Question: once professional boxers are permitted in the Olympics, won't the corrupt amateur organisations become irrelevant?

    I hope so...

That's the thing. MC called amateur boxing corrupt but I'd be surprised if the professional game isn't much, much worse.

There was a rule change for this Olympics that fights could not be appealed no matter what as far as I know

    What about the CAS?

that was about a case Hickey took against Walsh & RTE about a Prime Time documentary. He obviously reckoned they would cave ni before going to court.

Bloody hell, they don't muck about in Brazil:
Mr Hickey is facing three charges of facilitating ticket touting, formation of a cartel and ambush or illicit marketing.

Detectives in Rio have told RTÉ News that Mr Hickey could face up to seven years in jail, if found guilty of those charges.

Yup touting is super illegal there, he probably should have you know...... checked into that before becoming involved in it and then actually flying to the country he could be arrested in for it

and also the fact most of the events have been under-sold, its not exactly an ideal market for touting

these guys sound like bubbling amateurs

I'm guessing he didn't just get into this in the last 4 years since London. It was probably going on longer in some shape or form. He just ended up in the wrong place though at this point!

Romario (yes *that* Romario) had his card marked years ago, story from October 2012:

Maybe. But think of the profit that may have been made in London where tickets were hard to come by for many events.

That's nuts. Think it's the same in Portugal, is that right?

Jimmy Magee on News Now commentating on Brazil.

I'm sorry, he was a great commentator but he sounds like he is ready for his nap.

Time to call it a day, Jimmy.

Had to laugh when I heard Shane Ross had left Brazil this morning..... Obviously there is no suggestion he was involved in anything untoward but he wasn't taking any chances :)

Right, i think I'm going to have to declare myself officially Olympic'ed out!

I've resorted to the dozen-odd Pointless recordings backed up on my sky box.... it's like going back to an old life :D

I'm sure I'll be recovered by the morning, but will be stuck in Saorviewland for the day :( Hopefully rte pick good stuff to show!

AIBA says Vladimir Nikitin has NOT told them he'll withdraw from his bout with Shakur Stevenson. The AM weigh-in is when he has to decide.

Would really love to see Thomas Barr make the final. Of all the competitors I've seen interviewed he was the one who I would point out to my kids and say, "See that? That is why you should take up sports."

Barr's finish in his semi was stunning. Delighted for him.

Separately:Will GB finish ahead of China in the medal count I wonder? They are ahead on gold count by 19-17.

It will be mind boggling if they do....they didn't even manage this in London :)

Annalise and her parents live on RTE2 now :)

Her mum looks young, more like her older sister

Says she's not sure if she would return for a third Games, she needs to have a good long think about it but will just have a nice rest in the meantime
