Been a great March to date. Completely clouded out for the eclipse this morning in Dublin but almost idyllic conditions for the full moonrise with only a bit of horizon cloud that blocked its view for a short period of time. Image from Burrow Beach facing towards Howth pier.

Stunning picture Cluedo, turned out a lovely day in end, thankfully we had the full sun for us on match sidelines so the lighter coats and😎 were out in force!

One swallow may not make a summer – but what about five? A quintet of our summer visitors has already made it to Ireland with sightings this week of swallows in Moyne, County Longford (1) and Cape Clear Island in Cork (1) on Thursday and Cahore in County Wexford (3) on Wednesday.

According to Irishbirding.com, there were sporadic reports of the bird's presence over the winter, but the past week's fine weather had led to a spike in sightings.

Just after St Patrick’s Day on March 17th is the traditional time for the arrival of the first swallows, so this week's sightings are slightly ahead of schedule. Swallows can have multiple broods over the course of the summer in Ireland before departing for Africa in in late September or early October.

    Looking a bit like spring.

It is indeed, make it up there a couple of times a year, have seen it frozen over too, good time to visit at the moment before the midges later on in the Spring /summer. Had to run out of it a couple of times too especially one time in particular when somebody in work got a brainwave to do a picnic up there in July down at the bottom lake, warm day after earlier rain, nearly got eaten alive!

Got up to 9 -10C here in Kerry in a steady variable breeze with a Northerly component to it giving a fair windchill, probably that bit cooler up at the lake being about 220m asl.

Another Pic from a different angle further in along the boardwalk which I'm sure you are familiar with mcburns, I think you holiday down around the peninsula sometimes.

Yes down there a few times a year, usually try to get a walk in around the Glenteenasig loop, so quiet and peaceful up there.

The equilux – when day and night reach a perfect balance of 12 hours each – takes place in Ireland tomorrow.

The little-known event takes place a few days before the spring equinox, the date of which is determined by the Earth's tilt on its axis as it travels around the Sun. In fact, there is 10 minutes more daylight on the equinox.A location's equilux dates depend on the latitude. For Ireland, the perfect day and night balance occurs on St. Patrick's Day.

This year’s spring equinox, which marks the start of astronomical spring, is on Thursday (20 March) at 9:01am Irish time. The equinox occurs at the same moment wherever you may be on the planet. For those south of the equator, where the seasons are reversed, the event will mark the first day of autumn.

Glenteenasig is paradise, especially in the calm dry weather we have right now.

A wonderful spell of weather 😀 And it's really been great here in Kerry in 2025 so far, so dry and calm compared to what we normally get.

Is the autumn equilux around 25 September Wolfe?

18th March and hardly a drop of rain all month. Dublin Airport showing 3.5mm.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

That east breeze would cut you in two,but at least it's dry

It feels very chilly in Cork with the easterly breeze and cloudy skies. Been a good March when it comes to lack of rainfall but i'm definitely looking forward to a bit of heat in the sun at this stage.

Stunning morning in Galway. Why can't every March be like this?

I would be perfectly happy with this weather until mid November, blue skies everyday and bags of unbroken sunshine and calm winds. It can rain at night when we're all asleep.

Today and tomorrow are Summer. Then back to rain or showers again. But mightnt be too many or much. High stays close by so good dry periods too. Hopefully the windchill days of 4c are over for another year.

We can get those up to early June, particularly on the east coast when there is an easterly involved. I remember start of June 2023 being bitter due to the east wind with temperatures barely reaching 12C and feeling much colder than that.

June 2023 became the warmest June on record with above 16°C average temperatures for the first time in Ireland. May 2023 was the 2nd warmest May ever.
