N roads and a 100km/h dual carriage way mostly, so average speed is 70-80 km/hr

Getting 350kms in summer, 300 in winter

2nd hands seem great value currently

looking at early ID3’s, all things being equal, which spec is the one to have? The price list and spec’s aren’t incremental from one to the next, they’re all ‘in addition to life’.

Tech and Max seem v v rare, and Family, Style and 1st Plus seem v similar spec and price

depends on individual requirements. Eg sunroof on Style, Family , Tech, Max.

but Matrix headlights is one of the big must haves, it wasn’t on the Life Spec or 1st, but is on the other trims, including 1st plus

Here's the price and spec for that year for them in case you don't already have it

Thanks. The ones with matrix lights and pano roof look like sweet spots

I'd think long and hard about whether a pano roof is worth it. Lots of reports of them creaking and they generally make the car body feel slightly less solid. In general the people who get the most benefit/enjoyment from a pano roof are the backseat passengers.

    good feedback thanks.

Are the seats the same in all models? Looking at ad pics, they all seem to be bolstered the same, maybe the life seats look a bit more basic/flatter, but it’s hard to make out

sorry to have my mental process play out on the thread -

I looks like the ‘business’ spec was popular, plenty for sale, and it has the matrix lights, keyless entry, rear camera, wireless CarPlay, and without the pano roof.

The Family, Tech and Style are v rare and not much extra that’s a must-have on a one-person shunt car

”sorry have my mental process play out on the thread “ - thats exactly, what this place is for ! Apologies are not required !

a quick spray of silicone lubricant around the outside seal of the glass roof fixes the creaking.

Not a permanent fix, tho. I heard reports of people being driven crazy by it.

VW will take in and apply a lubricant for free to address the creaking as and when needed.

Seems to happen after a strong frost and/or freezing weather over a few days.

I’ve had it sorted once for my ID4 (owned just over a year).

Has anyone had any issues with shock absorbers or suspension?

We have a 202 iD3 first with a knocking noise coming from the rear suspension. The car is nearly 5 years old now but only has 32000km of mostly urban driving. We have the car for 2 years now fault free.

Have it booked in to the VW garage next week but wonder if any other owners have issues with this or if I'm just unlucky?

Does yours have the Dynamic chassis or the standard one?

I’ve a 2025 ID 3 with DCC and there’s a knocking coming from the front drivers side suspension. Plenty of threads on it but seems to be related to the DCC controller as they knocking goes away if the wire to the suspension is unplugged.

If standard, not that I’ve seen as much. Can depend on a whole pile of things so best to talk to a garage about it. Springs do sag eventually and multiple factors can expedite it (load, road surface etc).

😫 Its knocking already!! That cant be suspension wear. Must be something else? Any links to that issue so I can look out for it.

I dont have it on my GTX. The software is still doing weird things though. Im hoping there is an OTA update on the way soon!

I’ve a meeting with the dealer next week on Thursday so will share more then. The DCC doesn’t seem to be specific to ID3s. Mine could be either something needing to be tightened, topped up or a part that needs to be replaced.

Just the normal suspension. I'll report back when I get a diagnosis.

Shocks do wear out or fail on all cars but I would have expected to be well over 100k km before they gave up.

For 5.4 users, you can disable the seasonal theme here:

settings -> screen settings -> seasonal infotainment animation -> switch off the currently active infotainment animation

Mine is here and ready for pick up once I pay for it. Hopefully next week some time. Still not seen one in black and sort of regret not going for red but hey ho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭Tech_Head

Don’t be. The black is great, looks like a different car as it’s a uniform colour instead of the rear / room being different colours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 897 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

My logic was basically that. Thought I'd get tired of the hatch lid not being the same colour. No problem with the roof being a different colour.

I had creakiness on my 212 reg Tech. I sorted this with WD40 dry lube on the mount points under the rubber strip. Easy enough to do. There's a VW document (in german) with the fix info showing the mount points but it's using VW Special Lubricant. On the German Mein ID forum they found this WD40 dry lube worked longer. It'll be an annual maintenance item for me.

In other news my ID3 had a new set of tyres recently (Pirelli Cinturato SF3 all season), NCT, and service. All going well, no issues with it now at 4 years old. I would have liked a SOH reading from dealer but forgot to ask.

Just got an update on this and should be sorted. The identified a part that had come loose. Tightened it up, did a test drive and said the knocking sound was gone. Technician knew there stuff which was great. Will take for a test drive later but hopefully sorted 👍

Does anyone ID3 not perform battery conditioning or balancing when plugged in?

This is the graph for my Leaf when it was charging, always assumed the little saw teeth at the end was balancing?

    1000022269.jpg

And this is the graph for my ID3, it seems to charge at near full tilt until it falls off a cliff

Test drove the GTX performance at the weekend. How are the new owners here finding it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭Nash Bridges

Just following up on this, shocks were fine, the front drop links needed replacement. This seems to be common on early iD3's but we're way outside the warrenty period and it wasn't too expensive to fix at main dealer.

Bought my 21 reg ID3 back in April. Knew the software would drive me mad - it was on 3.1 and it had high mileage but was a good price and got a very good trade in offer. Had to go in to VW for a software update and they did work on the high voltage battery due to faulty cells. Was done under warranty and had a courtesy car for the few days.

Software was updated but still unable to log in but not worried about that for now. I really, really like this car - not something I would have pictured myself in but it's great.

The garage I bought it from and VW have been fantastic all around. Just thought I'd post a positive experience buying a high mileage used EV for people who are worried due to all the horror stories they might have heard.
