If you had limited the phone to 3g only, you might have got faster speeds with a stronger 3g connection.

I tried. It's still pants. Even in the city centre, the most I got was around 30Mb/s. Limerick and Cork. A mile outside and it drops to 7/8Mb/s and sometimes 3g drops off altogether.

VF on the other hand gives me about 130Mb/s-160Mb/s in the city centre and worst case where I live is around 60Mb/s.

Perhaps some people are lucky and getting good speeds where they live or work, but I do see a lot of complaints on the Ask Three forum. Here is one thread going on for a while. There are plenty of others and a high level of dissatisfaction for the speeds people are getting with 4G. http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057511941/17

Even the Three agent in the shop said the network is oversubscribed and it will be 6 months plus before it's up to scratch nationwide. It was always my intention to unlock the phone and go to VF and I knew the Three network wasn't so hot where I live. I just didn't do my research on the difficulty / cost involved in unlocking and assumed it would be simple. My fault. In hindsight I should have bought directly from HTC. Impatience and the potential 80 euro saving buying from Three on prepaid got the better of me.

Well, you made the right decision then with speed differences like that.
Pity though, cos the only thing 3 have going for them IMO is the free data, and boy do I take advantage of it :D

Yeah, the free data is excellent. Up to 60GB I believe before they consider intervening :) And with VF I only have 17GB which thankfully is enough for me. Am usually about 5gb under every month in fact. But I may as well have dialup with the Three speeds I am getting.

    You're laughing so :)

When 3 is bad, it can be really frustrating!

Should have the unlock code from Three within 2 working days. Hopefully someone will buy the Three sim with 130 euro credit :D

Not sure about the battery on the 10. At full charge at 9am and by 8pm was at around 17%. I got around 5 hours screen on time I reckon today.
Mostly browsing, social media, texts. No calls, youtube, spotify or games.

    Seriously considering this https://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerCore-Qualcomm-Portable-Backwards-Compatible/dp/B01D0WDWL8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1466112365&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+battery+quick+charge+3

and one of these as nice to have a spare cable anyway (plus it's got the 56ohm resistor) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerLine-Resistor-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B01A6F3WHG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1466112392&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+usb+c

From what I have read the usb-c portable batteries will NOT work with the htc 10 at enhanced speeds. You need one that supports quick charge 3.0.
And the battery I linked to actually comes with a micro usb to usb cable so you can use quick charge 3 to charge it up from the htc mains charger.

It just seems a bit pricey.

I never realised they done powerbanks that were fast charge compatible.
    That's pretty cool!

Works out at just over 50 for the bank and the cable.
It's a bit of an investment, sure. But if you need it, there's always a way you can justify shelling out for it :pac:

Hope someone buys that SIM off you :D

If they do I will buy the quick charger battery :)

Does anyone have any information whether Vodafone will be stocking the HTC 10? I know Three have exclusivity until 1st July but wondering if the rumours that Vodafone won't stock it are true?

They have no plans to carry any HTC devices any more, afaik.

In Germany, there is some patent dispute going on that involves HTC and Vodafone, which is the reason they've given for them not carrying it. Definitely a strange one.

I'm liking the htc10 but what happened to the internet browser (not chrome) gallery and file manager?

Also I'm certain sunlight I notice dark blue vertical lines down the screen?

HTC file manager should be available on the play store. I think internet is discontinued, at least for latest HTC devices.

Those blue lines are to do with the digitizer on the Sharp panel, I believe. The Tianma panel, which other 10's have, doesn't seem to have those lines. I think the Sharp panel is the better one overall, though.

Extremely helpful response. Thanks very much :)

So is there 2 different versions of the 10?

No, but as with many devices, parts are sourced from different manufacturers. HTC often have more than one screen provider.

You can check which one you have by downloading DevCheck and checking under hardware > graphics > panel.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.devcheck

It doesn't matter too much, though. Both panels seem very good.

Jeez that's mad. I would have thought that once a product is made, all parts of every device should be exactly the same. Fair enough using different suppliers, but surely the parts should be identical down to the last spec.

    Sharp Panel on mine.

haven't noticed any blue lines though.... yet!!!lol

Never been the case. Apple source different parts. Sony source different parts. Even pc manufacturers like Dell will source different parts i.e. memory modules, motherboard manufacturers, gpu manufacturers, case manufacturers. The spec is always the same, though there may be slightly different characteristics observed. The most obvious recently was the SOC in the iPhone 6s, where the Samsung chip was seen to have generally inferior battery life to the same SOC produced by TMC. But the spec regarding speed and performance as the same.

Should have my HTC 10 unlock code from Three very soon. They said within 3 working days.

Next I would like to get rid of the Three startup screen and also Three mobile services. Will unlocking the boot loader and rooting allow me to do this.
And what would be a good guide ?

    Found this on
    http://htc10root.com/2016/05/15/how-to-root-htc-10/

Also, once rooted, whats the best way to install OTA updates ?

By the way, does anyone know when VF are getting the HTC10.
I was thinking if I don't root, and just unlock from Three and use my VF sim then I won't ever get any OTA updates ?

I couldn't swear to this, but sim-unlocking shouldn't interfere with OTA updates. If 3 were to just give you an unlock code, that wouldn't stop OTA updates, and the code you get from someone on eBay is no different to one from a network.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. Hopefully I get my code today from 3.

Loving the 10. Only thing I miss compared with the S7 are not being able to filter quick setting toggles. Now I have to scroll down through settings or use a widget if I want to turn on power saving mode. On the S7 you could filter what quick settings are displayed. Probably a touch wiz thing.

Settled on the Spigen rugged armour case in the end from Amazon. Around 11 .

Yeah, OTA's should be based on Carrier ID, which won't change if you unlock.

Regarding the quick settings, HTC have gone more stock Android, so you're meant to be able to long press on the settings icon when your pulldown is down, then you active SystemUI Tuner in the Settings menu. That should allow you to customise your toggles (although last time I checked on stock, it was buggy).

Personally, I use custom ROMs for all these features and more.

Alas, it looks like HTC have disabled the system UI tuner on Marshmallow.

Latest update from 3 is they have asked HTC for the unlock code on Friday and are waiting for them to come back to them :(

Any issues with rooting and flashing the HTC 10 ? Think I am going to go this way though not sure what rom I would like to use.

Also, when a new OTA comes out, do you wait for an updated rom as I assume you can no longer get OTA updates after you flash.

Silliest of question here but for those who have the 10, can the vibration notification be disabled without disabling the sound on the device?

It sounds ridiculous but it bugs the **** out of me with my M8, I have to go into each app individually and disable vibration when the option is available (not always). It sounds silly but having my phone constantly vibrating on the table because group chat is going mental is a nuisance.

Also how does the new camera react to light? I go to a lot of concerts and like to take a few snaps the M8's over exposure was a nightmare to say the least.

ROMs usually update before ota, but sometimes you need matching firmware. If you're s-off, you can flash firmware as well, but if you're not, you have to return to stock and take the update (which includes firmware) before unlocking bootloader and rooting again.

    Clear as mud :D

This guy did soff after he was rooted, and had to go back and re-root.

So wouldn't the best order be : unlock boot loader with htc, soff, then root.

About a week ago my phone suddenly crashed and rebooted, started up as normal. Since that happened there has been a huge improvement in my battery life. Before the crash my battery would be at 20% or less by 10pm. Now it's at 50% at 10pm. Nothing else has changed.
