Thanks all for answering my question. I was gonna take the Thursday and Friday off. I think it better to now get into work early on d Thursday so I can get out d door as early as possible then head straight to Smyths and take the Friday off! :-)

Same. :/ The concern about possible hardware price increases down the line also has me jumping in earlier than planned.

You can pre order for 1 cent. Get the dopamine hit, drink it in, watch your thoughts. And cancel ! Just as good as buying one, 😁

Will be my first time pre-ordering from Smyths, anyone got an idea of how long in advance they'll take the money?

Their site says "Chosen payment method will be pre-authorised 2 - 7 days before item becomes available.", just wondering from people's experience if this is broadly accurate?

When I preordered a PS5 payment was taken the night before at around 9pm.

Anyone know what courier service Smyths use? DPD are very reliable in my area so I'm hoping it's them.

Usually DPD, sometimes An Post. Always arrived on time when reordered consoles or games so I'd be hopeful. Based in Dublin in case different elsewhere in country

Nintendo charging on preorders from the online store, well ahead of release

Yes the pre-auth is placed in roughly that time frame. Payment gets charged automatically at the point of collection, just like a click and collect order.

If its being delivered, you will be charged when it is dispatched.

I still see the switch 2 can be still be Pre-ordered at Smyth's and many other outlets. Three weeks out till Console release, I don't think there was ever a time before in console history releases, You can still order it so close to launch.

I would love to know what are the actual figures here are for pre-purchase. Where does it fall compared to the original Nintendo Switch. I have family in America who told me it's the opposite there. None to be got anywhere.

The US is always in a frenzy about buying stuff. They can never have enough stuff. Social media whips then up. And now the tariff situation is just making things crazy. It's really just a circus they want to spread everywhere.

It's Switch 1 + Mario Kart+ and Zelda+ right now. There are millions already made. Nintendo is going to sell over a 100 million of them. They won't be in short supply. Even little Johnny isn't that excited as he doesn't care about frame rates or something that looks like Mario Kart 8. Also, he probably has a PS5.

Also, we have excellent weather here at the moment, so our eyeballs are elsewhere. I bet if we had had a month of regular weather, the pre orders would be gone now.

3 weeks from today we should all be getting our Day 1 Switch 2's and Mario Kart World!

I’m 50/50 on this and thinking of cancelling my preorder. I only play my Switch when we go away but I also do really like new gadgets 😂

€500 is a lot and the games are looking very expensive.

Do you think supply will be an issue later in the year?

Given cost of living post-covid, you have hit the nail on the head.

Supply will not be in an issue if this report is anything to go by.

We are taking steps like bundling software with the hardware to accelerate adoption in the first fiscal year, aiming to get off to the same start we did with Nintendo Switch.

Maybe we'll see some more bundles for Christmas...

As others have mentioned, supply wont be an issue but I suspect that the current price will probably be the cheapest the console will be for a long time if that's any help in justifying it.

Xbox have already put up prices, Sony are talking about it too and Nintendo have already mentioned they may adjust the price. Even if it's caused by US problems, the price will likely go up around the world regardless

Would love to be wrong on that point, but I doubt it

Sony put their prices up a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah - reports last month indicated that "…the belief of one analyst, who estimated the total bill of materials cost for the Switch 2 to be $400 USD. The system launches in June, priced at $450 USD." Meaning that the switch 2 may well be sold at a loss - something Nintendo havent done in the past.

Interestingly, based on US prices, "Adjusted for inflation, the Switch 2 is about $50 more expensive than the original Switch, which launched in March 2017 for $300 USD."

Same article links to another which gives Retail price adjusted for inflation of previous gaming devices which is interesting, especially for the PS & Xbox.

Sony has said it is considering further price hikes for its products, in response to an expected 100bn yen (£513m) impact from US tariffs. Reading what analyses are saying, another increase across the board can not be rule out in the near further.

How do you all feel about the inevitable digital future with regards to buying your games this gen?

For context, I missed out on most of Switch 1 exclusives so I'll be playing a lot of those on Switch 2. These can be handily picked up for 40-50 physical and can be bought immediately. As yee know, you could be waiting months for those same games to drop to that price on the eShop.

On one hand, knowing an all digital future is coming, the idea of having a digital library that would follow me through future Nintendo consoles is appealing. I have a small few unplayed digital Switch 1 games that I bought previously. It'll be nice to play them when the 2 arrives.

The flip side is the higher purchase cost with no resale value, or the long wait for a discount.

Anyone care to share their strategy for this gen?

Myself, I have missed out on most first party switch games since Zelda Links awakening. Changed job, not for the better. But that's behind me now, and I have started ordering switch physical games over the past number of weeks. Links Awakening. Super Mario Wonder and The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. I already had Zelda Tears of the Kingdom from release, but never got a chance to play as I sold my Switch a number of years ago. Next purchase Super Mario 3D world + Browsers fury. So far, every game I purchased were all under €50. There are some good deals second hand at the minute, way better option than eShop.

That's kinda what I'm leaning towards. The price difference in favor of physical is very difficult to ignore.
