I noticed it cause when charging a switch flicks and my heatpump turns off.

Are you saying you have a priority switch that only allows one of the car charger or the heat pump to run at a time?

Thats not ideal and not good for your heat pump to get kicked out like that.

I'd be having a discussion with your electrician about that.

Unless you have a high power heat pump it should be able to run alongside the charge point.

A priority switch would normally go on an electric shower.

Ageee. HP should be constantly running. I’d adjust the charger down so that it doesn’t affect the HP.

Tonight, got into the GTX and the infotainment system is completely borked. Spinning wheel saying “Please Wait” but never shows the icons (except for, weirdly, the Mode, Assist, and Park icons at the top). Climate works. Windows and mirror adjustments do not. I’ve tried forcing the system to reboot several times. Also got out and let it sit. Still no luck.

Really disappointed. I had this type of problem (but not exactly the same) on my 2022 ID.3, but this one has been perfect since I got it in March. All thought all this weirdness was behind me with the new model on 5.4.

Have you been able to sort it?

On the older models, I saw some people needed to pull one or two fuses for the infotainment system - have you tried that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,346 ✭✭✭KCross

I’ve tried forcing the system to reboot several times.

Did it reboot for you or it just did nothing when you held the button?

Also got out and let it sit.

How long did you let it sit for? I think it needs 30mins or something like that?

Yeah that is exactly the case. How would it damage the heat pump?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

It did reboot, multiple times. But just went back to "Please Wait." We did try getting out and waiting 15 minutes, but it didn't work. We were in a hurry to collect someone at the airport and ended up driving there without the infotainment. Lights and HUD and Travel Assist were all working.

It was about 45 minutes between the time we left the car in the car park at the airport and the time we got back to it (flight was late). And when we got back it worked again. Doesn't inspire much confidence that these things are still happening on the latest and greatest model with software 5.4. There wasn't a software update in progress or anything like that, so I don't know what it wa.

Is there no way to hard reset it when driving?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

If by “hard reset” you mean holding the on/off button on the infotainment system for 20 seconds, yes I did that. It didn’t clear the fault.

The only thing that did work was allowing the car to turn off fully (so: not just in standby).

It is odd that there’s no way to manually initiate rebooting the car itself by, say, holding down the button on the steering column for 20 seconds. If there is a way, I haven’t found it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,346 ✭✭✭KCross

As you found out, 15mins isnt enough. I think it needs 30mins to "go to sleep" and then it will do a proper reset on the next wake up.

    At least that recovered it.

But I agree, not great that it happened. I havent seen it myself in the last 5 months in my GTX on v5.2.

If it happens again I'd say you should log it. An ECU might be acting up.

The reset/reboot is what you did…. hold the on/off button for 10-15secs and it will reboot the infotainment.

The only other two options are leaving the car off/locked for 30mins or resort to pulling fuses(not recommended).

After sorting the small issues I've had with the car there is one thing that sticks out as an annoyance, the brake pedal. Thought I'd be use to it by now but still feels awful. Way to much travel.

Hopefully someone can answer this.. but I believe when pre cooling the car it runs off the 12 volt? If that's the case am I at risk of it dying if I do it too much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭Tech_Head

I thought the “optimised battery use” option prevented this but can’t say for sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,853 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

My ID3 advised me that it needed to do a software update, and that it would need up to 2hrs to do it.

I simply got out of the car and got it a 2nd time the next time I used it. Again didn't tell it to install.

Now its gone. No notification any more. Anyone know how to get the update to install, and do I actually want it to!?

The same happened for me yesterday. Updates are usually offered at the end of a journey. It will most likely reappear in the next few days, hopefully when arriving home in the evenings when the car can be plugged in.

No pre-cooling/heating uses the high voltage battery. The 12v is just for things like unlocking the car, the radio etc. I believe the heated seat/steering wheel is powered by the 12v though.

    Yip you were right.

It popped up again. Im afraid to set it going in case it bricks the car! Anyone successfully downloaded 3.8 yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭Ryano87

Picking up mine tomorrow - looking forward to it now. First electric car for us.

Little apprehensive given some of the issues others are having but fingers crossed it was the right move!

That would make sense since as it increases the wh/km.

I've had an id3 1st and now on an id3 GTX, wife on second id4 and we have had no issues with any of our cars. Enjoy your car looks well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 561 ✭✭✭electricus

It took about 2 hours, during which the car can’t be driven, but all good after my update. I made sure it was charged up to 80% after the notification and installed yesterday when it reappeared.

There are a few extra post update updates which take a few minutes to start - the data connection was stuck on E until that completed.

I also have to wait until next time I start the car to use the Shop app.

Other than that it doesn’t look like anything has changed.

Got the same colour. Enjoy hopping into it every day. No major issues so far. Hope it treats you well!

guys, a friend looking for an ID3, 2021, maybe 2022 depending on price etc

Seen some with parking sensors on the sides of the front and rear bumpers and some without, what’s the significance here?

    IMG_0379.jpeg IMG_0380.jpeg

Seen one with IQ Drive and some that don’t mention it, what’s the significance?

    Thanks.

Check the trims, as iq drive features, such as Travel Assist, were only available on the top few trims: Tech, Max, 1st Max, and the larger battery Tour, which were a minority of ID3 2021 sales, so not as common.

Travel assist was not included in these trims: Life, 1st, 1st plus, Style, Business, Family.

The sheer volume of id3 trims, makes this a little confusing, i may well have left some out.

Scroll down for more on iq drive, which is a suite of assistance packages, some of the features listed were not available on the 2021 model:

    https://www.frankkeanevolkswagen.ie/en/models/passenger-cars/id-3

As far as i know, all Ireland ID3 models have front and rear parking sensors(as per pic 1) known as Park Distance Control, i am unclear on what the side sensors do, presumably for parking assistant plus. and which trims have them and do not have them.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,947 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Yes, trim levels is a mine field in the early VAG EV’s alright. The top pic has projector lights, as opposed to the reflector on the bottom. They top pic is a 2021 car with IQ Drive on the main screen and appears to be Pro Spec.

The bottom pic with the side sensors is a 2022 car and seems to be a pro trim too, but it has reverse camera.

I guess it will come down to driving them and see which is the best suited.

This video came out yesterday which explains the trim levels of the 2020-2023 models:

I found a copy of the pdf from 2021. The spec options are still confusing but it helps!

its the range thats confusing tbh, and the fact it kept changing regularly.

That Martin Karel chap is fantastic with going into detail on EV’s, the detail, you won’t see anywhere elese. He works for a London BMW i3 specialist called Wisely Automotive, and they have the best collection of helpful tips, to maintenance, trouble shooting, what to look out for in a s/h purchase etc and really detailed videos on that car, i’ve ever seen.

They have a good bit of other EV videos also.
