    Yes.

You cannot report posts when "in prison" as it is the same as starting a new thread.

You can PM @squonk or @Leg End Reject but as with reporting a post in the normal way you will not receive a response and the post may not require any action

I’ve been in jail for a couple of days for asking a clarifying question in the incorrect thread but I return to the feedback thread to be greeted with further confusion.

if I may ask again - regarding social media posts and other published works of a presenter - are we allowed to discuss these going forward? I asked this earlier in the thread and was told by Leg End Reject that such contributions were allowed

    IMG_0635.jpeg

Upon reading the additions to the thread in the last few days I’m now not so sure as this seems to have changed to sole commentary on the radio shows? Can a mod please clarify? I’m genuinely just asking for clarity here.

In relation to Mr. Duffy, again I’m at somewhat of a loss to understand fully what is allowed and not allowed. For the record I understand comments on his accent are not allowed and therefore I will not comment on same. I would however genuinely appreciate a response on understanding if commenting on his diction, grammar, and shall we say unique pronunciations are within scope - as they are not accent related. If all of that off the table that’s fine, I’d just like to know.

Again, I’m genuinely just asking for clarity here. I am not challenging or being disrespectful or ignoring a mod’s instruction, i’m genuinely trying to gain a full understanding of what is acceptable and what is not?

The liveline thread is not a thread I visit all that often but I’d like to be in a position to contribute without fear of sanction (provided I stay within the rules of course).

It's not really any of your business how listeners interpret what they hear ?

commenting on his diction, grammar, and shall we say unique pronunciations are within scope - as they are not accent related. If all of that off the table that’s fine, I’d just like to know.

Don't comment on his speaking voice at all, discuss the content, not how it's said.

If a presenter posts on social media you can comment on that, but don't post it just to personally abuse them. Your comments should be within the parameters of the charter.

As previously explained we can't provide an exhaustive list, don't be a dick.

his speaking voice can at times be the reason for comment,

His faux sad voice for instance

Am I understanding this right - we can't discuss a RADIO presenters speaking voice? Surely criticism of a radio presenters diction is relevant to their abilities (or lack of), and therefore a radio forum?

Just want to make sure dat I understand dis!

Mod - warned for breach of forum charter

I was trying to clarify, faux sad voice is fine, mocking how someone speaks isn't. We all have an accent, would you like someone to continuously mock yours?

I've read the thread and can't find a post that claims Ryan can't read.

Could you PM me a link please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,815 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

It’s incredibly difficult to search for posts these days, although it wasn’t really much better on the old platform.

There’s been a lot of references made about Ryan’s reading habit and how it’s all lies, he doesn’t actually read books and others questioning his reading ability. Comes up about his writing ability, when his column is published, too. Even though it’s, supposedly, not written by him at all.

It’s not really a problem, as such, it’s just when it’s so overdone and repeated it just gets old. Same goes for the fantasy meetings or chatgpt-style conversations. Thankfully the AI pictures haven’t been seen for a good while.

I guess the RTE megathread can take a lot of that side of things now.

Oh no, it was implied his reading ability was impaired alright.

But that's not the same as saying he couldn't read.

You misinterpreted me on this thread too, that kind of posting doesn't help and isn't feedback.

    Hi,

I’ve been redirected here by a mod to ask why my post regarding Mr. Tubridy’s Q and A was removed last night?

Please note I am not questioning a mod instruction or challenging a mod here - I am simply asking for clarification as to why a post was removed, something altogether different.

My understanding is this is a feedback thread and I assume we can (as users) of the site ask genuine questions like this?

I only commented on his podcast and things he said on it. I think it’s a fair question to ask regarding a man who constantly talks about books about contradictions like judging a book by a cover, never reading books over 400 pages and stopping at 50 if he doesn’t like it?

I’m at a loss to understand what I have said to attack his character in my post?

I’m asking so I can understand - because I cannot see how I would meet the threshold for “being a dick” in that post.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 20,592 Mod ✭✭✭✭Leg End Reject

You didn't just comment on his podcast, you made assumptions about Tubridy and used your assumptions to personally abuse him.

    Gentle mocking excludes personal abuse.

ETA - stop posting in bold too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Can you please show me where I abused him in the deleted post? As I can’t see the post to defend this accusation I have to ask this as from memory my only comments that could be construed as assumptive were regarding comments he made on ditching a book after 50 pages and his comment about judging a book by its cover. I thereafter asked something if that was really the behaviour of a book lover - is that what is considered abusive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,175 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It was implied and only implied that he didn't read as much as he says he reads. It was never suggested that he can't read or that his reading ability is limited, the implication made was that he was not as big a reader as he implies.

Just had another few flashbacks from the Q&A yesterday - PTSD no doubt. Suggesting listening to Tubridy gave you PTSD. Perhaps if you find it so traumatic you should avoid listening?

He confirmed he gets the vast majority (I’d say all) of the books for free in what I presume was an accidental omission. He listed off a few publishing houses that send him freebies but mentioned they were all Irish - obviously hasn’t cracked the UK publishing freebie circuit yet. Old habits die hard I guess. Here there are assumptions used to attack Tubridy

Also mentioned something about the man who looks after the building he lives in London always commenting on the number of books he gets in the post. I can’t recall if this was one of the times he broke out into one of his English accents or not. How is that relevant apart from mocking?

Curiously, he also confessed to having a 50 page rule whereby if he’s not interrelated after 50 pages he ditches it. I have to ask - does that really sound like someone who loves books like he claims? He’s also previously confessed to never having read a book of over 400 pages!

