sports podcast

For consistency I pile through any boxing content as well.. I'm a lover not a fighter.

Plus i think McGregor is a massive bell.

That would be Mark Horgan, the producer.

In what way was he a 'clown'?

Yeah you're right, fighting isn't a sport. Only invented in the last few years, I think it was only invented when Conor McGregor came along.

I enjoyed the occasional bits of Ken being stunned into outrage by Trump's performances on the debates, but after the election I realised that Ken was absolutely the last person that I wanted to hear talk about it.

That's not because I support Trump: I can scarcely believe the man ran for President, him actually winning feels like a nightmare come to life.

BUT - as soon as I heard that the boys had spat out an Election Special I knew what to expect. Ken is next to useless right now on this issue. His histrionics and Twitter meltdown in the immediate aftermath of the election show him to be stuck resolutely with the frame of mind of HOW could this event happen. And that's entertaining and all, but it's also superficial. A more pertinent question would be WHY. Why did people vote Trump? Try to go a bit deeper than just throwing your toys out of the pram in the face of unpalatable reality. If you dismiss ALL Trump voters as just "fascist morons" then you're showing yourself as someone severely lacking in critical thinking.

Good Football show today, Ken talking about stuffing his face at the game, the rolling maul leaving the Irish press conference and Dion saying that McClean retweets positive stuff about himself and Ken going 'I'll definitely send him my last article'

What an unnecessary dig. Andy Lee was a world champion and he was definitely top 10. Ridiculous comment.

Well that sort of helps my point, second captains didn't have me on the show. Someone who doesn't know much about boxing who doesn't like the sport and is going to give negative opinions.

Seems to do rugby mostly, which I often skip, but he's very professional.

I seemed to have missed all the political stuff, maybe because I'm actively avoiding offence!

My advice would be to avoid most US political satire for a while because it will be insufferable, there will be little originality or anything profound said.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Hey, not everyone has to like the same things. Be a boring world if that was the case.

No one is asking for everyone to like the same thing. Unbiased, balanced coverage would be nice though.

Why though? It's their podcast. They aren't a state broadcaster. They can take whatever angle they like.

I didn't listen to the extract as I fast forward through such segments.
