Friends from Clare hitting Baltimore for New years eve - any recommendations for food within walking distance from Casey's hotel ? Trying to decide if better off staying in hotel for dinner that night .

Seconded. Top quality, and can be ordered in the pub as well.

Ten of us went to Brook Inn in Glanmire last Saturday night. Fantastic food, nobody had any complaints.

I went for the wings for starter, rib-eye steak for main, both were absolutely delicious.

Have to agree with this - 5 of us had brunch there a month or two again when I was down here. I had mushrooms on toast and it was very good.

Top class meal again at ORSO over the weekend. The most delicious pulled beef and a wonderfully flavoured chicken dish with some lamb sfeehas and sides of crispy chilli bread - to die for!

I see there's signage up now for a place called 12 Tables in Douglas (where Nakhon Thai used to be). I've heard nothing else about it though. At least it doesn't sound like fast food :P

Had a meal in the Cornstore as part of a work night out two weeks ago, must say I thought the food was excellent. Staff were on the ball despite our manager getting the size of the team wrong so they had to re-set another table for us. The place was jointed too.

Anyone hear anything about Elbow Lane reopening? It's been about 4 months since the fire.
Hope it does reopen soon, one of my favourite spots.

Interested in this too. We go to the Market Lane next door a lot and it is sucks that they do not have Elbow Lane beer while closed.

Always found it an enjoyable lively place to spend an evening. Food nice without being anything special.

I went to Nosta last night and if you are a fan of grilled meat / Lebanese / Turksih / Mediterranean style dishes get your arses in there NOW!

I got the grilled lamb dish and the missus got the adana dish. Hers was delicious but I preferred my lamb one. Lovely tender meat. Perfectly seasoned and has that faint "cooked over the coals" flavour, nice dish overall - comes with chips, bulgur rice, dipping sauce, salad, Lebanesey bread. The interior is dark enough and stylish. Could be good for a date too. The menu isn't just grilled meat though there are a good few other options (seafood & pasta) that I haven't tried. But that grilled meat holy bejaysus it's yum.

^^^ I want that now!!! Looks gorgeous!

The interior lighting was low so not very camera friendly. I "boosted" the photo a bit which might make it look a bit unnatural. Anyway do give it a go. It's quite a big serving too, I regretted buying a starter. I was well satisfied and I'm 6 foot 1.

I'm 6 foot 1 too. I use it regularly to excuse my gluttony!

Is the circle thing the bulgar wheat?

Chips look frozen and undercooked, but the meat looks good alright.
Cheap and cheerful? How much was that?

The circle thing is the bulgur wheat yeah. Kind of a tomato flavour..

Chips were definitely not undercooked, they were delicious and crispy. It's probably the lighting. No idea if they're frozen. That doesn't bother me anyway.

€14.95 for the dish. Not cheap not expensive. It's worth it for the meat though. I believe it's cheaper at lunchtime, around €11 or €12-ish.

I like the idea of grilled meats but when ever I have been to nosta I found the sides v v poor (compare with sides in similar places like ORSO and The Sultan).. the meat was good.. but meat is not dining experience alone,..

also the place is soo draughty.. and dark and staff v disinterested..

Pity as I like grilled meats.. wish we had more middle eastern places in town - but would not go back to Nosta.. sadly...

Different folks though.. I don't mean to criticize you - but I would go to back..

Perhaps I'll be the odd one out but nothing on the plate looks tasty to me! Nevertheless it is always nice to try new places and if I'm in the area I'll give it a shot.

Anyone tried the white rabbit on McCurtain street?

That's about right for it I'd say.

Had a couple today. Tasty, not amazing maybe I was expecting more. €3 a pop so not cheap but they seem to be doing really well for their first week.

I'll try a few more flavours over the coming weeks.

3 each! For a doughnut. They would want to be good in fairness.

Memories from when I was a poor student in Dublin; walking up O Connell Street I would frequently have to pass a donut street vendor (well it was a kind of shop but you ordered through the window from the street, if you know what I mean - Like Leonidas on OP street)... awe the smell use to drive me crazy.. sugar and grease hmm... but they were out of my food budget,.. (the cheapest bread and cheese sarnies in my lunch box no doubt).. awe... memories..

There used to be a place like that on Paul street next to the Gingerbread Hoise (now Amicus). 10 small doughnuts for 2 euro or something. It was heaven!
