Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Now that the 2016 thread has been closed, time to start thinking about Paris. Does anyone know when they are going to announce who will captain the teams?

Jim Furyk and Thomas Bjorn! Maybe Thomas Levet as it's in France but most likely Bjorn.

I really hope not.I don't think I can listen to any more sh1te about him.

It seems everything he says and does is absolutely hilarious despite him not being entertaining at all.

In fairness though that's not his fault

Surely Tyler Hatton will be a shoe in for the next team

Really?..... a guy who shows a bit of love for what he does?? I don't think anyone said he's hilarious..... he is what golf needs more of..... I.e. personality.....
And he can play a bit.

Some good ones in there. Dont think Langasque will be the French man. I actually I think there will be 2 frenchmen. Alexander Levy and Victor Dubuisson. I think Chris Wood will get back there again, he looks really good and I would expect Kaymer to make it on merit

Rory, Rose, Stenson, Sergio, Pieters, Kaymer, Dubuisson, Noren, RCB, Rahm, Wood, Levy

but he's fat, has a funny beard and weird teeth ?
I totally agree with you by the way, and i think there will come a time when he realises he should let his golf do the talking, great to have a character but he tries, way, way, way too hard

Agree as well. Seems a nice guy and all that but I don't get the star attraction. We will all have to go veggie and forget about The Beef.

Will rahm ever join the European tour or has he. Have a feeling all he wants is the pga tour.

Seemed (to me) to be the yank fans that have warmed to him. He himself doesn't shout "beef" after he hit shots. He's not instigating attention his way. He's interviewed, gives his opinions & responds friendly to fans and that's it. Commentators make him out to be some cRaZy guy. But he appears to me to be focussed on his game, just with a different accent and build to most of the other guys.

don't get me wrong he's seems decent, even funny, but all the running around high fiving the crowds going from tee to green, doing way more interviews talking about being himself and other nonsense that has nothing to do with his game. I think he's been made a mug of personally by the media, but i'm sure he's raking it in through endorsements.
At what price though, selling your soul is never good. I'd say concentrate on your game and sign autographs and be nice when the round is done

i think it was the obvious choice myself with the mans experience, both playing and on the tour committee,
Seems like a chap all the players would get on with too, unlike Clarke

played once, 17 years ago, right after his open meltdown
wasn't picked to play at all, Friday or Saturday
lost his singles, actually he didn't just loose, he was walloped

has he ever featured as a vice captain? or done any sort of captaining at all?

why on earth would anyone think he should be captain?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,192 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Think he meant "involved", not captain, a vice captain would be a good move, help with local logistics/profiling the event in France where I assume he is well known/language barrier etc

Captained the European team in 2011 Seve trophy. Paul McGinley captained GB&I

yea, well captain chooses the vice captains so considering he was only appointed yesterday there is plenty of time for him to choose vice captains down the road

could be a good choice for vice alright. he can teach the team how to choke and then they can do the opposite :D

not sure on thomas being a good choice seems quite moody which could effect decsion making during the match. I think this was always on the cards though.

Jim furyk confirmed as the American Ryder cup captain for 2018.

Love will be a vice captain.

Thought it was going to be Stricker as he is captaining the presidents cup team this year.

That would have seen Matthew Fitzpatrick missing out last year.

They have also decided to give a 50% weighting bonus to the events played in the last 3 months of qualifying. That makes the Masters much less important than the other 3 majors and more or less puts it on parity with the European PGA Championship

Also tournaments outside of Europe won't count in weeks when a Rolex series is on. Good news for the Irish Open if it remains in the series in 2018. Plus it will qualify for the 50% bonus points if it retains its new July date next year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,068 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

I'm not so sure the extra wildcard can be that good or even important. especially with all the other changes which look very good

I agree, I think the additional weighting for tournaments closer to the Ryder Cup will have a much greater impact, you want the guys with form playing over the guy who won two tournaments 12 months previously but is now off the boil for example

I registered and got a code but don't think I will buy any tickets after mulling it over ,they are very expensive.

It's first come first served this year unlike others which were a lottery so demand is obviously lower.

Yeah and its a year away so this ID thing on tickets put me off .

I got through in the queue but didn't buy the tickets ,I got timed out when trying to fill in all the bloody details for each person, ridiculous .
Myself and the wife cant commit to definitely going ,and I dont think you can give the tickets to someone else due to ID restrictions ,especially with the terrorism alert in France so it might be for the best.

Those prices are pretty hefty! I can't remember how much I paid for tickets for Valhalla in 2008, but I'm sure it was less than half that amount.

The price shown for the week is the total of the 6 daily prices. Is there no discount for buying a season ticket?

No reduction for a weekly ticket ,I think you actually get 6 daily tickets, which is ridiculous.

Tickets for the last Ryder cup in the US were $130 per day ,less than 100 euro at the time and there was a reduction for a weekly ticket.
They are 150 -175 euro per day for Paris ,similar to Gleneagles in 2014.
Its a corporate affair now .

How much were they for the K club out of interest - was there on Thursday as someone gave me their weekly pass

  • Registered Users Posts: 54 ✭✭Rum Ham!

I ended up not buying tickets because my friend who was joining me wasn't fully committed and I didn't fancy being left stuck. I was going to get a couple of Thursday tickets but ended up not bothering either. Factoring in everything I felt it was going to get pretty expensive.

The US picks established famous courses whereas the European tour basically picks whoever will give them the most money .Its all about trying to make as much moola as possible .

Picked up 3 Saturday and 3 Sunday tickets yesterday. Total including shipping was €1,015 so €338 per person.

We also went to Gleneagles in 2014 on the Saturday and Sunday and it cost £268.50 each.

Paul Casey confirms he will rejoin European tour for 2018. Will be a big boost to European team. Let's just hope he doesn't bottle it like he does in strokeplay.

Bit early to be starting this thread but sure why not.

I am booking a little golf holiday to coincide with the Ryder cup. Last time the Cup was held in Europe the tee times were as follows for the Fri/Sat

1st group 7.30 am morning and 13.15 afternoon. Given France is an hour ahead of GMT would I be right to assume aprox 6.30 and 12.30?

Planning my rounds to maximize viewing time
