The unwritten rule is to pick a game you have not had much or any experience with but you want to 😘

And I'm sure there was a rule ,not same genre as the previous round .

I’m envious you have arcade hardware for your attempts! Was definitely feeling some of the limitations of only having a gamepad when dodging some of the denser bullet patterns.

On Wednesday evening at midnight I came in after a few beers and decided that my whole gaming nook had to be rearranged. Stuck my cabinets on the back wall instead and it actually resulted in a lot more floor space.

Only finished wiring it all back up last night so it'll be great to sit down and test it out with some Gigawing this evening!

Gave this another go last night. Managed a high score of 102,576,467,220.

It seems almost random to me. At the same point in any level, I can vary from 1billion to 30 billion to 50 billion and so on. It simply just a case of prioritising the collection of stars over killing baddies? Do you get more points for the reflected hits?

Good game all the same. Never heard of it before and would never have played it otherwise.

Yeah I'm kinda same ..I think I know what to do on paper . Get as many medals as ya can , dont die early ,let the multiplier build . When ya know a load of bullets are going to be spewed at you reflect them all and collect them and use reflect as much a humanly possible as the bullets are turned Into medals . Use as little bombs as possible and ensure ya get good end level bonus .

However put into practice I may as well be playing with my left foot , It just doesn't come together for me and my scores are laughable compared to competition here

You need to priotise stars AND killed enemies. Most tank enemies you should prioritise cancelling bullets for gold tokens (point blank cancellation if possible). That’ll make your multiplier shoot up. Then every enemy you kill or boss part you destroy will get you more points. AFAIK you don’t get more points for reflect killing enemies, but it will increase your multiplier so that’s more points down the line.

The game is pretty well designed to encourage and sustain combos. In the first level for the purple / red ships, for example, it’s pretty much perfectly timed for you to do a reflect attack on every big tank ship that shows up. Just the right gap between them for recharging the shield and hitting the next enemy.

But yeah it can be quite variable from run to run, despite the layout being so predictable. In the first encounter with the mid-boss ship for example my multiplier can end up anywhere from 190,000 to well over 300,000 depending on how lucky I am with the bullet cancels. That gap can make a big difference towards your ongoing combo. I can usually tell by the score and multiplier at certain parts of the first three levels whether a run is going well or not.

Ok yeah ok that's where I suspected I was falling down and your example of that blue/red ship pattern confirms it .

As you say the enemy and bullet patterns are designed and set so you can maximize the reflect at exact certain points . I think maybe I'm using it to much at wrong points and left with me finger up me arse when a point comes I should be using it

One last question .

You can't lose a combo unless you die is that correct . Or have I got this game completely arse over elbow

There are two types of combos.

You can combo each individual level, where each token collected will increase in value as you go. If you die, it gets reset to zero. Hence dying midway through a level can be pretty disastrous, as the boss is usually when you get up to the really high numbers. The combo gets reset when you start a new level. Bombs don’t reset this however.

The game-long combo / multiplier is the sparkly number up in the left hand corner. Your level long combos feed into this and does not reset when you die. This is what determines the number of points you get from each enemy kill. This doesn’t reset when you die.

Thought I'd change things up and give the blue ship a go for the first time.

Straight away got 1 trillion. Might be something to this ship!

Yeah I like the blue ship. Good level order and wide shot range. Bit faster than the default one.

I really like red too, but it’s a much trickier shot spread.

Ohhh there is hope , I'll be straight on the blue ship when I'm home and hope something clicks and I suddenly perform like a nimble fingered maestro . A sega rally co pilot just calling out The next bullet patterns and what to do

Yeah the level order with Blue is actually great. Can build up loads of points on the first lava level.

Those homing missiles are excellent too, they get a lot of stragglers I was missing before.

Ladies and gentleman , children of all ages , this is the makings of a miraculous come back in the championship rounds from the veteran journeyman o1s1n.

Johnny ultimate is on the ropes and can't fight back at all. He talked of retiring mid match as was sure he had this in the bag ..but this could be a miraculous rocky style comeback 😂

I made absolutely mince meat of the level four boss, totally got into the zone. Your score really goes nuts at that stage or the game. I was actually afraid to look at my score in case I got distracted haha

I'm fine with that , however it's up to o1s1n as he is the only real contender and only vote that counts . If it was me my reply would be " can't really do that as you officially retired mid match bragging resulting in o1s1n reaching deep to retaliate, and turn on the spite fuel reserve to put you in your place " 😂😂
