Hendricks is sweet and often drank with a heavy slice of cucumber... it's good if you're new to gin. It comes in a very cool bottle, which is part of the reason for its success.

Tanqueray is a more sophisticated taste, and more refreshing (as gin should be), its my personal go to gin. I also have a couple of bottles of Tanqueray 10, for special occasions, like Tuesdays...

Some of the boutique brands are great, like Monkey 47. A great idea is to find a good gin bar that do infusions... Or go to Spain, they do great gin & tonics...

I'm just back from Capetown, where we found a secret/hidden gin bar... You have to find it by going through the back of a chocolate shop. They made us each a completely different drink (seven of us) and they were all completely different in that... They produced all their own infusions... Really amazing

Bertha's is available in Dunnes, as is Gunpowder, Dingle and Shepherd's Purse. Would like feedback on Shepherd's Purse if anyone has tried it ?? Also, where in Ireland is G'Vine available ? Thanks

I'm curious about shepherd's purse too.
Not cheap for what looks like a Dunnes own brand.

Weird cos Tesco finest London Gin used to be around £15 and its roughly about 25e in Ireland now. Its good though.

I'm after Silent Pool if anyone has seen it anywhere although I doubt it. Gonna have to get onto Masters of Malt and get it ordered. They have magnificent gin glasses on their site though that I need in my life. The Gin has won gold awards and have read some absolutely stonkingly good reviews.

    Had Shepherds Purse last week.

Very nondescript. Not worth it IMO

New 'Best Irish Gin' (Irish whiskey awards) is Boyle's Gin.
Not released just yet, will keep you posted.

    As, promised :

Boyle's Gin, "Best Irish Gin" is an Aldi exclusive.
    €24.99 70cl. 40%abv

Rather good value, if you ask me!

Had anybody spotted this in the wild yet?
Article online claimed it was on sale yesterday, but no d sign of it in my local Aldi, and that seemed too be the common feedback on the comments in article.

Seems it was in some shops yesterday but won't be in all shops until Sunday.

    Is that Boyle's Gin nice?
My favourite gin at the moment is Gunpowder, followed closely by Dingle Gin. Bombay Sapphire is my go to gin when in a bar with very little gin choice.
Tanqueray is becoming a firm favourite as well, have a bottle of that and Tanqueray No. 10 at home picked up in Duty Free in Spain - I find them very refreshing (agree with Bluefoam as to that is what a gin should be).
I have never been a fan of Hendricks (could be to do with my hatred of cucumber though), and cannot stomach Cork Dry.

Well, I am biased as I make Boyle's Gin!
Boyle's is a kind of fruity Gin but subtly so. It has apples, elderflower and blackcurrants in the distillation and a good spicy backbone. It's an easy drinking Gin. I like it but not as much as our Blackwater No. 5.

Those flavours sound like they could be good - will try pick up a bottle in Aldi this weekend. Looking forward to trying it :)

. I like it but not as much as our Blackwater No. 5.

As it's at least double the price you kind of have to say that! ;-)

What size is the bottle - 50cl or 75cl?

Is it more subtle than Brockmans? RE fruitiness?

I got a bottle in Letterkenny today. One store was out, the other had 2 left. Apparently each store only got 6 bottles!

Tried Jawbox Gin recently when I was in Belfast - wasn't a fan. The barman recommended it over Shortcross (which I have never tried) - sorry now I didn't order the Shortcross going by this thread.

I bought a bottle of Sipsmith London Gin going through Heathrow last week - mainly because I like gin, I liked the bottle and the price was right (worked out about €26, for 70cl).

Not tried it yet but did I make a good buy?

    It's a 70cl bottle

    Much more subtle.
I think Brockman's tastes like Ribena.

Always wondered, why is cl used instead of ml for spirits? And why not call it 7dl?

But yes, 70cl. It's been sitting on my desk staring at me since lunch!

Searched for it in three Aldi stores today with no joy :( My local said they might have it on Sunday. I'll have to suffer on with my Blackwater tonight I suppose..:

If I can't pick this Boyles Gin up in Aldi, where else can it be bought?

Nowhere, I'm afraid. It's exclusive to Aldi.
It should be consistently on all Aldi shelves by the end of the week.

I bought the 2nd last bottle in Finglas last night around closing time. Had a few last night, lovely little tipple.

IMO this nicest Gin I've ever tasted was Fifty pound Gin. The stuff is on another level.
