Mine has been taken and received the collection email about 20 mins ago

I'm curious to hear how the PS5 Pro preforms compared to the regular PS5. I'd say on a nice TV its class 😎

I'm playing Space Marines 2 at the moment. Good campaign, a challenging multiplayer operations mode, and the PvP multiplayer is really fun too (although it do with a few more maps).

Is it worth upgrading? I've had my disc ps5 for 2 years and am v happy.

Got my money taken, email and text to pick up in the morning 🙂.

From digital foundry it sounds like horizon forbidden west is the best looking game. FF rebirth is the biggest upgrade. And dragons dogma the worst implementation.

Also they warned to put in your m.2 before downloading anything. If you start a download and then stick in the hard drive it deletes the duplicate from the hard drive.

I had money taken last night but no email/text for collection. I'm still going to head up around half 9 I'm assuming it'll be fine.

    Edit: just got the text

Here's a clip talking about the "unpatched game" boosts you get on pro. These are games the Devs did no extra work to take advantage of the extra power. So there is potential for them to patch and do better.

Elden ring quality mode jumps from around the 40fps to around 60fps. It's not locked 60 but basically a free 20 FPS.

Gonna be interesting to see GTA6 on this whenever its released, GTA5 was fairly CPU intensive and the PRO seems to be struggling with CPU intensive games. I'll never understand why they didn't even give it a slight upgrade

If you're happy with your PS5 I wouldn't bother. IMO its really only for people who use their PS a lot and who have high end TVs. I think its kinda pointless if you only play the odd game here and there, don't have a high end TV or already happy with your current PS5.

I'm ready... well sort of… need to get that disc drive and SSD sorted 🤣

    Happy PS5 Pro Day!

THe person who said they'd be about today to wait for the delivery is no longer available to wait so I had to rearrange delivery to a drop off point. May be a 24 hour delay as a result.... Good thing I'm working tomorrow or I'd be pissed! Also not sure why I went delivery... collection from here on me reckons!

Mine was delivered around the same time that if I'd gone up to Smyths to pick it then driven home, it would have been round the same time, so happy enough.

Have just gotten it up and running so no first impressions yet. Have swapped over M2 storage, downloaded cloud saves and factory reset and packed up my old PS5 ready for CEX tomorrow. Farewell brave soldier! You've served me well!

Just finished up setting up the pro, I installed the disc drive & SSD straight out of the box without powering on first and everything was fine

I stupidly deleted Astro Bot instead of Astro's Playroom 😅 so the playroom version was deleted off the SSD

Currently resinstalling Astro Bot now before I give it a proper go

I picked it up around 10 today. But won't get to set it up until tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing the first impressions.

Galway had 15 in stock this morning if anyone gets second thoughts and wants to join us 😜

I thought you'd to update the pro first before installing the disk drive I think I heard that from digital foundry but good to know it works straight off the bat.

I did the basic setup, downloaded cloud saves, all digital games I wanted to play and then turned it off and installed the disk drive. All very smooth I have to say.

I ordered a 2tb SSD which is coming tomorrow so I'll be doing more work on it 😃. Glad I got the extra space with all the games put back on the 2tb fills up fast. My OG ps5 was 1.8Tb and I was always moving things around.

First impressions are great on the pro. Alan wake 2 looks class on quality mode. Going to give Spiderman 2 and demon souls a bash later. My young lad is now playing astro bot which still looks as awesome as ever.

I love No man's sky in PSVR2. Flying is so cool and I was really looking forward to a pro boost.

But then my lovely dog chewed my VR headset cable last week so now the headset is dead and Sony don't sell replacements.

So if anyone hears of anyone selling a broken headset where the cable is okay hit me up.

I never actually played this and I know they did a massive job improving it post launch but that looks class. Think I'll add it to the list

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,514 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

DIdnt have HFW to try out, was a PS+ game, so said I'd try the allegedly second best improved game, Demons Souls. Its pretty, I'll give it that. The lighting especially is extremely well done. Just not sold on the gameplay...

Yeah got mine on Thursday last and am very impressed with it, well worth the money

but having said that I was upgrading from a PS4 Pro, if I'd had a 5, I might have waited till the 6 is launched

I play a lot of COD and the improvement in graphics alone would in my opinion be worth the asking price alone

Is everyone else's super quiet? A few times I've turned it on while wandering around the room and think it didn't turn on it makes so little noise. A big part is the disk drive doesn't randomly spin on boot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,514 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I actually came on to say mine is overall not as quiet as the OG. While I have far less coil whine I did hear a bit in NMS the other night. But the fan is always making a low noise too while gaming. Could be that mine is directly on a wooden dresser type thingy with no stand, that I'm 5 ft away from it, and my hearing is really good. But just sitting there doing nothing or playing Crunchyroll, etc it's basically silent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,222 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I did get the vertical stand, but still I can't hear it when it's on, I turned off the beep too which doesn't help. If the lights weren't on I wouldn't know if it was on or not. The OG always gave this big start up noise with fans and disks spinning into life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,723 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Very quiet, about the same as original launch model for me - Subjectively silent when playing etc. Bit louder on the add-on drive access when installing compared to said original, but that's probably a thing with the implementation.

Apparently there is a big debate around sound from the pro based on which factory it came from. But equally within that debate there is no consensus on which factory is the quite one. So it seems to be really pot luck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭jones

Yeah my pro seems quiet or should I say it's quiet once there's no disk in it…the disk drive is very noisy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 425 ✭✭Romero

So what position is everyone placing their Pro? Horizontal with the included plastic legs or Vertical with or without the optional €30 stand? I've placed mine horizontal as I've seen enough repair videos where the liquid metal will sink down and leave a dry oxidized spot on the heat spreader of the APU on the original PS5. Just a shame they didn't offer a better support mechanism then those flimsy plastic legs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,349 ✭✭✭BlakeS94

I have the vertical stand but have mine horizontal until someone makes a wall mount for the Pro version. That liquid metal leaking has been debunked, it only happens if there was a poor repair done and the APU and heatsink weren't clamped together enough. I had my base PS5 for 3 years vertical the entire time, not a single issue.

If anyone wants the vertical stand for cheap, I won't be using it

Yeah the removable disc drive isn't as good as the built in ones unfortunately.