Finally for now, he said he does judge a book by its cover. I mean, really? Really, indeed.

This can't be made any clearer, any more posts like this will receive pointed warnings and bans. We get it, you don't like Tubridy but you are obliged to post within the charter or you will lose your posting privileges. This entire post was just to mock Tubridy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

I’m sorry but I really have to disagree on this.

    1. The PTSD comment is clearly in jest. However I am concerned that it appears you’re suggesting to me that I don’t listen? I never said I didn’t like listening to the show, that’s an assumption you have attributed to me there.

    2. He admitted to getting “freebies” from Irish publications houses live on the Q and A. Given the extended list of freebies complied in the old thread the comment “old habits die hard” is relevant. “Not cracking the UK freebie circuit” is a factual statement - you have assumed I’m mocking him, I’m merely stating a fact.

    3. The accents comment: Mr. Tubridy throughout his Q&A engaged in employing a number of types of various English accents, mostly upper-class, aristocratic, olde world types. How it is relevant is it was part of said Instagram live, and he frequently engages in these and other accents on his show. I didn’t comment positively or negatively on it in that post, so I can’t have mocked him in it.

    4. Yes, really. “Never judge a book by its cover” is a metaphorical phrase that means one should not judge the worth or value of something or someone by their outward appearance alone. The metaphor extends as I’m sure you’re aware far beyond books and is applicable to broader life, however if we keep it solely to books are we to believe that his comment is correct and the metaphor used for centuries is incorrect? I believe his statement doesn’t hold up to scrutiny and hence my “I mean, really?” comment. Again, how is this mocking?

I completely disagree that the entire post was just to mock him. Those points are valid comments on things he actually said.

I do feel it’s quite a stretch to label those as mocking. I’m honestly not trying to be argumentative here but I do think a lot of these criticisms are completely subjective - something I and others have repeatedly asked for further clarification on for the purpose of avoiding exactly this type of incident.

I said on the Tubs thread, thinking it was the feedback thread:

Terence: "I think it’s fair game to question the character of an individual who trousered 150k of our money and won’t give it back despite saying he would."

Mod: "Yes it is but that doesn’t relate to his on air performance This thread is about his show. As @RoTelly mentioned, there is an RTE after hours thread or, indeed, there is an RTE megathread in this forum"

Me: "This thread wasn't just about his show, until the title was changed to restrict the discussion.

Licence fee not just about RTE.

Tubs is no longer in RTE.

Tubs does a lot more than do a show.

He promoted cars sometimes and gets paid for that, sometimes without doing the work.

What thread can be used to discuss that?"

I've never seen the likes of the oversight on this Tubs thread in all my years on boards. Bizarre stuff imo.

The thread is about his radio show and you can comment on his social media posts but not to the point of personally attacking him.

He promoted cars while working for RTÉ so discuss that in the RTÉ thread.

The reality is that one poster went too far in a post and @Boards.ie: Mike had to get involved. The charter has changed in response to that and those changes will be reflected in the moderation of the forum.

His photo is bring used for Hyundai now.!

    I've asked on original thread:

I'm confused because I started this thread by saying:

'Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable)."...

Can the mods give us a location to discuss Tubridys various dealings, PAC appearance, promises and his natural radio skills?

h @Leg End Reject - would it br possible by way of courtesy to have a reply on this? Communication is key in these matters and I simply seek clarity on the matters I have raised.

Is this thread the appropriate to discuss the sh1t show that the recent oppressive and interventionist moderation has made of this forum?

I certainly don't think it has improved things and it would probably be more beneficial if the boards.ie sheriffs would address the flaky technology backboning this site.

It is extremely hard to use - topics scrolling up and down furiously making them.almost impossible to read

There is a thread running in the Feedback forum where issues are reported. You can check that thread to see if the issue you are experiencing is a known one. The scrolling issue is known.

On a related note, we ask you to keep feedback civil please.

"If you want to start a thread whinging about Tubridy go for it - somewhere else. This is the Radio Forum. Where Radio is discussed (or at least should be).

The amount of people who log in here to do nothing but whinge and complain is "bonkers" 😉. And then the same people complain that the site is dying!! The whinging and moaning and complaining about everything is what's killing it!! Nobody other than the whingers want to read it, and even they all report each other because they don't agree with that the others are whinging about!"

Sorry I didn't manage to quote correctly, but it's not true to say that the Tubridy thread wasn't popular. It has over six and a half thousand posts, in the space of less than fourteen months, and has over four hundred thousand views. I know that your comments are partially meant tongue in cheek, but a lot of the previous reporting was because of bad actors who were trying to get the thread closed. Re-reg posters who were trying to goad others into a reaction.

Don't know if you were specifically referring to the Tubridy thread or the site, in general.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

There appears to be a new rule creeping in that regular posters are not allowed to post in bold, even in a limited way. I dont mean an entire post in bold but particular pieces in a long post highlighted.

Im not aware of any previous boards posting guidelines, charters that prohibit this.

Is this a radio forum rule, some new sitewide rule or is this a solo run by one moderator?

+1 on this. I have asked for clarity on this and the response I received was vague to the point where I remain confused. I would appreciate absolute clarity on this as it begs the question as to why the feature is available if we’re not allowed to use it?

The Cable and Digital TV forums had this rule for a long time (might still do). Depends on the forum, it’s not a site-wide thing.
