    So was in London for four days ( serious spot for car spotting) and whilst I was away decided to treat the car to a full valet arrived back to this, this evening :).

    Only thing that irritated me was the whole car was spotless but they never bothered doing the exhaust pipe so with the rest the car immaculate it really stood out.

    What happened to the bm?

    The insurance on it was insane. €233 per month on third party (without fire & theft)

    Are you saying nobody needs insurance or nobody needs to stick with a car with high insurance?

    Insurance? Pfft who needs it. :D

    Seriously though, I actually think we should adapt a AU or NZ model for car insurance. Easier for people to get started.

    Nobody needs to stick with high insurance, doesn't matter about the car, what im trying to get at is, if you can afford it, and you love the car, by all means go for it, but if it's just a run about or whatever, then don't.

    Just my way of seeing things, like i've been trying to get insured on a 2.3 saab 9-5 aero, I cannot for the life of me get past the name of the car on the phone let alone get a quote, and the ones i do get are in the region of 2/3k but if i had that I'd glady do it because i love those cars, but if it was on my astra I'd get a bus.

    Easier full stop
    No need for checkpoints etc

    I think we should put tax and 3rd party insurance on fuel. Work with the UK so that they do the same in the north.

    Myself and another lad from Boards were out for a spin during the summer, it got foggy and wet so we were heading down from the Dublin mountains. Hit a slippy patch and my brakes locked up on a bend... Right across the road I go, so a Tarmac bank and through a fence.
    Thankfully there was no one injured, a bit stiff the next day though.

    Well the lads have filled you in, expect I've probably gotten fatter.
    I used to spend a lot of my free time during the week walking in the mountains, no car to get up there right now though. :(

    The MX5 is sitting in wait or some much needed insurance. :)

    Recently added another bimmer to the collection.

    A little hint.

    Needs some tidying up. But this concludes a 4 year hunt.

    i = petrol
    x= 4wd
    E34

    One of the rarer BMWs around. and it's a touring. Nice find Marlow!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭bear1

    How much was that picked up for? If I can ask :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,555 ✭✭✭✭Marlow

    As CM pointed out, it's 4WD.

    BMW was very late to the 4WD game. Before the X5, which was launched in '99, there was the E30 325iX and the E34 525iX. No other engines could be got and the 525iX was only build approx 9000 times.

    Around 800 of these are RHD.

    That's the reason, why you don't see them on the road often. I've been trying to buy one for 4 years, on and off. But the one above, I specificly missed out on 3 years ago, when it came for sale in London. So when it dropped to a feasable price, I couldn't let it go again.

    It has the usual E34 Touring electrical issues, needs a refresh of the bodywork and is plain standard at the moment. But I'll get to that over time.

    I'll get some more pictures over the days.

    Such a cool car, I have a hankering for an estate now!

    Is it RHD Marlow?

    DIdn't BMW only sell the ix's on the continent and only in LHD for years?

    Said in his post that "Around 800 of these are RHD".

    I'm assuming his is but he hasn't specifically stated that it is.

    Exactly, hence why I asked if his was RHD or not.
