Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yellowbelly Great For The Town.

    Lovely drop.

Evil Twin Ashtray Heart. The only smoked beer I've had was Schlenkerla, so I was expecting something closer to that, but this is more lightly smoked which allowed the taste of the beer to come through better imo. Very tasty.

Kinnegar Bucket and Spade, excellent and very drinkable.

Lots and lots of homebrew dunkel. Had a bbq yesterday and nearly depleted my entire stash. Belgian Summer Ale on deck in a few weeks. First brew of the year, hope I'm not too rusty.

    Galway Bay - Acid Mother

Lovely sourness off this with a sharp lime aftertaste. Lovely beer for a sunny afternoon.

YellowBelly - Where Wally (yes, I know..)
    great beer, ..lovely and refreshing

    Founder - Dirty Bastard.
Got this bottle recently, but have reason to suspect it was out of date since late last year, i knew that when buying it....WOW...I like DB in date, but this is way better...need to stock up and put a few away for a year.

    And union - Sunday.
nice pale ale without being anything special

Drinking Buxton's DIPA, Kingmaker. It's fantastic. Huge taste of orange peels to start then it mellows out to a really soft but full bodied apricot. Lots of malt, nice bitterness and the 10.5% alcohol is completely masked. A winner.

Walla Walla from Kinnegar. Really nice. Just a touch of sourness with some lovely spice from the ginger

Any of you visited the Guinness Open Gate Brewery yet?

I presume there's no way of seeing what beers they have on?

    Thread on it here.

Don't think they post their beer list online but you could keep an eye on Untappd check-ins to see what people have recently had there.

Are they fresh? A bar in Derry got them in but I was suspicious and it was too busy to ask to see the best before dates.

Guessing so, round 1 was only a few days old when they arrived. They are appearing on twitter from the usual off license

IPA and Arrogant Bast*rd again, or some new ones?

I saw big cans of Arrogant Bastard nearby recently. Is it worth trying?

I'm enjoying a Caribbean Chocolate Cake this evening.

A couple of people told me (against my better judgement) try McGargles Francis’ Big Bangin’ IPA. "No, this one is really good" they said.

    Lies.

but...it is! It's the only decent McGargles I've had.

It didn't feel good in my mouth, and that's primarily the place I need it to feel good.

Not this discussion again, it IS widely regarded as very nice, hard to find an IPA at such strength with such flavour for that price.

I wasn't involved in any discussion about it, so I'm gonna go ahead and give my two cents on it now. Not for me.

Nah that's fair enough. I was very skeptical when I was first handed it myself. Can't remember the mouthfeel being strange so you may have had a bad bottle.

Very possible. It's happened before with beers. Not ruling out giving it another go at some stage, I guess but I was getting some very musty flavours especially towards the end.

Neither Francis nor Rosie keep well. Even within a couple of months of bottling they start to lose their essential hop character.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

There was definitely something going on that didn't feel right and maybe because I haven't had great experiences with McGargles, I didn't give it the benefit of the doubt. Warrants another go, I'm sure.

Fresh Rosie on tap is also a decent beer.

    Northern Monk - Communion
Nice heavy citrus taste off this, nice level of bitterness without being too bitter. Was looking at the logo on this thinking that they robbed the Opeth logo, did a little google and realized it was a collaboration brew. One of the better band/brewery collaboration brews i've had.

    Stone - Ruination
Big scent off this. Getting a huge grapefruit whack up front with a lovely lingering bitterness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I love Ruination. Does anyone know if McHughes on the Malahide Road have any?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭MonkstownHoop

Starting a 4 day weekend with Go To IPA, I prefer this to their regular IPA tbh, have the other 2 chilling in the fridge along with Little Fawn cans, but they're for a wedding tomorrow.

    Siren - Tschuss
Loving this. Really refreshing. Really forward orange and blueberry scent with strong fresh mint aftertaste. Sound like a horrible combo but its delicious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Son0vagun

All beers start to lost their hoppiness straight away. We have been spoilt with super fresh Francis, that as it losses it's hoppiness we notice, except people only seem to comment when it's McGargles!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

Stone go to IPA is rather delicious. Same for the double but I'd rather the session. Canned on the 13 and 14th of July..

Wasnt impressed with the Stone IPA in Mulligans.

Had a few Full Irish on tap last night, top class!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,748 ✭✭✭✭Lovely Bloke

Had a Stone IPA can there, lovely and fresh tasting still.

Just opened a Púca, White Hag Lemon Sour. Top notch.

2016 Hoptimum - nice but nothing spectacular. Would have prefered a King Maker.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,639 ✭✭✭andekwarhola

Echoing the praise for Stone (Ruination and IPA).

Having a Lagunitas Aunt Sally. Not a style I usually drink but it's enjoyable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 768 ✭✭✭Uncle_moe

Siren Tidal wave, another cracking beer from these guys.
Stone Go To was decent but better session IPAs out there.
Happy Days IPA on tap was quite nice if you're looking for something light.

    Little Fawn in can format.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭MonkstownHoop

    Little Fawn in can format.

Had a few in powerscourt hotel on Friday, brought them myself of course

May not be the the correct place to ask but, can anyone advise what craft beers are currently on offer in Harry Byrne's in Clontarf at the minute if any? Haven't been there in years and will be there Saturday afternoon for a few.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭minterno

Just cracked open a bottle of 'kasteel rouge at 8%, first time I have tried it, its a cherry beer I think, very nice but a bit sweet and just the one would do you, reminds me a little of the Swedish pear cider, a bit too sweet but very nice taste
