also just wondering, Open Eir keep tweeting the fact that they laid over 10 km of Fiber especially for the Ploughing Show near Mucklagh, outside of Tullamore. This area doesn't have any blue lines. Wonder will they make use of that fiber afterwards to connect up a few homes.

edit: blue lines is near enough to that location and when you see where it's coming from its Rahan, the village that's due to go live mid October. The ploughing championships is probably why Rahan is been looking after so early!

I have a picture taken of a telephone pole equipped with fibre cabling on the road bouncing the ploughing site, Skeggen Co. Offally. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7s2idUk5Qi8VTEwc0QyTjlHOUk

With that logic if my landline stops working in july because of branches of a tree falling on it - then openeir can do nothing about it until september?? I know they can be slow to fix things but wtf?

    That's not what I said.

Maybe they'll assign a load of them to gathering, processing and presenting data so the insatiable appetite for dates, dates, dates!! on here can be satisfied. Of course that would slow the rollout itself down as Eir doesn't have limitless resources, but we want dates!!

    I prefer figs :P

Trees etc tangling in phone wires is just as dangerous, as who knows who needs to use a phone - not a mobile - to call the fire brigade/ambulance etc...

    also your internet...that's most important...

oh yeah just noticed today is the 22nd of September! 22 days into hedge cutting season - and not one hedge cut around this unruly part of the countryside. Come on eir we want dates and hedges cut pronto! Forget about my 2.5mb dl that's grand sure i'm only on boards.ie and that's soooo last gen.

    I have a quick question.

The Main cabinet in the village I live in is being upgraded to fibre and is due to go live next month.(Number 1 with the red circle on the map)

If I enter my line attenuation in to a calculator it tells me that I am 1079 meters from the exchange. Which would seem about right.

However just at the entrance of my estate there is one of the smaller green eir exchanges (Red Triangle circled number 2 on the map)

    http://oi47.tinypic.com/r1zy1d.jpg

Will eir run the fibre cable from the main exchange to these smaller green cabinets that are in most estates? If that is the case than I might be able to get a much faster speed.

Distance doesn't matter with fibre apparently

Check your location on the Openeir map. Zoom in until you can see coloured dots. Hover over both dots that you refer to and tell us what they say.

The 1st dot is MIK1_EO1 Fibre Broadband is expected to go live 12 Oct. That would be Number 1 on the map I shared.

Number 2 on the map is not an exchange,It is one of those small green cabinets to seem to be in most estates http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/attachments/sky-broadband-fibre-help/3524d1343262477-bt-update-fttc-exchange-list-2012-07-25-11.15.22-480x640-.jpg

I know it is not an exchange. That is why it is called Fibre to the Cabinet. Does number 2 have a date? If indeed you are connected to it you could expect much higher speeds up to 100Mb/s depending on distance.

Number 2 is not even on the map :(

That's unfortunate that they do not plan to place a fibre cabinet at the entrance to your estate. However the whole area is covered in blue lines on the map so you will most likely get FTTH probably under the National Broadband Plan.

I can't remember what the SLA is, but for domestic lines you could be days or weeks before they get to repair a break caused by a fallen tree.

An electrical line sparking all over the road would be a somewhat more urgent matter and would be treated as such. :P

    Depends on the circumstances.

Road blocked/public danger (Manhole open, VDSL cab not locked, pole about to fall and OpenEir will class it as an emergency and deal with immediately. That means clean up. Pole gets pulled into the ditch. Then the repair is logged under normal priority.

OAPs and MediAlert(Pacemaker triggers/fall detectors/panic buttons) used to be very much prioritized but thats less so the case now. Many systems are now cellular anyways.

Bad weather damage from Jan to mid Feb and you're f'ckd. Check COMREGs faults reports and you'll see 80-95% on time for 3 quarters then 40% in the 4th.

This topic was started today when somebody mentioned that the FTTH rollout was hampered by the spring/summer hedge cutting ban and that people were objecting to openeir cutting hedges - I don't see it as being much of a factor in delaying the rollout at the moment, but people want to believe that it's holding things up.

I think the main reason why the rollout is delayed for most locations is Eir finishing the FTTC rollout which probably delayed the training and not enough lads hired to finish FTTC and start FTTH at same time, hopefully today's 100 new positions will see things moving much faster in 2017.

The hedge cutting would have nothing to do with it, most of the hedge cutting was done in March and April for phase 1, although some of it probably has to be redone.

I don't see cutting of actual hedges yet, but there has been some cutting high up in trees near me in the last few days. Including one where there is an amusing hole right through the canopy where the line passes through. Like a Polo tree.

I see KN are back moving on with the FTTH work in our area. We are due for Autumn/Winter 2016 and about 2 miles down the road today they are pushing orange cable through the new manholes which appeared lately.

I see that all of the poles that already have been done have a bright blue loop of cable coming from them, would that be them ready to connect up to homes?

They are getting nearer to me...

Seeing some new manholes around our area too.
What's the story with them? How do they help?

Easy one this..It's for a man to go down a hole....

Right...What are manholes used for...answer...access points for ducting/pipes.

Our local area is down for FTTH from H2 2017, just noticed this morning lots of poles on the blue-line route have D labels tacked to them, poles beyond the indicated blue lines of equal or worse condition have no label. No hedge cutting happening yet.

They really look like water meters to me.
Would they have Eir or openeir branding on?

They might not always but I think the water meters always have water meter written on them.

6 new manholes were created here in April when KNN started work on the blue line. All manholes are an orange shade of brown, rectangular and have Eircom branded on every one of them.

Was in Fisherstown, Co. Kildare yesterday and all the phone poles had blue PVC subduct run to them. Fisherstown on the map is completely made of blue lines and is due for Winter 2016.
Was feeling a bit envious as I'm based in Kildangan (due H2 2017) but this morning a KN networks van arrived and they have just pulled the subduct through to my phone pole.
Was speaking with the guys as they were just using a shovel to dig down to access the existing duct and they are currently going around the country (were in Kiltegan last week) trying to pull subduct on any poles where they can which don't require machinery to be used. If for any reason machinery is needed its sent back to the planners to allocate a different team but this can delay things a couple of months depending on the additional work required.
Interesting thing is the blue line on http://fibrerollout.ie/where-and-when/ for our road extends about 1km down the road but on the plans the guys doing the ducting have they only go 500m.

Decided to ditch eir and go with a fixed wireless provider.
    Install tomorrow.
