McMunn's restaurant has one but it's not a view of the beach like the Sea Rescue webcam. Here's the link-

tis pretty poor anywhere I've been - if I was running a business and payin for wifi I'd be pretty annoyed with the service they are getting.

Don't I remember hearing or reading something about the escorts for the Roses were getting some sort of training in Ballybunion and that RTE was sending a camera crew to film it all? I'm hoping to catch a glimpse of the village today or tomorrow on the RTE player.

I think that might be on tonight

Yup, we had them down here for 2 days. It was a bonding and boot-camp. They (the escorts) were brought out on kayaks, and surfing, and the Sea Rescue took them out on their rescue boat, and they did a bit of abseiling on the castle green cliff ...... oh, and they played tag-rugby against a quality ladies team too! (aplogies to the ladies, I dont know what team they were from .... something like the Irish or Munster team, or something).

Anyway, I heard that the escorts tale is on this evening (Monday) too .... video recorder Sky+ set to capture that!

Watched the ROT last night, and yes indeed, our fair town is featured in the escorts story. The clip is about 70 mins into the 2nd part of the show. I think Ballyb looks great! The weather on the clip looks better than it was on the day!

looks like the escorts had a great time .......

RTE uploaded the show without breaks so I figured the 70-minute mark would be about 55 minutes into the 1 hour, 42 minute show but I can't find the Ballybunion part. Looks like I'm going to have to watch the entire thing.

Ballybunion doesn't seem to be in RTE's upload of the Rose of Tralee - unless it was there very briefly during the segment where are the Roses were touring Kerry together.

...leave it with me , I will put something together for y'all :-)

OK .... the segment was on after the Darwin Rose (Bridget Haines), she was the one who read Dathai the bedtime story while he lay on the bed .

If the RTE Player doesnt have it, then check out my recording (done on iphone while Sky+ plays on the telly) ...... apologies for the quality (on sound there is just DOS saying at the beginning that these escorts are prob chancers, then Thin Lizzy / Boys Are Back In Town soundtrack, then DOS saying that they were def chancers!)

Thanks for the YouTube video, rider. I don't think that was on the RTE Player. (But, to be fair to RTE, I wasn't actually watching the video, I was listening to it.) But I didn't hear anyone mention Ballybunion.

Maybe it's on the other video. RTE has two Rose of Tralee videos. One is about 40 minutes and the other is about 100 minutes. I only checked the 100-minute one. I give the other a listen and keep my ears sharp for someone mentioning the Darwin Rose.

There are six Rose of Tralee videos on the RTE Player. And I can now eliminate the one with the Texas Rose (the green gown) in preview image. Ballybunion is not in that one either.

    Two down, four to go.

Could you not have looked on YouTube? The segment is sure to be there & no further need to trawl through the rte player

All I see at YouTube is rider's video.

Aww, the one from RTE has been taken down. :(

I should have made a copy of it while it was up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,179 ✭✭✭snow scorpion

Rider, did you see this one? I especially like the choice of Song for Ireland.

And that shot at 1:25 with the light from the setting sun! The urge to get back to Ballybunion is completely filling my mind now.

This might interest folk. Its one of the the Wild Atlantic Way promotion videos, and this one is by local historian Danny Holahan. It has Ballybunion in it (the rest is North Kerry, so its relevant to the Kerry site)

Yeah, we had mixed weather lately .... but there were some very-late-summer days where it was actually bright, dry & warm! Some good sunsets too ....
