Won't go into the list of them but the 2013 Semi Final he made a huge difference. Just as an example

Got the Man Of The Match gong too, if memory serves.

But lets leave it aside and talk about the game

Mayo will have their spells of dominance in the game and Dublin sometimes dip for periods too, the result will hinge if Mayo can capitalise enough on those periods. i.e. scoring goals

Everything I have read about the game goes along the lines of what do Mayo have to do to win.
All that the pundits are saying is Mayo need to do this and Mayo need to do that.

It's like as if Dublin already have 20 points on the board and its up to Mayo to get to that by scoring goals or pushing up on Cluxton or whatever.

But what about Dublin? What are they going to do to get the 20 points?

Can somebody talk about what Dublin will do in this game or are they just going to get the 20 points because that's what they always do.

I believe they will score many points by kicking it over the bar multiple times. This will be confirmed by a man wearing a large white coat and will wave a white flag.

They may also place the ball beyond where the goalkeeper is positioned. If this happens, the same fella will raise a green flag to confirm such rewards.

I think they may also partake in passing the ball around to players wearing the same coloured jersey as them before attempting such scoring attempts.

So Mayo can win it and so can Dublin. This is as the say now a two horse race. It will be close. Pressure, who is there more pressure on? Mayo or Dublin, Dublin with three in the last five going for two in a row or Mayo who are without one since 51? I still think its Mayo as the expectation is now high given the way the pundits are calling it, they are the "underdogs" who can do it, that is according to most of the experts.

The bottom line is if they both perform to their max Dublin will win it. If Mayo outperform Dublin they will have deserved it.

Hope its a good game and we dont have a sh1t fest in the aftermath on here.

    Absolute trainwreck this thread.
    Mod: Pretty much.
After discussing it with the mod team, we're locking this until Sunday morning thanks to the complete and utter mess that this thread has become. This has meant very little genuine, mature discussion about the game has been possible as people hurl nonsense about.
You can discuss the buildup in the team threads but we'll be keeping a close eye on these and any hint of the same crap that's gone on in this thread will see offenders banned for a week.

Also, anyone who tries to open a new match thread will be banned for a week.

Today they are going for their fourth All Ireland win in six years. A bit of perspective please.

Also that one in a row is better than anything that Mayo have achieved in 65 years.

Best of luck to both teams
Dubs fan but don't mind if Mayo win a good game.
What must it feel like to line out for your county on All-Ireland day :)

Mayo will need to bring an edge that they havent had in the past, I think they'll have to get ugly and dirty but its unlikely anyone (apart from Dublin) would begrudge them that after what's happened to them in finals over the past decade.

If Mayo can get through the first 15 minutes without a Dublin goal I think it would be a huge mental boost and the nerve shackles would release.

    I hope Mayo do it.

Does EVERY single person from Dublin have to shout "Up the Dubs " at opposing Supporters on the way to the game ?
    It's wearing me out :D

This rain is very good for Mayo. I am getting more and more confident that they will steal this from Dublin. I already have a longish odds treble resting on Mayo and doubling up @ 11/4 looks a great option now.

Given its not every year ye get to a final you should make the most of it.

    Its a term of endearment.

Is there a thread for the minor match? Or can we chat about it here?

meh, both teams used to rain. You could refer to the fact it was a wet day V Galway in Castlebar and hence that did not suit Mayo but we all know Mayo beat themselves that day, not the weather..

Dublin play a lot of short ball so the weather wont impact them too much in that regard. It will tire the team that doesnt have the majority of possession though as they are constantly chasing.

Another thing is obviously in inclement conditions fitness comes to the fore and the natural reference point is that Dubs are the fittest in the country but I genuinely think, man to man, Mayo are just as fit if not more.

Whoever gets a break with a few early points or a goal then the weather may play a part with the chasing aspect but I never read too much into it in general as its just a weak excuse at the end of the day. May decrease the quality of the game and handling but both teams should be well used to such conditions by now so I never believe it gives a big advantage to the other.

    Then again...................................

imo the rain might suit mayo better as the game will be not as free flowing and probably more physical and more of a slog fight .I taught dublin were awesome in the semi final but i can not see them playing that well again so it will be tighter then a lot of lads make off

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,101 ✭✭✭Rightwing

Mayo must target cluxton, bully him, and he shall crumble. Then they have a very realistic chance of winning.

I've always loved this GAA logic, well team A have were flying in their last game so they won't be able to repeat that again while team B have been shaky all year so they're peaking now/due a good game/on the up :D

Rain generally suits the more skilful team which in this case is Dublin. Mayo have been poor all year and bar a dramatic improvement in this game or a significant dip in Dublin form I would expect to see Dublin win it comfortably.

Galway throwing away the minor final with poor shooting and poor decision making. Generally dominant in open play

    seems awful short
cant understand how they are not 4/1 at the very least
    best out there 7/2

Can't see past dublin here. The heart would love to see Mayo but the Dubs are unreal.

You are looking at a team that could score 2-2 in a 5 minute spell and that to me points to a win for Dublin.

Joe Brolly just shook his head in disbelief when Micheal Lyster introduced Marty Morrissey as "when the going gets tough,Marty Morrissey gets going"as he handed over to him on Jones's Road.
