Logan Paul, is scheduled to make his official Raw on Netflix debut

    Declaring for RR?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,034 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Best wishes to JD McDonagh who has apparently collapsed on his backstage, his head took some slap

Roman is 2k25, pretty sneaky from Drew there

Caught a clip of that spot, looked ridiculously sore

Sami turning on Cody at the Rumble being nicely teased. Wouldn't be against it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,815 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I find it bizarre that JD was allowed to continue given his obvious state.

Looks very poor for the WWE management of its talent. I know they put themselves in danger of injury all the time, but I would have thought such an obvious head injury woulld be treated differentlly and they'd have taken him to the back long before the match ended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,295 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Seemingly (and surprisingly) not a head injury

I'm sure the refs checked on him enough to see after the spot and during the match if he was showing signs of head damage, so let him continue not seeing any signs and making sure he was still lucid, not concussed etc. Adrenaline probably carried him enough to finish the match with broken ribs and a punctured lung though.

    Goddamn that was nasty though.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,916 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

I think there has to be a point where, after a knock like that, regardless of whether or not he's saying he's ok, you call an audible and get him out of the match asap. It wasn't a main event match or anything important; grab him and say "better safe than sorry, let Dom go to the finish while you get checked out." Wrestling on, and taking more moves, while he has a punctured lung was a bad call, even if they weren't fully aware of how bad an injury it was.

Glad he's ok though. When I saw the clip, it really looked like a potential neck breaker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,262 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Had to laugh at them bigging up that rapper being a massive wrestling fan, only for him to say "This is my first time at a match", the phrasing of which no wrestling fan would ever use.

Paul Heyman is gold on the mic, a good build for the rumble, no clear winner

Admittedly, I'm only watching clips the last few weeks, but I do like there's a few options for them.

I reckon it's Punk or Cena, with the idea of having those two face off vs Cody or Gunther at Mania in some form though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,034 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

The men's match is so open and could go either way. Cody sounded drunk during that promo with Punk (which was tense)

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

You can actually see the table embedded into his ribs here. Looks beyond painful. They obviously broke his fall. Thankfully it wasn’t his neck or head taking the impact first.

Fair play to him for gutting it out and finishing the match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,344 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Was the 2k25 reveal the tribal celebration replacement I thought last night's Raw was picked by Roman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90,515 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I fear they could have Logan Paul win and challenge Gunther at WM

I would be happy with Punk finally winning a rumble as I did think last year was his turn

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

If Logan wins I want Gunther to chop the living lights out of him for twenty minutes and win convincingly.

I feel like we may be looking at a Punk/Rhodes and Cena/Gunther championship matches. Gunther is the perfect foil for Cena.

Yep. I'd be quite happy with those matches for Mania too tbh, Cody Punk feels like it has to happen.

I'd expect Jacob Fatu vs Roman potentially if The Rock isn't available.

Edit: Actually, Rollins/Punk/Cody might be another route they take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90,515 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Punk vs. Cody is WM worthy money match but so is Cody vs. Randy, so many options

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

I say it'll be Orton KO at Mania, with Orton returning at the Rumble to RKO KO off the ladder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,880 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The new commentary tables look tough so can understand the damage to the ribs. But yeah they should've erred on the side of caution but it went on a long time after.

Once again they call out all the rappers I never heard of. I wonder if it's just because I'm not young, not a rap fan or are they just big in America.

I honestly thought JD was just a bit banged up initially, so after hearing the news I rewatched the JD/WR match and yeah you can definitely tell Mcdonagh is hurt & something's off. He calls the ref over and points to his ribs at one point. Stunned that he did another flawless moonsalut towards the end too! 😲 I guess adrenaline got him through it as well as him just being a tough bastard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,394 ✭✭✭ThePott

Jesus that JD bump was ugly. Very fortunate it wasn't his neck or head.

Absolutely should have been called though. WWE have done well with this in the past but between this and Dakota last week they need to stop listening to talent and call things whenever there's a doubt. Nobody is dumb enough to complain about them calling off a match for the safety of the performers. Tough as nails to finish it but dumb af to leave it go ahead.

Sami's story is really interesting right now and I think this is the best we've gotten out of Cody as champion too. He really sold being worn down by the title and having someone like Punk play into that weariness and making him paranoid as it feels like more and more people are coming for him and the belt was awesome and lead to an amazing promo.

Penta getting cheered and people already doing the ciero miedo without him saying it is damn good news for him and a Rumble appearance could catapult him big time too.

Decent enough Raw aside from that, nothing mindblowing. Getting all these streamers involved is probably a good business idea even if I don't give a toss about them. I didn't care for most of the rappers but I'll always pop for Killer Mike 👉️🤛

Might be the most unpredictable Rumble in ages, definitely hyped for it.

Carmelo declared for the rumble by attacking Cody after Raw

How did he pull this off with broken ribs and a punctured lung is beyond me.

Once he heals up they could use this fire to propel JD to the next level.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 55,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

The Penta bit is huge for him, push him to the moon and give him Bron for the IC Title at Mania. He's already super over and as ThePott said a ten minute stint in the Rumble with some of the big names (possibly even eliminating Bron setting up a confrontation down the road?) could launch him into the stratosphere.

Even my 11 year old is doing the ciero miedo and the hand gestures already.

Where was the ending with everyone in the ring throwing each other over the top rope? Guess will be saved for Friday.

