Arcade High Score Challenge - Round 11

We haven't had a vert schmup yet so decided on

A kick ass capcom cps2 arcade board,

Dont ask me why I picked it over other vert shooters , I've never really got into bullet hell games and didn't want to choose a cave game so I thought a capcom classic would do.

Plus my brain is still dead from a wedding at the weekend and it hurts to think to much

It might not be a Cave shmup but the guys at Takumi, who developed this, and Cave both worked at Toaplan before it disbanded.

Ahhh is k k, I thought it was developed by capcom..seems it was just distributed by them .

I just remeber it having top notch soundtrack and sound effects that took the roof of the house when i played it. I hope the gameplay is also as good!

I wanted to pick radiant silvergun or ikagura as they were actually released as arcade boards in Japan but it seems the emulation for them is still wishy washy on most of the emulators /platforms ...

Great choice, one of the relatively few arcade vertical shmups that runs in hori mode.

Will throw a tonne of time into this one. Really looking forward to it.

On hindsight , after cabal I actually doent went to dodge another bullet again for a long time and was thinking of super mario bros arcade version.

Just jumping along happy out to the sound of gleefull music.the sun on my face , the wind at my back , not a roll nor bullet to be seen 😂

Saturn and Dreamcast emulation are really great at the moment so should be easy enough to get running.

However I'd have told you to pick two other games because I'm really good at both. We had an Ikaruga high score competition back when it came out on GameCube and I literally beat everyone's high score within the first 20 seconds. Radiant Silvergun I've been playing on and off for years but only managed to beat it recently (with the 1 credit per hour Saturn version, not a 1 cc clear).

Been itching to have a vertical shmup high score challenge and I've not played much Gigawing at all, so will be going in as a noob!

I played a little bit of gigawing when cave shooters were first getting emulated. It was fun but balls hard. Not sure I made it to even the second stage boss. The bomb mechanic is a lot of fun.

I played ikagura a good bit but not radiant silvergun .

Ahhh we will stick with Gigawing..I'm a noob at it also ..I really just remeber the audio ..and some spider boss is it ...maybe that was mars matrix!!!

So put your money where your mouth is and get involved . Your always giving me all that your a master . Last competition I had with you with battle garegga on your cab your excuse was you couldn't see out of one eye .

In fairness it was about 4am and you had rubbed deep heat in your eyes after trying to sooth my ankle which had a few problems after attempting a kick flip on your skateboard 😂😂😂

Nah seriously wouldnt be a fun or fair competition so much rather gigawing so we are all about the same level.

An honest man, every game I choose I have had little or no experience with and it's the same for you lads which is a great way of experiencing games you would usually just give a quick bash and not involve yourself in the intricacies of the games.

Now a days every thing is at your finger tips at the touch of a button or two, so I feel I have A.D.D when it comes to games.

Back in the day if ya bought a game ya could be sure you played it to death as it was your /or your parents hard earned money and the only game you'd would be playing for months 😂

Ahhh Gave it a credit there ...it has that shield bullet reflector system job.

Music and gameplay is exactly how I remembered it...cracking tunes and sfx and medals just flying everywhere to collect .

I presume they multiply . Anyway didn't get past the 2nd stage . I'll try again later.

I thought I must be some type of God at this, first go and no deaths at all to the level two boss. Then the bastard took three lives from me!

Ive just had one go and thought the same , I was just fluting around and thinking this is a piece of P1ss...sure I just reflect all their bullets when I'm in a spot of bother or lash an oul bomb out of I can't . Then I lost all me lives in quick succession

Id say this badboy just gets harder and harder as it progresses .

Yeah I thought my score was the other number up top left…they must be multiplier or something as when I saw my score as I suprised at a legendary score that in reality is absolutely nothing

Did a run there again and the first level boss seemed different ?

Got to the level three boss this time and my score is six times higher than my last one. Haha. Just a mere 607 billion.

Yeah it seems to vary based on who you pick. I'm sure there are lots of little things that trigger certain gameplay elements too that we'll figure out.

This could be another track and field or robotron job for me ...where I'm just absolutely useless no matter how hard I try

Giving this a go (playing via Steam which is the annoying Capcom arcade app)… only managing to survive up to the second boss so far but happy with this score for that stage. Still a bit to go to overtake @o1s1n though.

Can never get enough of a good bullet cancel.

Not sure what the heck is going on with the character select though - basically starting an entirely different game. Using the default pink ship for now.

It seems easy buts its not a it's an odd one that lulls you into a false security.

I don't know what's going on with the scoring system as of yet or that multiplier , you don't seem to lose it , which is odd.i'll cop it after a few more games I'm sure .

And theres a shoot down bonus after a level which is self explanatory but also a boss completion score ...don't know what the craic is with that ,I've got 100% every time but I've not beaten second boss yet

Ahh ok the medals multiply with little scores displayed when ya pick one up..they seem to only reset if ya lose a life or use a bomb I think? , doesn't seem to matter if you miss some in a chain .Still don't understand why it keeps a multiplier score up top left .

The multiplier is the amount of gold tokens you’ve collected (some are worth more than others). Hence why you want to collect as much as possible by bullet cancelling. It resets at the end of the level.

Just tried the green ship and it’s so much easier to rack up a big score in its first level 😂

When ya collect medals ...shields, stars and big stars I see on screen pop up of multiplier increasing . Bur what's craic with diamond count up top left. Why do I need to know that ?

That's the level three boss beaten and up to level four this evening. Fluffed it on level four when I realized I was so close to 1 trillion.

965 billion.

Just playing the standard default ship. I don't like how the green one starts on level 2.
