Season 6 Episode 8 "No One" - "Book readers"

    Pre empting the upcoming episode post by including some highlights from the charter. I'll try to set up each episode in advance each week; thread will be unlocked on Sunday evening.

    This is ONLY about the specific episode! No information from any interviews etc. are allowed to be posted but book related information is allowed as well as the lore from the DVDs. Anything relating to interviews can be posted with a spoiler tag.


    In addition anyone picking up 3 yellow cards will be banned from the forum for the current season; in case of serious enough transgressions the ban may come earlier than 3 cards

    Thread will be unlocked on Sunday evening.

    Anyone recognise YouTube impressionist Dr Steve Love making a cameo in this? From doing Game of Thrones impressions in his bedroom to having a small part on the show, nice!

    The episode 9 preview is incredible.

    I've probably never been more excited about anything on TV ever.

    Arya's stomach injuries were very inconsistent weren't they?
    She flinched and held her gut getting up from the bed to check on Lady Crane.
    But she was able to leap out a window and run 2 miles through the streets with no problem.
    Then she could barely walk through the last few alley ways
    Then the fight with the Waif we didn't get to see.... Then I suppose, neither did she, that was the point.
    Then still bleeding heavily goes to the HoBaW... Declared herself a Stark and was able to walk out with purpose with no sign of injury.

    All that said, I still enjoyed the episode. The Hound stole the show again.

    Am I the only one pissed off with Arya's scenes in this episode? I mean first off she survives being stabbed a couple of times in the belly and miraculously resists infection of sort after diving into a filthy canal.

    But jumping out of second story windows and doing a high speed chase a couple of days after getting stitched up? Just all too easy...I mean I know it's only a TV show but that's plain ridiculous

    So trial by combat is not allowed anymore, Cleganebowl has been postponed at least. Cerseis transformation into the mad king is complete.
    Arya looks for help from someone familiar (in a city where people can change their fúckin faces) and trusts her new bff enough to drink milk of the poppy, all the while still suffering from getting a fairly serious stabbing.
    The last of the badass old school warriors dies off-screen. R.I.P. Blackfish...
    Beric Dondarrion is alive. It's good to see the Brotherhood Without Banners in their post Red Wedding nihilistic fashion. "War makes monsters of us all". At least there is some sort of order. If Lady Stoneheart appears it's going to seem way too late.
    Daenerys came back in the nick of time. Her story was unbearably slow for so long and now there's not enough time to make sense of it.
    And Arya finally leaves the House of Black and White as Arya Stark. Good to see.
    The Hound and The Brotherhood made this episode, Bronn really does rob every scene he's in. The rest of the episode was okay but the pieces are in motion, there's only two episodes left and a LOT of story to get through..

    I can't believe how much they're wasting Tyrion. One of the best characters portrayed by one of the best actors in the series and all they do is have him in awkward filler scenes with Misendei and Grey Worm.

    I'm pretty sure Arya slid under a fruit cart directly on her stomach. Her injuries were laughably inconsistent but can't wait to see what happens with her now.

    Dany drops in to say hello while her city is being destroyed, Drogon flies away while her back is turned. Awesome, I'm sure he'll be right back.

    (I actually really enjoyed the episode but needed to get that frustration out!)

    I assumed Drogon was going to take care of those ships.

    What's very annoying about this episode is Arya was actually just being an idiot last week. No Jaqen bait and switch, just Arya being a dope strolling around town defenceless while a face-changing assassin was after her.

    Enjoyed that, the Arya stuff was a bit messed alright but pretty decent filler episode before the battle of the bastards which looks amazing. Bron needs more screen time, literally makes me laugh everything he's on same with the Hound.

    I wonder was Varys aware of what was happening with the masters coming back, he seemed to be unhappy with the truce and then is off to Westeros to gather some support for Dany.

    I think the Jamie/Edmure scene was the best bit of writing we've seen in a long time. Good acting by Edmure as well.

    Wow...that was a big steaming pile of ****e. They had so many options with what the last episode meant for Arya but no, everything was exactly as it seemed. A Terminator style chase? Not very Faceless Men of the waif to be honest.

    What was with the skipping of fight scenes? "Oh yeah, that guy? Dead. That other guy? Dead.".


    Thoros and Dondarrion back and talking about going north? Bored of it. At least with Dondarrion back we can finally nail the Lady Stoneheart coffin shut.

    Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm drinking and sharing jokes? What the actual **** was that about?!

    I enjoyed it. But I could tear it to pieces if I thought about it. Most annoying thing is that over the last week, fans have come up with some amazing theories regarding Ayra, but the writers just went with the obvious yet unrealistic option. And the Blackfishs death is just another cast cull, slim lining the story for the last couple of seasons.

    I don't understand the purpose of Blackfish retaking Riverrun. Was it all purely to allow Jamie and Brienne to meet up again?

    In books, Blackfish was in Riverrun the whole time and not at red wedding. When Riverrun is surrendered, he escapes and is presumably preparing to be a bad bastard somewhere about the place. In the show, he was needlessly at the Red Wedding, recaptured Riverrun off screen and then loses it again and dies. Pointless and wasteful use of a great character.

    Brienne is on the way out of the Riverlands, having accomplished sweet **** all.

    The Jaime Edmure scene was strong, nearly everything else was poor. There were so many exciting directions they could have taken the Arya Waif battle, it's hard to think of a worse option than the chosen one. The Tyrion banter scene was painful (and almost identical to one we already had to endure) and the Blackfish departing offscreen totally underwhelming.

    The disappointing thing for me is that a lot of the fan theories are so much more interesting than the choices made by the writers; I constantly overestimate them and they rarely fail to disappoint.

    - Well I guess we can safely say that there's going to be no Lady Stoneheart then. I'm not at all disappointed to see Beric but considering only one of the two can be "alive" then it's not happening.

    - I can understand Arya leading the Waif back to that secluded, darkened room. Makes perfect sense. However it was quite a rigmarole she went through wasn't it that didn't really require risking her death and death of others? And Jaqen is happy to let her leave?

    - The Blackfish was a bit of a letdown. What happens the Tully's now?

    - Is Varys heading back to Westeros for a little tactical murdering? What a silly sod he'll think when he sails past all those Greyjoy ships.

    - Cersei/Qyburn rumours. Whatever would those be?

    - The Riverlands/Hound Country is a refreshing change of scene though. it's nice to see some green and trees and rivers :pac:

    It's much better than Season 5 though.

    It was ok as episodes go.

    Bit too much filler when there were so many awesome scenes that could have been used.
    Blackfish fight
    Arya fight
    Drogon burning the fleet

    All overlooked so we could have some jokes and more exposition.

    Best line goes to the hound "Bigger girls than you have tried to kill me"

    Thought it was a painfully average episode, similar to the last two episodes.
    It's disappointing, as when they get stuff right, GOT is excellent television

    Why kill off the Blackfish here? Even if he escaped on his own, and traveled North, he could have missed the battle next week, but arrived in the future to help.

    The Arya stuff was hot and cold. I think all the theories people had surrounding the stabbing last week were very far-fetched, and think her surviving, while a bit of a leap in terms of realism, was a better choice.
    I did laugh to myself when the Waif was walking through the arch, and we saw the man that many people thought was Syrio. He couldn't be more unlike him in the end.
    I also liked that Arya put out the candle to fight the waif. That made a lot of sense

    Finally, surely the writers watch these episodes, and get bored by Mereen. They can't seriously watch it, and think that this is excellent television.
    What a waste of Tyrion and Vary's. They might be tied up in where they are, but surely they can write better scenes for them. It's almost as if they know the scenes are poor, and think, "You know what will make this better? Boats that swing fire in high circles"

    Load of bollocks.

    Arya's entire Faceless Men storyline just pointless.

    How many female characters do we have now that are basically invincible? It was laughable the way she survived that stabbing and then was able to defeat the waif. Jumping out windows and falling down steps? What a crock.

    The rest of the episode was crap too.

    Apart from the Hound. But no Cleganebowl?

    I think the Cersei Qyburn thing is to do with Daenerys. I think Cersei is going to side with Dany.

    As for Lady Stoneheart - she could yet make an appearance if Beric dies in the next few episodes.

    Brienne does the same thing in the books, I.e nothing. Her story is more to show Riverlands after the war in the books.

    Blackfish could have fought in the North. Though I guess him and Rickon dying next week would be tough to take.

    Dany was hilarious arriving at the end.

    Enjoyed the Hound literally pissing on Lady Stoneheart.

    I thought Jamie would start winking at the camera..."Cersei would burn a city!"

    This show...throw out your theories. What you see is what you get!