And the person standing tall at the end is it winning it

I think I'd even take Kross vs. Sami than Sami vs. KO again

That was pure heartfelt emotion from Jey even I was teary eyed for him

Flair will never be over as a face, she just screams heel, I think it will her vs. Tiffany ultimately at WM, watching the Grammys, Tiffany and Sabrina Carpenter could be twins

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,684 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

I was expecting Jey to tell Gunther that Gunther needs Jey if Gunther wants to main event at Mania.

Without Jey then Gunther would be lucky to even make the card based on how rare he is in any main events. Where was he for Netflix debut? Where was he at the Rumble? And so on.

    Maybe it will come yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,262 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Enjoyed the promo from Jey, but I feel like if it's him against Gunther it'll be an afterthought at Mania. Gunther vs Cena and Jey vs Cody would be far more interesting to me. They didn't even think Jey vs Gunther was PPV worthy even a month ago.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 55,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I agree I think Jey Cody would be the better choice, not sure if we will get it though.

Mind you I'm starting to think that Cena will fall short again at EC and he'll undergo a "crisis of confidence". He alluded to it when he came back that he hasn't won a match in ages, it would be interesting to see them dig down into that a bit more.

Didn’t he do that before which le to that Undertaker match

Was anyone else's Netflix very glitchy throughout? Thought it was maybe the tv, but was glitching on my phone too.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,983 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

At first I thought it was to do with the Wyatts but then I realise it was Netflix itself glitching ALOT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,880 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Not sure if it was a combination of clothes and make-up but Carlotte moved like the plastic doll she looked like.

I expect the Sami/Owens thing is to give them a match in Toronto since not in the Chamber match.

Why was Lyra in the crowd, she is on Raw plus is a new champion

Was Seth going for a mix of Macho Man Undertaker 😁 after putting out Roman indefinitely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90,515 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Yes Gunther vs. Jey at WM will need something special, maybe ladder or 2 out of 3 falls, ironman etc., as Gunther was honest in his tear down of Jey who didn't attempt a comeback reply, roasting Gunther for lack of defences on ppvs and appearances on Raw etc, could have been a start, we have already seen Gunther beat Jey more than once

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,394 ✭✭✭ThePott

I actually loved Jey's promo and it got me interested in Jey/Gunther for Mania. Dumb they faced each other like a week ago though. I think Gunther saying beating him adds nothing to his legacy makes me think that's the set-up for Gunther/Cena. Nothing would add to his legacy more than retiring Cena then Cena wins to get 17.

Charlotte's promo was rough as hell. She only works as a heel and seemed annoyed that the promo was bombing.

Punk/Sami was great and Kevin turning on Sami was great. They are such natural enemies that I'll never complain about them feuding again.

They're really teasing Rhea/Iyo which I'd be delighted with.

Netflix feed definitely struggled this week, have had no problems until now so not sure what happened. Thought it was just me.

Have to admit, I find myself out 'watching' more raw and smackdown now that I can just stick it on the following morning when I start work. Hitting the FF button during the entrances cuts the shows down to manageable watches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,880 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Charlotte's promo was like the opposite of Becky's promo after she attacked Charlotte. Trying to make the crowd do the opposite of what they wanted to do.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 55,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I don't like commenting on appearances at all but what on earth has Charlotte done to herself. With all the talent that WWE have I've absolutely no idea how they saw Charlotte as the one to give this years Rumble to. She's good in the ring but has never, ever been able to cut a promo.

She went from getting emotional about her time off to calling Rhea a little girl for calling her out, make it make sense.

I dunno, I wanna see this version of Gunther that will absolutely ruin Uso for making him his WM opponent.

The threat that Gunther hasn't even been trying yet several lengthy runs into his WWE career is kewl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,394 ✭✭✭ThePott

Had the exact same thought, wonder if this will have the same effect with WWE having to go with how the crowd reacts and have to make Charlotte heel.

Charlotte absolutely does not need it. I like her as a performer more than most but she is vastly overpushed, Saw a shocking fact on Reddit during the Rumble. There's been 8 Women's rumbles, with the winner challenging at Mania, Charlotte has missed two of the Manias since the Rumble started (injured last year, COVID a previous year, one of the few years she wouldn't have challenged or challenge a Rumble winner).

Of those 6 Manias since the Rumble began, every single Rumble winner has challenged Charlotte, the champion at Mania or she has won the Rumble.

2018 - Asuka won challenged Charlotte. 2019 - Becky won challenged Charlotte and Ronda. 2020 - She won the Rumble.

2022 - Ronda wins the Rumble and challenges Charlotte. 2023 - Rhea Ripley wins and challenges Charlotte.

    2025 - Wins the Rumble

    It's ridiculous.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 55,688 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Worst part is her winning vs Asuka and Ronda for no reason really. Still annoyed about it being Charlotte breaking Asukas streak tbh she didn't need it one bit.

The Ronda/Charlotte feud too when Becky was right there staring them in the face on the other brand and a much more natural foil for Rondas return. Totally killed any momentum Ronda gained through the feud and then actually losing the match at Mania too.

Watch her do the same to Tiffany now too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,394 ✭✭✭ThePott

Agreed, her breaking Asuka's streak was one of the matches that has annoyed me the most off the top of my head.

Her being thrown into the Mania main event with Becky was such nonsense too. I'm worried they'll just feed Tiffany to her now too tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭Officer999

Totally agree. Becky vs Ronda was the rightful WrestleMania main event that year. Perfect storyline. Shoehorning Charlotte into it really made no sense and totally diluted the build and the match itself.
