Lads help needed. Picked up my GTD about ten days ago. It was all great until two days ago but now the small issue of a squeaking drivers seat is annoying me no end. When you sit in it, move around or go around a corner you get the squeak.

Anybody ever have this issue ?

My Gti is 18 months old and has developed the same problem, dealer has not heard of this issue before. Is your dealer in Dublin?

Had it on the VRS. The dealer adjusted the plastic surround on the base of the seat. Might be worth sticking a little bit of cardboard in and around the gaps to pinpoint the area is coming from and then try some padding or adjustment. I didn't see what exactly they did but they said the creaks usually come from that.

VW are offering zero per cent pcp on highline polo, golf, passat until end of July.

They really are chasing volume big time with the amount of offers they now have.
Is this because of diesel gate I wonder?

    It's also available on GTI/ GTD ..

If not diesel gate perhaps Hyundai Tucson in number one spot with 5124 sales this year Golf came 2nd with 3585 ..

I don't think "dieselgate" (is there a more irritating word?) has anything to do with it. There's been a general shift in sales approach from VW that started long before the diesel nonsense - the huge cut in the R's retail price, the significant spec improvements across the board... All happened in 2014.
Look at Hyundai. You can't turn on the TV now without getting bombarded with their Tuscon ads. It's obviously working judging by the sales.

    Golf GTI Clubsport 265HP 2.0TSI 3dr OTRP €44,150

    Golf R 2.0TSI 300HP 3dr OTRP €44,620

Tough decision I'd say if you saw both side by side!

I reckon in years to come it will the Clubsport that people will want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I reckon the r would be a better day to day car.

Probably. It'll have the rarity and "special edition" factor and the GTI badge which has a brand and a following that the "R" badge can't quite match.

Lots of people don't/won't care about AWD or that the R is the better bet in real world driving conditions.

Clubsport will almost certainly have better residuals, as per the Edition 30/Pirelli/Edition 35.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Is the club sport a limited production run?
I thought it was replacing the performance gti for now.
Have to say it looks better than a golf R in my view.
If it's so sought after though why 0 per cent pcp?

so I'm approaching 30K kms (132 GTI) and to report during my ownership I've only had one issue. A cracked thermostat housing at 28K and was repaired under warranty.

Yesterday I went to top up the water washer and I noticed the extended engine cover was very loose and no matter what I did I can't get it secured. A bit of googling later it turns out VW removed this part some time in 2014 due to it coming lose and I'm curious is there any cars on here that have it ? or managed to get it to stay secured !

I had it in my 132 GTI but it's not in my R. I initially assumed it was a cost cutting effort but yes, apparently it's actually due to several reported incidents where they came loose and damaged the rad fans!
The service guys might have broken a clip on your one? Not re-fitting it correctly after a service is probably the main reason they come loose.

Nope out west! Rang him today and neither him or the service manager ever heard of such an issue in any model from what I could gather! I know it could be minor and hopefully very fixable but you know what it's like!

    You bringing it in?

Mine is in at the moment having a mirror and a steering rack replaced, hopefully will get a result with the seat too.

Had it on my 132 Gti until it fell into the fan, heard it before it done damage.

It's not on my current 151 Gti

Did they do away with the plastic engine cover? I noticed when I got my car I had no plastic engine cover.

You should have the cover with the VW logo that's in ondafly's image on the previous page.

    Didn't get one. I should say mine isn't a GTI just a 1.4 TSi

I'm looking at getting a golf gti at the moment but having fierce trouble finding a new one anywhere. Seems there is a nationwide shortage at the moment (so all the dealers are telling me). Every dealer iv visited so far in Dublin is GTI less. Have driven the R and it's seriously tempting me and the lack of gtis is making me impatient especially with a few R s floating around.

Apparently no gti are incoming from Europe right now and there is a facelift incoming towards the end of the year. I'm guessing some club sports are coming in? Anyone hear about this?

Michael Moore in portarlington have one advertised on carzone.
Gti performance pack is discontinued in favour of clubsport but Gti 220 still available to order.
My dealer does not expect Clubsport demo until September.

Cheers for the links. I am looking for manual in the darker colours. Seems I might have to make a trek down to Cork.
I will do a test drive in Frank Keane the weekend and see how I find the GTI compared to the R and GTD.

Could be worthwhile waiting on the clubsport though. There is only a limited number being released right? Seeing as we are often bottom of the barrell in Europe, I am wondering how many we can expect to come in.

Just had a look and that seems to be the problem, the plastic.

Did they fix the problem for good?

Yep, never reared its head afterwards. I didn't believe it when the service guy said its the plastic first as it sounded like metal on metal. I'd say some sticky backed Velcro or something might do the job if you can pinpoint the location.

Thought it was metal too but if I put pressure on and off the plastic it makes the noise. Was it a big fix ?

It was done during a service which took an hour so it's quite simple I'd say.

Does anyone know where the sensor for the dash lighting is situated so I can tape it? Did 1000km in the car over a few days and the constant on/off of the dashboard was pissing me right off. Didn't seem to be tied to the light sensor as the headlights weren't coming on nor the SatNav going into night mode.

on top of the dash I think, near the base of the windscreen, around the centre.

Any particular reason why the park pilot decides not to work the odd time?
