They just don't make 'em like they used too.

Too much electronics shíte in cars now have made them completely dull and uninteresting to drive.

Funny you should post this, because I saw a red one here in Dublin a few days ago, again with Irish plates. Haven't seen one in YEARS prior to that.

Scimitar GTE spotted in Conquer Hill, Clontarf on Sunday. Solid looking car, paintwork poor though. Nice Interior.

The government scrappage scheme killed a lot of them (and other perfectly good cars)

That reminds me that I haven't seen a Senator for a while either.

I think most of them were gone before the scrappage schemes were introduced.

That reminds me that I haven't seen a Senator for a while either.

There was a Senator B at the Terenure show last year, first one I see in a long time. Haven't seen a Senator A in a VERY long time (they were a Monza with a boot, weren't they?)

I don't think I know the difference between an A and a B. I can only recall the one with the dodgy looking front grill. A neighbour of mine had one up to about 1998.

It must have been a 'B' then but the grill was much worse than that!

The Senator A had a grille full of "squares" too I thought? I saw a polish one the other day actually in immaculate condition. Rotten brown colour though.

The Senator was just a high spec version of the Rekord/Omega?

posted this in the HWIST thread in main forum. Thought you guys might like them too.

Was in Kinsale yesterday saw these beauties. There were loads of XJS including Lynx special editions, S-Types, XJ6s etc. too, didn't bother snapping those. You can see in the background loads of other Jags that I didn't get to snap either. The two modern ones here were both XKRs. There others that were still out and about that we spotted when we left the hotel.
iPhone pictures so quality not 100%. Enjoy!

There was a load of mercs there when I was parking the car but by the time I got back around the show they had left. They looked nice though.

Curious as to why it's LHD....

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Possibly becaue it was mainly used in countries where LHD was the setup?Strange choice of car for an army car,or is it a mockup?

They were used by British forces in East Germany during the cold war as a reconnaissance vehicle.

Ferguson 4WD, a winch, infrared driving lamps and a few other bits and bobs were thrown in.

That one in the picture above is a replica some French guy made.

    Do a Google on BRIXMIS...

Brilliant to see 197 ZH is still going, my dad was a patrol for the AA from 1976 to the 1990s and he recorded every car he had broken down, it was easier for him to locate the car by registration when given poor locations/directions and that Variant was listed in his diaries as one he worked on (must find out what year.

    Regards
    Darren
