T'wouldn't have a name. Twill be an old white cottage with a door just over 5' high and a thatched roof, a leanto shed off to the side with a few drums of Calor gas and a few bags of feed. There'd be no room to put a name over the door and I'll have a Beamish sign up on the wall and because there won't be any other pub on the island it will be pointless giving it a name

It has to be sophisticated sounding enough to attract the upper class, but hard enough to pronounce so to discourage the riff-raff.

For some reason I feel "Porkies" might be a good name for a pub aimed at the After Hours market.

    Another one springs to mind

    "The Firkin"

A firkin being a specific size of small barrel back from the days before aluminium and plastic.

There was a lad down in Limerick running a shebeen which was referred to as 'My Mother's ' thus giving it's boozers a plausible yet vaguely truthful response when phoned by irate partners

A pub near where some friends lived in Devon took such a long time to put up the sign that it became known locally as The Missing Sign, so they decided to call it that when they eventually did put up the sign.

We nicknamed one of the local pubs the boulevard, as in The Boulevard of Broken Dreams. It stuck pretty well, as in I can't believe you ended up in the boulevard last night!

Pub owner also had apartments around the town closw to the pub and rented them out to every heavy drinker and gambler that got kicked out by the wives.

So these lads were handing up the vast majority of their income to the publican between rent and pints and a bit of a gambling operation he had going behind the bar.
