For Hannigan to be the only contributor talking about the fight was bad form IMO, even as someone who doesn't like MMA in any way, and as someone who thinks McGregor is a complete clown.
    Agreed!
Personally sick of the "oh its all show mcgregor is a great lad really". He's a complete prick!
But surely has to be some respect for what he has achieved. Hannigan was a complete bore..and the ali thing wtf?!

Ken at his best makes the podcast for me but he's sounding condescending way too much lately....maybe just comes off that way

They covered the Hannigan segment on todays podcast.

They are not getting people's issue with the segment, I don't care if you like the McGregor or not. They should have had someone from both camps on to discuss it. But was Monday really the correct time for such negative coverage of McGregor?

    Edit:

Shane Horgans phone line is insanely loud.

Ken actually seems to have some time for McGregor and enjoyed winding Hannigan up the last day. Mark Horgan definitely had trouble hiding his dislike of him (McGregor that is). Between him and Hannigan it gave a very negative spin to the segment with Ken chipping in occasionally trying to bring some balance.

Same. I feel like they've jumped on the whole tabloid aspect of the story. Who cares if he goes on the lash? Granted the pics were amusing but really...

You know it's international week when people care whether or not someone had a few glasses of wine.

The "Bum note/posh bash" headline was the epitome of tabloid press, and Ken talking about potato faced celtic mongrels compared to descendants of Agincourt was great. It seemed to me that the were, correctly, covering the coverage rather than the story.

Didn't catch the woman's name who covered the Argentina/south America stuff... She was excellent.

It's a bit hard to catch - Marcela Mora y Araujo. She writes for the Guardian.

I think I prefer Ken talking about other sports, his take on the Rugby was hilarious and true 'we're going to get a good idea of the pattern on the soles of their boots' and 'they may have the hard muscular power on the Rugby field but we've got a loud whiney voice in the world's media which we deploy to full effect'

The guy covering the Swedish soccer was hilarious. I loved his paraphrasing of Henrik Larssons tirade after the game "He wanted to batter the bejesus out of them" (might not be Henriks or the correspondents actual words but words to that effect!! )

Seems Rabo Direct have wrapped up their sponsorship of the podcast if their lack of an appearance on Thursday's pods were anything to go by.
Anyone thought of buying the Second Captains Sports Annual?

Although none of us like having to listen to advertising, I really hope this won't impact on the pod's viability as a going concern.

Who's the person doing the voiceover for the Irish Times ad... Seems familiar but can't recognise the voice.

You'd have to assume that some other company would be keen to step-in. I stream the show on SoundCloud, and their podcasts are consistently around the top of the sports charts with in excess of 30k streams. These numbers are probably comparable to OTB's current JNLR figures I'd imagine, or not too far off at least.

Can't wait to hear what Horgan does with that 'cheap shot' audio.

Thought the sports show was one of the least interesting in a long time

Just on this, OTB have risen to 50,000 listeners each night. Second Captains pods tend to peak around 40,000 on SoundCloud after a week. As ever when I compare the listenerships on this thread, caveat that I don't know whether or not iTunes listeners are included in that total or not.

Well, I used to listen on SoundCloud but now through Podcast Republic and I'd imagine a lot of android users use different apps to download. Android would have at least as much share would it not? I don't know. Maybe someone could shed some light on how figures are tallied?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,528 ✭✭✭batistuta9

Android has a far bigger market share worldwide, about 80%.

they'd be able to tell the numbers from wherever they're hosting the files I'd think.

Anyone any idea why Andy Lee didn't feature in the live podcast last night? (aside from the Fair View).
