Can't say whose the worst but the worst I have dealt with recently is Dell, I hate getting pissed off and having to raise my voice on the phone to people with **** customer service Jobs but it was the only way to get anything done!

I'd have to agree with Keano! Dell are particularly sh*t. I even sent them a complaint which they say, on their web site, they answer within 24hrs. That was 18 months ago and still nothing from them!

I think Esat BT or BT as they call themselves now are the worst I've had to deal with. Their accounts deparment is completely useless too which doesn't help matters.

Apple is awfull as well.. but only really when they transfer your call over to an Indian call centre. They can't understand my accent, and I can't understand theirs... it's completely useless.

Sky are one of the best I have dealt with, but all their call centres are based in the UK.

Me:"I have a nokia N-gage it supports MMS I just need it set up"
Meteor:" grunt grunt click tongue really loud...how old is the phone?"
Me:"I've had it for about a year now"
Meteor:"...groan...sigh...No I need to know if its the old N gage or the other one"
    Me:"You mean the QD?"
    Meteor:"Yeah whatever"

    Dell

    - i'll never spend that few hundred euro extra again for their so-called international next business day service - rang them up a few times with problems and they always made up some excuse not to fix my laptop...

McDonalds, or any random fast food place.

    I'm sorry but

    a) Learn English
    b) Learn Manners

FFS its not like there are no proper english speaking/understanding people out there.....either learn the language or go away. Full time jobs should only go to people who can speak the main language of the country they are in (be it english, german, french etc). I know some people learn it and pick it up, and fair play, you deserve a job, but the next big stumbling block is manners.

Why should anyone have to take attitude and insults in a foreign language form some snotty cow with bad shoes who's just not bothered serving you? If you don't like public service, get the heck out of it. Its people like that who really help with the development of racism. Argh....stupid cow...a job in burger king in waterford is not all that great sweetheart...lose your attitude, if I was your boss I'd fire your ignorant ass.

BTW the ignorant thing applies to anyone who's ignorant, and the language thing to anyone who hasn't bothered to come to grips with the language of the country they are in- even those who have grown up there.

I'm going to stop now this has all the markings of becoming a five-minute crazy rant.

    Canon printers.. ahhhh

I wonder when these companies will realise what a huge mistake it was in terms of customer support to move 'irish' jobs to india....

In my job i have to deal with a lot of companies and they are by far the worst.

In the interest of fair play. The best is easily Iomega hands down..

NTL won the award in the UK for worst Customer Service.... I'd say their Irish operation isnt far behind.

One of the best in Ireland? Superquinn by a mile. I'd say the Irish arm of O2 would fair a good bit better.

Here's the UK list from an Internet Market Research Services poll in March this year - worth having a look at as most of them are in the Irish market:

    Worst customer service:
    1. NTL
    2. BT
    3. PC World
    4. Currys
    5. Dixons
    6. British Gas
    7. Comet
    8. O2
    9. Argos
    10. Vodafone.

    Best customer service:
    1. Tesco
    2. Asda
    3. M&S
    4. John Lewis
    5. Virgin
    6. Sainsburys
    7. Boots
    8. Morrisons
    9. First Direct
    10. Orange.

Up till about a month or so back I would have agreed 100% with this, but since the chanegd to BT I've had some things to contact them about and each time I was called/eMailed back within 48hrs and had any problem solved or query answered by friendly, helpful operators.

Dell too, I've always seemed to come out the right side of (although I've only had a few dealings with them and ALWAYS with someone Irish...

Chorus. 'nuff said I think. If you've ever had any business with Chorus you'll most likely know what I'm talking about. If you've not, then don't.

In fairness to them though they're not that bad, as long as everything is working. As soon as something goes wrong, or if you need to contact them for any reason then they become the worst people in the world to talk to about anything.

yeah il second that. they very seldom had answers to the problems, just generic phrases that could be applied to everything. i have found the chorus service/product to be very bad and it will be gone from my sight this july.

Dell no. 1 in crap customer service, and that helpline, they seem to think were stupid, like we dont know what gigabytes are etc. Ill be thinking twice next time i buy a laptop from them

Next is Eircom, the man on the phone would but you to sleep, he would talk so slow and it sounded like he was dribbling.

Lastly was Sky, over an account being overcharged, but in saying this they did give me 4 months free subscription for just a 10 euro overcharge on Sky box office, so i suppose they shouldnt be on the list.

Chorus (thieves) - falsified a credit card payment from me once and got upset when I wouldn't send them the original "don't you trust us?"

Meteor (lazy thieves) - double-debited roaming payments and never set it up,

Tesco (lying thieves) - charged different price to what was on shelf special offer label, denied that it was on offer, when shown the shelf label said that the offer didn't begin until "12 June" but forgot that it was already that date. ALso Managers are never to be found and their shops run out of stock constantly (Mahon Point)

UTV Internet (never respond) - waiting 3 months for a response to a complaint.

    Paypal - impossible to contact.

    furniture shop on George's St

messed us around big time with two sofas back in 2003

    lied about delivery times
    lied about delivery delay

then it transpired they had forgotten to place our order (5 months later)

made it extremely difficult to get a refund

I've never had any problems with Meteor since changing. Think 02 are a shower of robbing b@stards!

Found it very funny that I could ring Meteor's customer service from an 02 phone with no credit but I couldn't ring 02's own because they charge you for absolutely everything, even to put you on hold.

Other than that, I'd have to say Dixons/Currys/PC World. Am amazed they were 3, 4 and 5 in that UK list, did the people who put it together not realise that they are all the same company??????

