I'd take that Atletico interest with a pinch of salt. In the last ten years they've only finished outside the top 3 in La Liga once while only failing to make it out of the group stage in the CL twice. And one of those group stage exits they went on to win the EL. You don't turn them down if there's genuine interest for Betis who've only ever played in the CL once twenty years ago.

I think everyone's forgetting Antony's own agency here. He's the very one with the capacity to make a move for his own benefit, on terms acceptable to him instead of arseholing around waiting for Betis. It's not 'punishment' either, it's simply making Antony feel the consequences of his actions. He knows he won't get minutes at United and his game is better suited outside the PL. Yeah, he can hang on here and pick up his contracted wages but he doesn't strike me as the cynical, lazy Sancho type. I think he's just a bit dim or naive, or getting really bad advice. He's certainly not doing what's best for his career, anyway.

'Consequences of his actions', when those actions are simply not taking a transfer that suits the club but not him (for whatever personal reasons he has), is just punishment.

I actually don't like the idea of punishing Antony, but it also is not unreasonable for United to say we will let you go to clubs that present an acceptable offer. Betis have not, and don't seem bothered to.

My stance is more so that we should tell Antony that we will simply not accept a loan offer from Betis. they got a cheap loan last season. they had their try before you buy. He has been presented to a load of other options, apparently - but just as United can't say 'You have to sign for this club', he doesn't get to say 'you have to accept this terrible deal from this club'.

If that results in him staying and sitting on the bench for most of the season, so be it.

I do feel a bit bad that Antony and Malacia have been lumped with Rashford, Sancho and Garnacho. Antony and Malacia seem utterly different personalities than the other trio.

He’s not being punished though is he. It’s fairly straightforward. Antony wants to leave. United want him to leave. He’s training separate to the squad (amongst others) because of that and will continue to do so until the end of the window or until he’s sold.

If he isn’t sold, both sides will be disappointed but the word from Amorim is that these players would be open to return if not sold. Whether he means that or not I don’t know but I wouldn’t call it punishment.

It's a world cup year, players such as Antony need to leave other wise they won't have a chance to make the squad

I've been easier on another then most but it does seem like he and betis are trying to get a deal done for as low as possible when there at least sounds like he has other offers.

I think the club are also within their rights to say you have a market value and if it's not reached then you aren't going, also the manager doesn't fancy you so you won't see much game time (if any) if you don't move,

It's not been too bad so far, but my comment was in reply to a call for him to be frozen out by himself in exile if he stays. That, would be punishment. Given that he actually does have something to add as a fringe option, and a decent attitude, it also seems pointlessly vindictive.

I think Betis will pay up in the end because they can't afford not to take him back. The impact he has for them is worth more than the fee we're asking for. They are dragging it out to chance their arm for a better deal at the end and save on Summer wages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,049 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

And for all we know there's been no acceptable offers. Benfica was the latest team mentioned and sounds like they offered a loan deal also. Saudi Arabia could well be the only offer that meets what we want and even then has it been second tier sources that mentioned them.

are DH gate kits worth it?

Want to buy the new kit but I genuinely can’t afford €100 for a new one.

I bought kits before from DH gate but thought the quality was crap and never even wore it, even after being recommended a seller. That was a few years ago. Have they improved since.

DH Gate is just a marketplace. There are lots of sellers there. I'd wait a few weeks before ordering the new kit tbh.

Theres a fella I used off Facebook, based in the Midlands. Dunno where he gets them, got a good few off him. If its for the kids the shorts and socks comes with them too sometimes. They're excellent quality. I can dm you his name if you want.

I use this lot and always good quality. Only issues I find is they only go to 2XL which are really an XL.

Paid €65 for the new United third kit, new Roma third kit, new Palmeiras home kit, and the Deportivo la Coruna 98/99 away kit.

Mixed results. United third last year was quite accurate. Got the Ipswich home & away too but noticed the printed sponsor going flakey after a half dozen washes and other little things like the crest alignment being a bit off. Handy for playing 5 a side and can’t complain at the price point.

Donnarumma confirms his imminent departure… ignore the clickbait "his next move becomes even more clearer" because it isn't!!

Gianluigi Donnarumma releases statement confirming he's leaving PSG as his next move becomes even clearer

Exactly, this board would be mayhem without moderation.

How's everyone feeling for the season then? I'm looking forward to it but at the same time I'm apprehensive.

I think we've had about as good an offseason than any of us could have imagined. Whilst it's always difficult to judge on preseason games, the players look like they are in a good place physically and they have a clearer understanding of how they want to play.

I'm really positive on the manager. I do have to caveat that and say I was also a fan of ETH but whilst I still think he is a very good coach, I was wrong in hindsight. ETH just didn't speak with the same authority or ever get to grips with the club (Not entirely his fault) like Amorim has done and it's a huge part of managing a club like ours. I think Amorim, if given time, will get us back to where we want to be and that's challenging at the top.

My main concern is two fold. I worry about the fragility of confidence in the players. We have a very tough start and if things go bad, I'm not sure if they will recover. The other big worry I have is the midfield and as a result the build up. We seen signs of it in preseason. When the pass into the midfield is not spot on, then we can get caught and it's going to be our undoing in some games.

Got to try and make Old Trafford a fortress again. I just hope we can get on a roll early on and pick up a few good results.

    Great post All in .

I feel the same about ETH and he was a great coach but for whatever reasons wasn’t strong enough with the trouble makers in the club.
He managed Sancho but constantly played Rashford despite many breaches of professionalism but don’t think he got the support from the top which Amorim has at the moment.

We weren’t great in pre season but still some brilliant passages of play so if we get off to a decent start we can build on it .

i said after the sesko transfer we need to be challenging for top 4. that was based on needing 25 more goals and conceding 10 less.

it is very unfortunate we have statistically the hardest start to the league.

i still think a top 4 challenge should be expected from amorim.

I think we'll beat Arsenal on Sunday. I think we'll finish top 4/5. Im bullish that RA is the guy that will get us back to the top. Unless relegation is a real threat (it won't be) I want RA to get the whole season and then the management can make a decision if hes the guy to lead us into 2026/27.
