Just saw Jessica Pegula's comments on 5 set matches for women at Wimbledon(pie in the sky probably)

    https://x.com/BBCSport/status/1940084337828941939

Happen to think she is right, I find 5 set matches in the modern era really tedious. They were fine in the 90's early 000's because a 5 setter would tend to last around a little over 3 hours but these close to 5 hour grind fests we get for 5 set matches today are just tedious, most of the time you're just praying for the match to end rather than enjoying the tennis

    Rain today at Wimbledon.

Thought we were going to get another shock with Sabalenka but won the first set on the tie break and is now 4-2 up in the second so should see this out.

Been sneaking looks in between working on the Tiafoe/Norrie match. It looks a good one both player going for it.

Norrie takes a 2-1 lead over Tiafoe. Sabalenka serving for the match.

    Sabalenka through 7-6, 6-4.

You must be watching a different match to me, they're still playing!

That's the second time in 24 hours I've seen someone on the internet say a match was over via retirement when it was still ongoing, or similar. Beware of fake news people, use reliable sources.

Another seed gone in the women's draw: Donna Vekic, semi-finalist here last year, and very dangerous on grass. She's been out of sorts this year though, and Cristina Bucsa (# 102) took her to the cleaners, a bit like Cocciaretto did to Pegula yesterday.

I am listening to it on Wimbledon radio and thought it was behind and was waiting for the retirement and was thinking it can't be that far behind.

    Norrie definitely through now lol

Carlos faffing about on Centre Court against the world # 733.

    Tarvet didn't disgrace himself anyway!

Watching the Boulter match now. It feels like it's rare her matches don't go to three sets....and she is behind in second set after winning first…

    Yep into a third!

Boulter broken in opening game of third set very very poor....she looks mentally gone but we will see!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,846 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Boulter looks cooked at this stage....

I think I will watch Raducanu v Vondrousova should be interesting.

BBC TV agrees with you, they switched to the build-up of that match rather than stay with Boulter to the end.

I don't blame them, they made the right choice, she lost last set 6-1 seemingly ouch. She is so frustrating she has bags of talent but mentally can be all over the shop.

What happened to Boulter? Looks like she just collapsed during that 3rd set

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,846 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I don't think it was anything physically tbh, the first set was really tight, Boulter just seemed to lose it completely mentally near the start of second set.

Raducanu match is fun! Raducanu up a break again at 5-3 serving for first set.

First set Raducanu 6-3, very enjoyable lot of decent hitting. Vondrousova has a nice serve but too many double faults in that first set.

Raducanu breaks in second set now 2-1 up. She has been very good so far, especially considering Vondrousova won her last tournament in Berlin, beating Sabalenka on the way.

Ok that is impressive from Raducanu break points saved and now 3-1. She is playing so aggressively!

Just turning on Wimbledon and Emma raducanu seems in control of her match. Was it as good as the scoreline suggests ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,846 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

She is playing extremely well, so aggressive in returns and serving really terrifically so far especially on second serves. Now 4-2 in second set.

Just read the winner gets Sabalenka...tough!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,330 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

so I’ve watched the second half of the second set raducanu does seem in good form. I’m happy she’s gotten some form back and is playing recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭klr87

No, Vondrousova is playing atrociously IMHO (disclaimer: YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,846 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Ok that was a seriously good performance from Raducanu! It's a shame she has Sabalenka up next, but who knows if she plays like she did today she has a chance!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,846 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I think that is harsh. Raducanu was so aggressive, not many cheap points, returns were so deep, served excellently, you could see Vondrousova was trying to mix things up but to very little effect. I don't think

On Raducanu I have not seen her play like that for a long time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,122 ✭✭✭Floppybits

Raducanu looks to be playing well be interesting to see how she does against the Sabalenka power game. Paolini gone as well now. Osaka is quietly making her way, not much being said about her.

Looks like this Fritz/Diallo match will be going 5 sets. Diallo is serving scud missiles at Fritz. Being 6ft 8in you'd expect that.

And so it does go to 5. Fergus Murphy really earning his money this evening (… or do umpires get paid overtime?)
