Both of us have the grey one.

So I suppose it depends how u use it.

Mine has a scratch on the back, think it's from keys in pocket, and a few very small barely noticeable scuff marks. Dropped it once...... Luckily no damage.
Have a cheap case now to give it some protection till the ice view case becomes available. Asked in 3 shop this morning but they didn't even know what it is. They had no cases at all for HTC 10!

Anyone know if they got the sharp screen or other one (can't think of the make).
But big thread on reddit and android central about how it's pot luck if you get the screen with this awful pink tinge to it.

I have sharp. It's great IMO.

Bigger issue than pink tint (which goes fairly quickly) is visibility outdoors. From what I've read, Tianma screen is worse with polarised sunglasses.

Guys, is there a setting to insert an automatic space after word selection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,729 ✭✭✭Bluefoam

Yes, it's in the keyboard options

Thanks. I don't wear sunglasses so guess I would be ok with either screen. Any backlight bleed issues ?

Also, I see they are 670 on Prepay with three.ie. So an 80 euro saving over buying direct from HTC Ireland. Can it easily be unlocked to take any network sim ? I usually use sim-unlock and they don't specify network, just database

Last question - are the included earphones decent. Think I remember reading about how HTC were going to include good quality earphones on the european models. Thanks.

Picked up the HTC10 today in carbon grey. Just charging it now. Have sold the S7 which came back from repair.

As expected no-one has cases for the 10. Looking for soft tpu case rather than a hardshell poly carbonate.

Thinking of this generic clear cpu one :
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/EasyAcc-Crystal-Transparent-Protector-Shockproof/dp/B01BRD1WXW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465752611&sr=1-4&keywords=HTC+10+tpu

Or for more protection the more expensive spigen neo hybrid crystal which is also a clear soft tpu with a hard plastic outside shell
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Hybrid-Crystal-PREMIUM-Premium/dp/B01DAN1JDA/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465752677&sr=1-6&keywords=HTC+10+spigen

Another option is a fit bag. Great to be able to use the phone as intended with no case and store it when not in use. Though a pain probably taking it out every time you get a call.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/fitBAG-tailored-Alcantara-integrated-MicroFibre/dp/B01BOYAMO4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465752933&sr=1-2&keywords=HTC+10+fitbag

    Any recommendations ?

Watch out for superfluous cutouts on the tops of cases for the IR-blaster-that-wasn't. Any reviews of the Spigens have reported them so far, although I'm sure they'll correct that in future production runs. The pictures on the EasyAcc case you linked actually show the cutout.

I'm using a SLEO TPU for now, actually got a refund due to the superfluous cut-out. I'm waiting on delivery of this - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/IMAK-Cowboy-Ultra-Thin-Frosted-Matte-Hard-Back-Cover-Case-For-HTC-10-One-M10-/201567492886?var=&hash=item2eee5bdb16:m:mtXIwxERS1TUJUByARpsi9g Who knows whether it'll ever arrive!

I have my eye on this, Diztronic TPU - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/112007226961

Cheers. I've used Diztronic TPU in the past and found the back attracted a lot of finger grease marks and the camera cutout on the back was a little loose fitting and allowed grit in (on iPhone 6, galaxy s6). Returned both to amazon. The one I had for my M9 actually scratched the edges slightly too as it was such a tight fit when removing it.

I like the Spigen rugged armour. Had one on the S6. Not sure I like how they have glossed up the fake carbon fibre decals.

Will likely not use the phone till I have a case. LOL.

+ 1, easily the best earphones I've ever gotten bundled with any device.

Considering i commute by bus or train I just want something decent. Don't want to be lugging my on ear's around every day. I found the ear pods on the S7 atrocious and the volume output from the headphone jack wasn't great even when I swapped over to low impedance cans. I believe the HTC 10 is in another league and considering I listen 3 hours+ every day, I am looking forward to it.

In relation to the cutouts on the top of the spigen cases, from what I have seen on amazon.com reviews, spigen have started fixing this issue, so might take a punt on the net hybrid crystal.

Incidentally does anyone know what the micro-sd card speed spec is on the H10. The S7 didn't support UHS-II U3, (I was the limit) but even on cards like the new Samsung Pro's which are rated for 95 MB/S read/write, I never even got half that. So the phone wasn't even support UHS-I to it max potential. Only mattered for 4K video I suppose.

