Son of a bun, gourmet burger bistro, coqbull, there are loads of similar ones. I'd say they don't give a toss. Cork people clearly like to eat burgers.

Boojum is a step above any burrito place in Cork

Two new eateries in the north side.

There's a Georgian fast food place on the bottom of Shandon Street, called Puri I tried it yesterday and will go back to try something else. I had a traditional dish of meat, (chicken, pork or beef) cooked with potatoes, onions, green pepper and mushrooms. Very simple, good grub. They have burgers, pizzas and kebabs but plenty of traditional Georgian food too. I hope they survive.

Also, on popes quay a new Nepalese place has opened where Bierhalle/Charcoal grill/Peri peri chicken /La quila was. Totally new operation, not another reworking. It's called Thali Namaste. I haven't tried it yet but the menu looks good and I've heard good things.

There are more and more Georgian people coming to Cork. I noticed this in an inner city school I worked in. All very nice children.

That place is so bloody confusing. Changes names and owner every couple of weeks.

This is an entirely new operation.
No connection with the old efforts afaik

That's strange about Lal Quila/Charcoal Grill cos I just bought a living social voucher for Lal Quila, which apparently can be used in the restaurant in Douglas or Popes Quay......so I wonder what happens if someone wants to book Popes Quay restaurant....I didn't even remember that they had a Lal Quila on Popes Quay anyway, so I booked Douglas .

Got a pizza delivered from Heaven Pizza on Victoria Cross last night. Must say it was extremely tasteless.

Got chips as well and those were incredible.

Went to Isaacs for lunch this weekend - having said I was looking for a place that did steaks - our party was too hungover from Friday night to eat that much

Had Brie & Chicken Tarragon - both were quite good - got a small jug of house wine which was top notch it must be said, checked the menu just there and can't see the name unfortunately but believe it was Argentinian

Has it been confirmed that it's Bunsen & Boojum? If so then do we have locations?

I have never eaten in Isaac's as I always had the impression that it was very loud in there from when ever I walked past... how do others find the noise level in there? Esp. at night time..

I've enjoyed eating there always tbh - noise has never really been an issue for me

One comment my friend made was that the interior of the building is top notch, but he felt the tables could do with an upgrade, that's the first piece of criticism I've heard leveled against the place too!

Hi guys, myself and my girlfriend are in Cork for the weekend and we're looking for a restaurant to eat this evening. Last time we visited we ate at Elbow Lane (which had the best steak I've ever had and great service for a reasonable price), unfortunately it seems it's closed(getting work done I guess).

Long story short, any recommendations for a place that does a great steak and serves big enough portions?

    Thanks :)

ya it burned down! hoping it reopens cos it's quality.

if i was you, holy smoke for their new FLAT IRON STEAK. i haven't tried it myself yet but it looks unreal: https://www.facebook.com/HolySmokeCork/videos/677818352394073/

dunno about portion sizes, think it's small enough, you'll have to get a few sides. if it's a big feed you want, get the bbq blow out tray. at €30 you're supposed to share but i usually get one for myself. unreal, well worth the price.

    menu for holy smoke:

Thanks for the reply, that's crazy.. It is quality, one of the reasons I came back..

We've found a spot, "Liberty Grill", waiting on the order now.. We were lucky to find a spot without reservation.. But I'll keep an eye on that place you recommend for the next time.

    Thanks again

It's a bit on the small side but still good, doesn't beat elbowlane.. I'm just happy to get a good stake.. I was sober when I ate at elbowlane, but tipsy now so may be affecting my judgment.

Haven't had Elbow Lane steak yet...I prefer a fillet. But must try when they re-open.

Had another out of this world meal in Bastion during the week for our anniversary. Easily the best restaurant in the county IMO. There's a new tasting menu on the way too.

Another great steak option is Jacques, who sometimes do a Cote du Boeuf for 2

its a shame Zamora is gone - it was soo good - I was looking forward to going more often.. we need more places like this I think - just good local food with a bit of flare but at reasonable (but realistic) prices..

Boojum opening on winthrop street in January

Popped in to mention Fenn's Quay. Ate there recently... had forgotten what quality food they do there with all the new places that have been opening. It's a good one. Lots of attention to ingredients (plenty of locally sourced stuff, smoking their own salmon etc).

Shame about Gino's, simply because it was in Cork for so long, but haven't been there in years myself. I only passed it recently and was wondering to myself was it still doing well.....obviously not.
