Also, you have to have the app open for the steps to count. I made that mistake on the first one. Although my WiFi is a bit jittery so my character moves around slightly when I'm at home relaxing, might add up to a few 100m if you leave the app open?

if you turn your phone upside down, it goes into a standby mode that's easier on the battery, but still vibrates when pokemon appear and also counts your steps.

Have always been afraid that I'd catch something in public toilet and sure enough I caught a Zubat on the way out of the Supervalu jacks today.

The Google Gym on barrow street has been taken over by the nerds.... levels 11, 16 and 22 with some Pokemon at 1000 CP....

Makes my two days at this, 6km traveled, 70 pokemon caught seem a bit fruitless...

I did manage to evolve a Pidgey all the way to a Pidgeot with 379cp.... Is that good?

Depends on your level. I'm level 11 and I have 2 Pidgeots, one at cp592, and one at cp481.

Probably better to save up your Pidgey candy and Pidgeys. Then use a lucky egg for double XP, and evolve them all to Pidgeotto at once since it only costs 12 candy and 0 Stardust. DON'T level them up to Pidgeot since that costs 50 candy I think.
I'm saving my Weedles and Pidgeys for this. Hopefully jump like 3 levels.

Great way to level up quickly all at once, then higher CP Pokemon will start to spawn for you.

I think there are groups that are working actively together and as a result can blast up through the levels and the higher levels reveal higher pokemon. if you're going alone, 2 days and a Pidgeot is pretty good :)

I'm in Newbridge, I picked team red. Team blue have taken over the gyms there and they are all close to 700cp. They must be commuting to some popular area cause the pokemon in Newbridge have pretty small levels.

So much hype about this! Must try give it a go

I just had something strange, was walking by a gym and decided to try take it over. As soon as the battle said go, it would just pop back out to the gym info screen. I was right on the gym so it wasn't a range thing. Tried restart everything as well. Very odd.

I get the lucky egg and doubling your xp but to be honest, I do not want to spend money on this app.

Are you wasting your time if you don't spend money?

Happens with the crappy servers. I've had to leave gyms because o couldn't get to battle them.

Havent got too many high level Pokemon as of yet, nothing above the 1000 mark.

You can occasionally get them at pokestops, or for levelling up, there's no need to spend money.

Also, for anyone on three for their phone:

I'm sure you're all well used to your credit being wiped within 10 minutes of your 30 day offer expiring? You can use your credit on in-game items instead :)

No one in Ireland can spend money at the moment anyway because it's not officially here yet and everyone seems to be doing fine! Think I'd be tempted to buy some incubators because I like hatching eggs but otherwise you can't really pay to win, there's no way to buy candy or dust.

Yes you can! I've used my phone credit twice for pokeballs

So you're saying to not transfer any to the professor? I must have transferred about 50 Pidgeys to get Pidgey candy. I did use 50 to evolve into a Pidgeotto.

    Should I bee keeping them?

When you get to higher levels, even common Pokemon like Pigeys become harder to catch. So you'll be using more pokeballs, meaning it might be needed to drop some cash at the later levels...

They're not exactly hard to find so keep as many as you have candy to evolve? :P

FYI you get premium currency for holding gyms, you can collect it through the shop by clicking the little icon in the top right

You get 10 for taking a gym and then I think 10 for every 20 hours so it will take a while to rack up. Unless you had a friend on a different team near an unused gym. You could just keep swapping in and out

You don't need to spend money, leveling up after 20 is really hard and long and doesn't give as much gain, you can get to 20 in a week or two. It's designed to not let people get too far ahead for new players.

I will never run out pf pokeballs, i throw away hundreds a day.

Can you directly battle a friend, trade Pokemon and are the battles old school turn based?

Something odd happens when I turn my location off via Android, it throws me to a pokestop at the Irish life building on Abbey street and just stays static there, think I'll have to get a few lure modules...