Tesco Home Delivery - the poor driver gets non-stop insults for all the faults of everyone else. A child could point out the faults in their system. I no longer use the system 'cos guaranteed malfunction and don't really want to sift thru other people's food to find my order, or have to clean other people's shampoo off my biccies...

My particular hatred of customer service would be Dell, Just two days ago my pc packed up a virus hit it hard, now i will have a new pc minus 5 months of my work :( anyway i rang them and they tried to extort €50 of me to fix it but instead i gave it to family friend and he's now fixing it for me. I really am p*ssed with Dell and their awful customer service, If i could at least undersatnd them (strong northern ireland accents all the way) Ironically i find the indians i dealt with in the past to be easier to understand and at least they didn't give me impudence, I gave them a mouthful of nasty words and hung up. I also find the Smart Telecom reps extremely annoying, alright buoy, (strong cork accents) although they stood listening for 45mins while i told them how competetion dosen't work and explained some of the basic marxsist theorys, (strong leftie here) and then i told them i'm not interested in big savings. Eircom are quite good though compared to those i explained already.

    Regards netwhizkid

Yes..... I had fun with Foko too......
They pissed me off sufficiently that I went down to the companies office and looked up the owners details. Its a guy called Robert Drennin (and he owns the shop that has replaced Foko on George's Street too- so do pop in......)
It took me 7 months to get my couch- along with 6 days off work on different occasions when I was promised that the couch was coming. The comedians even thought it was funny for me to be ringing them to confirm the couch had been loaded on the delivery van and confirming the route with the driver......

I was chatting to one of their staff members over coffee in Blanch, and was calmly told that they had outstanding orders of over 600 couches (gave me the breakdown by branch) and other furniture. The couches averaged nearly two grand each- so that was over 1.2 million in outstanding orders. I calmly rang Mr. Drennin and told him what I knew about his staff meeting and informed him of a friend in the Sunday Business Post, who was interested in doing an article on Foko (as they had gotten a good write-up as an Irish company there a year previously). He hung-up, but rang back within 5 minutes and asked was I in a position to receive the couch the following day.... I confirmed that the delivery men (multiple) would bring the couch into the house, as I was not going to be able to lift the Granada couch (I had had an abdominal operation- my stomach was being held together with 34 staples..... as I would split myself (literally)). When the couch did arrive..... it was delivered by an old age pensioner doing a nixer without any assistance whatsoever. I paid him 20 to help me get it into the house- it took over an hour, neither of us were much use......

I still have contact details for Mr. Drennin......

For me the wrost has to be NTL as alot of there staff have no idea what they are talking about. Mind you I only have there basic cable service. I would hate to be depending on them for BB. Mind you I use dodgyweb for BB and they are not much better.

As for the best, I would have to award that to Vodafone Ireland or MBNA Ireland, anytime I have needed to call them, I have found them very polite and also very helpful.

that figures, I knew I wasn't the only one affected by their call-centre mentality attitude to doing business.

1.2 million eh? They had use of that cash for months as they used make people pay upfront in order to avail of their 'discount'

Beat me to it. Not only are they incompetent and rude, but they'll lie to your face and tell you that they tried to deliever a package but there was no-one in, when you were there all day and their tracking shows that parcel never left the warehouse. Parcels take two days to get from Germany to Dublin but twelve days and a whole lot of hassle to get from their warehouse to the address they're meant to be going to.

I actively avoid doing business with any company that uses them.

GLS. Dozy bastards. As mentioned, items go via Germany. Bought an item from a US-based seller and after several weeks had to ask him for a tracking number. The item went through Germany before coming to Ireland, then back to the States.

So I called them to find out what the story was, waiting an hour to get through with that vomit-inducing 80's throwback corporate jingle.

GLS: 'Oh that item was returned to sender.
    ME: 'WHAT?
    GLS: 'It was sent back.
ME: 'But you didn't even try to deliver it!
GLS: 'It says here that they attempted delivery but there was no-one in.
ME: 'But they never tried to call me or left a note!
GLS: 'He must have been out of cards.

I knew it wasn't the girl on the phone's fault, but I couldn't hold my frustration.

Long story longer, I ended up having to get the item re-delivered, with associated charges. Needless to say I asked the seller to use a different delivery company.

    Idiots.

    It is what it's.

    My 3 votes go to

    ESB Networks -

They came into my garden and lopped loads of bushes down and trampled over all my new plants. Didn't notify us or anything. Spent 5 months getting them to admit they did it. 10 phone calls, 8 emails. Then another two months for ELCOM the ESB regulator to get an apology out of them which consisted of
"We're really sorry, but we have every right to destroy what we like in your garden as the ESB lines are our property..."

    Chorus -

We got engineers to investigate a really dodgy picture. They sent engineers when we weren't expecting them. Took 4 days off work to meet them when they said they were coming. The calls centre said they had logged all these complaints and then the next time we phoned they had no records of me phoning at all. Then they came and 'fixed' the problem. We realised later that they had disconnected our second connection. Then we got so much abuse from call centre when I explained that we weren't happy. They are worthy winners in my eyes.

    PC World -

Foolishly bought a dodgy PC from them a few years ago when I was studying. My PC had 2 years worth of Uni work on it (didn't have everything backed up). Then when I booted one day it came up with a hard disk error. Explained this to the premium rate PC World helpline. Only after 10 mins on this line do I twig that they were talking me through reformatting my hard drive ! I went ballistic with them, I wanted a new drive, but they were adamant that this would fix my problem. B*stards.
