Just realized that I will be away from home next Thursday and probably not back until late Friday evening. I could change my delivery address but Smyths don't seem to have that option online. I see there is still stock available online, just wondering if I cancelled my pre-order and put it back in would there be any chance of me not getting it Thursday (put to the end of the que or anything?)

Could try change it with DPD when the order comes through but had any issue before with them where I scheduled a package to come on a Monday instead of the Friday but then they dropped it on the Saturday when I wasn't there

Why is this 509 euro ? You would think they'd have left it a 499 euro. I think I saw Amazon France had it for that, but not including delivery of course.

Possibly marginal difference due to VAT rates? Ireland - 23% vs France - 20%

Are Smyth's likely to deliver on launch day? I'm not going to be around and I don't fancy leaving a €500 switch on the doorstep until I get back.

You'll more than likely get an email from DPD with options on what you want yo do, i.e. delivery to pick up point, neighbour, etc.

Last couple things I got from DPD had them send me a text at about 9:30 saying delivery would be between 9 and 10 and go to a site if I want to change it. First one I saw it too late and the second I changed in time.

If doing click n collect, Smyths hold it for I think 5 days.

I see there'll be a charge setting to stop at 90% to reduce battery degradation. Sounds good.

Could kid ourselves by turning it on immediately to prolong battery then after a couple years turn it off for a charge "boost"...

You have 2 days to collect from Smyths after you are notified, otherwise the order will be automatically cancelled and it will move back into stock.

Anyone else going for the overpriced accessories? I've got a Switch 1 Pro controller but thinking of grabbing the 2 variant and I've got a Gamecube controller ordered.

Smyths have detailed their Launch events. Have a bigger event in the Swords store at 11pm on the 4th but seemingly midnight launches everywhere else. Including "We will also have limited stock of Nintendo Switch 2 available for purchase!"

Ah jaysus. Im going to go to the midnight launch. Not for the hype, but for the craic.

Pity the poor souls who actually have to work at the launch.

Any good sources for 512GB express cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,180 ✭✭✭wassie

Not at the moment. The Amazon price for the Sandisk 512 was £87 (out of stock) - probably slightly more when delivered to ROI, which wouldn't be too far off Smyths price of €110.

Its relatively new standard and the 256GB is the sweet spot at the moment. While some retailers may have bigger sizes (512GB / 1TB) in stock or for pre-order, a lot of stores in the UK and Europe have reported delays or temporary stockouts with estimated restock dates ranging from June to as late as September 2025.

I'm going to hold off until the Black Friday sales myself, whereby hopefully demand will have softened and more manufacturers have released cards increasing competition.

Brilliant! I didn't think they'd be going for it. I'd a gang of a few of us heading for 9am the following morning so going to see if I can get them to go to this instead.

I'll wait until after work on Thursday probably. Not sure when I'll get to try it out.

Hope by the time I do, that the day 1 update is easier to download since I'm sure the servers will be like Christmas morning.

Wonder what would be a good Switch game to test to see how it runs without an official update.

A good Switch 1 game to test with? Maybe Age of Calamity (framerate test ahoy)?

Will any Switch (1) game see any benefits without a patch?

I assume, without a patch, it will be like GBA on DS and DS on 3DS i.e. the extra specs will have no impact.

Games that use dynamic resolution or have wonky framerates, in theory, could see a benefit but because these games aren't running natively on Switch 2 and there's some translation layer going on, it's not a given that games like that will run better

For anyone upgrading, what's the last game you'll play on your Switch? I think having finished Cereza last month, that's the last I'll play since currently playing Outlaws on PS5 and not much sense starting another Switch game before next Thursday.

Mine will probably be trying to finish Red Dead Redemption. Curious to know if that and Arkham Asylum run any better on the S2

We know now there is a day one patch for the Nintendo Switch 2 for it to work, you can't even play single player games until this patch drops.

So my Question is there any point going for the Switch at midnight launch. What are the chances of the patch been released at 12 midnight, slim in my book. The whole thing is a farce, no details from Nintendo on drop times on the 5th June.

At the very latest the patch would drop by midnight in New Zealand so 11 hours before the console launches here. They're not going to launch the console in part of the world without the patch being ready. In all likelihood the patch will probably be available a day or two before
