Form on grass over the previous few weeks on the women's side has proven to be worth nothing these first couple of days at Wimbledon.

Fritz wins the 5th set against Mpetshi Perricard. Some comeback in the end.

Semi-finalist last year and 7th seed Musetti out in round one also.

Fritz wins the one set shootout against Perricard

Swiatek takes the first set 7-5 and is 3-1 up in the second.

Bublik out. So many seeds gone in the opening round.

Bublik is so frustrating, you never know what you will get out of him.

Kvitova's Wimbledon farewell didn't last long, once Navarro figured her out. So one of the American billionaire heiresses made it to the second round, after Pegula's shock exit.

Meanwhile, Rinderknech and Zverev are plodding along on Centre Court, 3-3 in the fourth set, Rinderknech up by a set. At least they didn't close the roof when this match resumed, nor did they for the Fritz match on No. 1 Court.

I saw the clip with Medvedev giving out about playing on grass....

There is also a previous clip of him giving out about playing on clay..... Lol

    Zverev takes 4th set....into a 5th we go...

Draper up 4-1 against Baez....looks to be racing through.

Baez obviously doesn't care much for grass. He has a very poor record, and only played a couple of exhibition matches last week, no proper warm-up tournaments.

Rinderknech serving for the match! (5-4 in 5th set)

    Zverev out!

Jack Draper up a double break in second. Baez has had trainer out.

He almost choked it, but crawled over the line. I don't think Zverev is ever going to be a factor at Wimbledon.

Baez retires. They should move the Gauff/Yastremska match to No.1 Court, and very quickly.

Didn't think he'd be troubling the later rounds anyway but always nice to see Zverev go out 👍🏻

… and they have, starting in about 20 minutes.

Gauff in some bother here 2-5 down and serving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,984 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Yastremska serving for first set and Gauff breaks her!

Jack Pennington Jones (world ranking 281) through in three sets versus Etcheverry.

Now there's an aristocratic name if I ever heard one.

Monfils-Humbert has just gone to a final set. Probably a great match, but I'm already following at least 3 others.

Yastremska very good tiebreak for her and takes it 7-3 against Gauff. Very interesting!

Muller has been hanging on throughout that second set (lot of break points!)...just about...and has won tiebreak against Djokovic gutsy! But would expect Djokovic to kick things up a notch now.

6 set points he saved, many of them break points. They've got to wait now while the roof is closed.

It was gutsy from Muller but Djokovic will be kicking himself.

Gauff looking in real bother now...down 4-1 in second set with Yastremska serving.

I am flicking between the two matches.

    Gauff knocked out of Wimbledon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,984 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Ha it is alright. Not sure of his background, I think he played for same college as Norrie. Jack Draper is one who had a bit of head start to say the least!

    Gauff out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭klr87

And Gauff is gone. The old problems with the serve and the forehand were very obvious. Yastremska can be very erratic, but her power really got to Gauff.

Crowd looks miserable, looks like a oven in there, closed in , under piping hot lights, not even a breeze. A tournament of this size that can't afford air con, sad .

Crowd can't get out of there fast enough

Imagine what it would be like to be on either centre court or court 1 with the roof closed and Sabalenka screeching. Wimbledon would need to provide ear protectors to the spectators.

Top men's seeds gone Zverev, Medvedev, Musetti and Rune. Top women's seeds gone Gauff, Pegula, Qinwen and Badosa.

Wonder if we will see anymore go today?
