Do you watch much TV? I was using it so little I just got rid of it.

Unfortunately although I was with Sky for years, because I upgraded my broadband to fibre last year it locked me into another contract - so I basically had to pay 5 months worth of a Sky subscription with no TV to watch it on.

Yes there’s no doubt it’s made in China once you load up a few of the included apps, or play a few of the included roms. But don’t rely on the default emulators, they’re old or just not the best. Grab the latest from the PlayStore(latest Reicast runs the DC stuff better). And I prefer to support the guys making good emulators by purchasing rather than getting by dodge means.
By the way, a 128GB MicroSDXC works fine in the GPD XD, in case you were wondering.

Also, the screen while only 1280x720 is fantastic and has some of the best and most accurate colour reproduction I’ve seen in anything even near this price point.

I think that refers to using the N8 Nes cart in a Famicom via an adapter, and the N8 Famicom Cart in an NES, via an adapter.

The N8 can play FDS games(and NES games by the way) fine on a Famicom without the disk system as it emulates the RAM that’s used in the Disk System to load the floppy games onto(I do it all the time). So I’m guessing it will also work on the NES, but don’t have an NES N8 to test.

With a bit of hackery via import adapters (and a top loader) you can use an actual disk system with a NES - as the N8 just emulates the hardware then I'd imagine it'd work alright?

You thinking about picking one up?

Yeah the N8 will emulate the FDS just fine, I'm unsure about whether the NES can understand those signals though (I know the NES cart will work in a Fami via an adapter, but that's still a Fami understanding it, I'm wondering if an NES will be able to understand what the N8 is feeding it)

Yeah eventually, I'll still keep my carts, but once I've bought all the carts I actually want for the NES...I'll just use an N8 for anything after that (fan translations, fami games, expensive games, etc)

My point being that if a NES can understand the signal coming from an actual Famicom Disk System and run actual FDS games, then surely an emulated one would be interpreted identically?

I don't think I've ever actually played any FDS games properly with my N8/Famicom - must give it a go! Mainly just gets used for all my NES stuff at the moment as it's all in storage.

Ah, I get you now. Yeah, by that logic, it should certainly work. I was all set to buy an AV Famicom, having sold my Twin Fami...but I stopped in my tracks to think, "Do I actually need a Famicom at all?"...and the answer is, no. The NES does everything I want it to do, it's a US 60Hz model, new 72 pin connector in it, AV output, detachable controllers, there's nothing exclusive for the Fami that I really need (or that wouldn't justify buying a Fami for), and there's virtually no FDS games I'm overly interested in.

So I figured I'd just finish off my NES wanted list, & let the N8 take care of any oddities etc thereafter.

Well I know people are plugging the Fami N8 into a NES via adaptors and it works fine. But there's not a lot of info on FDS games running. I mean I'd say it works fine, it makes sense that it would, but without seeing proof somewhere... I dunno

Indeed, but below it also states this:

To me, my understanding is that the NES N8 will play FDS games.
I'll have a look at home for a Fami to NES adaptor and if I have one I'll try my Fami N8 in my NES.

If the NES couldn't play FDS games via the N8 I'm sure it would have popped up on a lot more forums(krikzz forum especially) by now. I mean its be out for a long time.
From what I see the only issue people have with the NES/N8 and famicom compatibility is the lack of expanded sound without modification.

It's meant to be superb and only got fan translated recently. It uses the link to the past engine and had a lot of Zelda staff work on it including eiji aonuma

It being a Saturday night, a 'wiki wormhole' meant I inevitably ended up on the Wikipedia page for Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. I felt it necessary to post a sample of the plot synopsis because I didn't really know the weird series about the dolphin got quite as weird as it did.

With Intelligence and Ambition both sent back, history changed. Dolphins became aggressive creatures and forced humans from the seas, never to return. They built their own independent society under the waves, and some above them; this level set featured the Hanging Waters as an homage to the Skyway from Tides of Time. The dolphins seen in this section of the game were divided into two subtypes; the Clan dolphins were militaristic orange-and-white (lower ranking) or black-and-white (higher ranking) creatures who lorded over the green Outcasts. Both subtypes looked down upon whales; the Clan, for instance, used a pair of captured humpback whales as living power generators for their Hanging Waters.

Just back from Las Vegas and Vancouver.

Went to the pinball hall of fame and its definitly worth the trip, just bring some hand sanitizer with you.

Went to gamedeals in Vancouver...they had about 6 NES games and very little selection. I was so dispointed with the shop, nice guys in there and I managed to get a complete mint Skate or Die and Cliffhanger on the sega CD. I had to buy something because I spend 40 mins getting there.

I was staying accross the road from a really cool arcade/porno theatre. Tons of pins and cabs, I have pictures, I'll upload them in a bit

What did you think of the people around Vancouver?
I've been thinking of moving there or at least visiting there a long while now.

Really nice city, mostly chinese over there now because of that whole visa thing but generally I thought the people were really nice. You could spot the american tourists about a mile away which was nice

. As a city its 10/10, easy to get around and so much to do. We went up to grouse mountain which was 20mins on a bus from the north side of the city.

Personally if i hd a choice, I would move there tomorrow. Butchers are on serious money over there at the moment for some reason. But I dont really have the oppertunity so I cant