Finally - haven't tried another sim yet, but are the Three HTC 10's locked to Three and has anyone unlocked one yet ?

I've asked that a few times here. They're locked to Three and the only person who said they got it unlocked was through Three. Nobody has confirmed any other method of unlocking.

Thanks. I will try these guys this evening and report back. Less than a tenner. Always had good luck with them.

    Just ordered...will see what happens.

<update> Sim-unlock just came back by email. Can't be unlocked :( So they will do a refund. Three.ie will unlock if I top up and spent 130 euro though.

Sure with that you could have just bought straight from htc, 3 are snakes.

I am impatient and there was an 80 euro saving buying from Three over HTC Ireland. Also, I opened the thing in store to check for any potential cosmetic damage. Has happened before out of the box (not with HTC though) and impossible to prove it was like that from day1 unless you buy in store.

Problem now is I have to spend 130 euro top up to get an unlock code. I guess I will go payg for now.

Out of curiosity a family member is with Three bill pay but still within their contracts minimum term. Do you think if they asked Three for an unlock code they would oblige if they explained they were using this phone with their bill pay sim and paid full whack in store on prepay ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,518 ✭✭✭micks_address

I asked three if they would unlock as I need to use my phone in the US for work when i travel and usually use a US sim.. they said i'd have to basically pay the whole cost of the contract up front... then they would apply that as credit to my account and give me th elock code.... expensive...

Anyone tried 'sunshine' for unlocking? Think i used that with m8

    Cheers,
    Mick

Well at the end of the day, they got an exclusivity deal on the 10......part of that is surely that people use their network? Don't know what the problem is with them enforcing that.

As you say, you could just buy direct through HTC, or elsewhere.

FWIW, I bought my M8 from Three in Newry, and the guys there told me that if it was sim unlocked, and if not I could just call a number and they would unlock for free. They knew I was living down in Dublin, and would be popping another SIM straight in it.

Guess you just need to do your research before buying.

Yes they seem like decent enough earphones. But for me its basically just another set for the drawer in the bedside locker.

I would much rather they give you a discount on the phone and no earphones in the box. Or they could give you a decent cover for your phone instead.

For the one time in a blue moon where I am getting the bus into work this morning I just grabbed the headphones and while I was waiting for the big green bus to arrive..... (are they still green, I didn't look at the colour when I got on it :D) I went to stick on the radio. So here I am now sitting in silence looking out the window at the passing cars with them drivers all looking so smug listening to the old fashioned wireless, while I just discovered the most modern and expensive phone doesn't even have a FM radio built in.

That's a pretty ****ty oversight IMO. I can't even download one. And before anyone says anything, I'm talking about fm radio, not internet.

To be fair, I think this is the first HTC flagship that hasn't had it. Pretty sure Sammy got rid of it a good while back?

Does anyone use that HTC touchpal keyboard. The store where you can download custom stuff I find very laggy.
Also, wondering what's the point of allowing you an option to change the Dialer colour when there is nothing to choose from ?

Why would you need an FM radio ? Surely you can stream radio from many of the free apps over wifi or data. Phones haven't had FM radios in years. I thought FM radios were a throwback to when streaming was just starting to take off. Samsung don't do it, Apple don't do it, although I see some of the LG's still have it.

Have a couple of light scratches on my screen that you can see in certain light that are doing my head in. Never should have moved away from the flip case and I shall be going back now.

Is the official flip case available anywhere?

    Because I want one.

I don't want to use my data streaming stuff, intermittent breaks and lagging behind. Played RTE player earlier on and it was crap, kept breaking up.

Any phone I've ever had, has always had fm. Why bother giving me free earphones if they don't give me a radio to use them on?

Fair enough. Never had problem with steaming radio. Give Irish Radio Player or Tune In Radio a try. RTE player is crap.

But to answer your question, they give you free earphones so you can consume media e.g. netflix, spotify, plex etc.. plus they made a noise about the amp/dac being very good on this phone so gave decent headphones to experience it with. A pity they didn't include a radio as it was in the M9. Actually had an M9 and didn't even realise.

On it's last legs though. Don't expect many brands will carry it next year.
