Still think it is an issue and liquid metal and gravity will cause it to sink and pool at the bottom of the APU when stood vertically so I'm not going to risk it with the Pro. Btw Sony have now machined little groves into the base of the heatsink and it looks like it's to keep the liquid metal in place. You can see this in the video below

Is it worth upgrading from the ps5 to the pro? Opinions?

If you make a ham sandwich and hold it vertical does the ham fall out the bottom?

I wouldn't say it's an issue, Steve said it's an issue with earlier model PS5's, I had an early model, always vertical, and many 8hr+ gaming sessions, never a single thing happened to it, if you think it looks better vertical stand it vertical and don't be worrying.

The plastic feet are terrible flimsy POS though.

Depends, are you a gaming enthusiast or a casual gamer? If its the former, buy the Pro.

Do you have an Oled or even a Qled TV that costs more than the Pro? If yes, buy the Pro.

Can you comfortably afford the expense? If yes, then get the Pro.

The Pro DOES make a difference to gaming, games that have received the patch for Pro enhanced do run better, have better visuals ray tracing, lighting, shadows etc, better and/or more stable FPS.

Don't let anyone tell you it's too much money or not worth it, that's your call. I think it's worth it and I'm enjoying it a lot. Currently playing FF7 rebirth and it looks and runs amazing. YT videos don't do it justice.

Over 10k hours minimum I reckon on mine, vertical since launched and no issues. I think it's like any bulk made product, there's gonna be some that have issues.

Is it worth it? Right now, not really. It does improve the games supported, with more to come(looking forward to Ghost of Tsushimas go at it), but i reckon it'll grow with time. As above, if you have the tv and can justify the expense, go for it. It is the most powerful console available right now! Just needs some more games to prove it.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't be a massive gamer myself just always want the next best thing. My ps5 is also sitting vertical since launch week and never an issue.

My 30th anniversary pro was just delivered from Smyths. Absolutely massive box. Great day for the power to cut due to heavy snowfall.

Sickener that is . Time to buy a generator 🤣

I wanted to get it, and had the money, but I couldn't wait the extra 2 weeks to play the pro

.. And it sold out in about 0.5 seconds.

I would have gotten it especially since I was planning on getting the 30th Dualsense Edge too, so I would have waited the two weeks. But yeah, such little supply and a badly-timed work phone call meant it was out of stock before I could get it.

My 30th Anniversary model arrived today and I love it. Have had a really rough few weeks with my Dad passing away so it's nice a uplift after a tough time and I can't wait to boot something up later.

I really like the aesthetics of it and the packaging is really nice - delivery box from Smyths was enormous though. The little extras like the PS1 USB cover or numbering on the unit are very nice and I love the colour scheme of everything down to the Dualsense recharge station.

Now the joy of trying to sell my existing PS5 begins… 😵

I'm not going to lie I'm very jealous of the 30th edition pro bundle. It looks the business.

Could I ask where your mounting screw was for the base? I can't for the life of me find it. It's not in the base like the OG stand.

I can use the old one but would rather keep like with like.

Like me 😅, take the box out of the bin and open the cardboard insert. In the top right corner you'll see it in a little square with a small black circle. That's the bolt. It's black this time.

The stand comes with an extra panel for the slim. You don't need it for the pro. There will be two holes on yours so when you take the small black plug out of the bottom of the pro you can pop it into the hole nearer the back and screw in the hole nearer the front.

Mine did move a little when it was tightened but the pro stands strong.

I did pick up the standard controller 30th edition though, looks great, well, haven't opened the box yet, love the old ps1 style artwork on the boxes.

Thanks! The stand in the 30th Anniversary box was in a bag rather than in the retail box... So might be elsewhere as I couldn't see it on any cardboard 🤔

Might get onto support, hopefully they'll send the screw.

I do have the disc drive in so it's a little sturdier for the time being.

    Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice, haven't had a console in a while (PS3) would the PS5 Pro be an overkill if I'm only really playing 3-4 titles (Madden, GT series, COD, NBA)? And very rarely online (only COD as people rage quit a lot of sport games)! Usually just single player career modes. My thinking is "future proofing" really…
Is there any games that people here play that have a good storyline that can take a good while to get through?
And is there any major difference between a disk vs Digital? Is the Playstation store your only option for games or the likes of CDKeys work too?

Very much rookie questions as was out of the game a while….

    Thanks

I'd grab an Original PS5 with the disk for your use case. You won't really future proof with the pro.. it's really only if you want the best right now. When the PS6 comes out it will surpass it.

Super value and central had them today for €395.

A good long game maybe God of war or Spiderman.

Ok I have the pro and am trying to decide between Baldurs Gate 3, Silent hill 2 and stellar blade all on sale.... Which to go for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,220 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

    Stellar looks great 😜

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭jones

Yeah I don't get the buzz with stellar blade I have to say. I'm leaning towards Baldurs gate 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,519 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Baldurs Gate 3 for sure. It definitely takes a while to get used to, particularly as the UI is slower and more cumbersome to use on console as opposed to PC, but it's genuinely such a fun experience and one you can really get lost in. I've done 4 playthroughs of it and even on the 4th I was finding new things that I'd previously missed.

The Pro won't really make a difference compared to the other two, but it's such an amazing game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,514 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Stellar Blade is a great action game if you're into hack n slash type games. Story is meh, but enough to keep you going, and I genuinely enjoyed the combat. The whole outfits side of things is skippable as they don't do anything other than change how you look. Unless you want the plat.

Serious amount of info there that I'm not sure I understand but it sounds impressive 😂

Got mine - xmas pressie to myself - a couple of days back, and had managed to hold off on unboxing fun.

So today, as an alternative to work (unless you work for *****, in which case this is a joke honest), I'm getting it all set up (don't want any tantrums (from me)) on xmas morning!

Chugging away nicely transferring everything over from my ps4 pro…
