If we have to make example of Garnacho so be it.

If he wants rot thats his problem.

Rather pay price for him than making us soft touch. Again this is about changing culture within club and becoming ruthless to a degree when it arises.

Great talent, but a Fergie, Klopp or Jose would not put up with that. Out the door if right price comes or else ya train away there in corner like good lad.

Yeah it's a damn sight easier to make an example of Garnacho on £50k a week than Sancho on £300k.

Still though as much as I'd like to punish his petulance by letting him rot, we need to rid the club of these attitudes. I don't want him still living in Manchester, still socialising with the players, still lurking around Carrington etc.

You'll get those like Shaw who seemingly are glad to see the back of the "Bomb squad" but you'll also have people who were his mates in the squad sympathising with him rather than being 100% behind the manager.

Gotta get rid of them all even if it is at a financial detriment. We can stick Garnacho in the reserves for a year, pay his wages throughout, and then after a wasted year his value will only be worse.

If Utd have a chance of signing Donnarumma they should be all over it. A massive upgrade on what's there at the moment. Honestly if Utd go into the season with Onana as first choice then all the other signings will have been for nothing and Amorim doesn't see out the season imo. It's not Onana is a bad goalkeeper, it's that he's not a keeper at all. Lacks any of the basics. Worst signing ever imo.

New 3rd shirt reminiscent of 93.

Fully agree with DrP. Taking a financial hit in the short term will be worth it to get rid of Garnacho, Sancho and Rashford. Those characters are toxic and all we've heard from preseason is that the squad is much happier and all behind the boss. If one of them were to be left "rot in the reserves" well that means they are still in the players WhatsApp group, they are still meeting the players for lunch/dinner regularly, they are still there undermining things the manager/management team are doing. Anyone that's ever been a manager be it a football team, a sales team, a warehouse team will know that all it takes is one person with the wrong attitude to poison an entire team of people. Getting rid of those people is half the battle, so good riddance to Garnacho and his social media fans

I'd take what we can get for Sancho and Garnacho, but Antony I would bring back and sit on the bench/in the stands, rather than let him go on loan to Betis again.

I wouldn't answer the damn phone to Betis at this point.

The white away last year was a beaut, but think that's even better

Did I read somewhere it's a homage to Cantona? Think I might get one, that and the home kit are nice, not pushed on the white one, don't like the gray-scale colouring.

Can we afford not to sell him. We need the money. He'll get his move and good riddance.

Great to have a happy squad before a ball is kicked in anger. We've seen and heard plenty of this nonsense before. I'd rather they showed it on the pitch especially Shaw. He has more to prove than anyone

Well we seem have money. I would rather him just go but at same time I would not be taking **** from him either.

He wants to go, thats fine. But United should fight for good price or at very least get good sell on/bonus etc.

I didn’t question his mentality but highlighted that every game he plays will be watched very closely because it’s Man United and it wouldn’t take long for it to show if he’s good enough or not. I also said at club level. It would be a global scrutiny vs his time at Milan. Onana also appears to be mentally strong and isn’t short of confidence but that hasn’t actually helped.

    IMG_1798.jpeg

Comparing Donnarumma with Onana but also the goalkeepers of the teams 4th through to 7th last season highlights some issues. Particularly with the aerial side of things. Save percentage isn’t as good as you’d expect from a ‘massive upgrade’ and neither is goals prevented from expected goals.

People can say they’re not interested in the stats and prefer the eye test but if your eye test isn’t anymore than a few champions league games last season, it’s not worth much.

We face a lot of crosses and set pieces and this thread would go into meltdown if he’s consistently poor at facing them. If he’s letting in more goals than you’d expect him to concede (which he currently is) it will be reported on heavily every week.

It’s obvious that Onana needs to go but not that obvious that Donnarumma is the right one to go for. It’s been reported today that United aren’t expected to go for him anyway. I would trust them on that.

It's the firsts player I think of when I see that Viewcam jersey.

Yes. Talk is cheap. Didn't he lay down tools before. Was it under LVG?

It seems strange to me that we haven't been linked with Pope, think he'd just be a no nonsense signing that you might get for cheap (less than 1 year in his contract). Not the best with his feet but with the back three it might not matter as much.

Obviously dealing with Newcastle may be difficult at the moment but might be worth a go.

    yep.
We need to replace Onana, but just as we can say we needed to repalce DDG but Onana has not been the right pick - we can potentially say we need to replace Onana but Donnarumma is probably not the right pick.

Well if they want money for Baleba they'll have to make sales. They can supposedly borrow money but I'm sure any sales makes it better because you then borrow less money on credit.

I'd let him go on loan again but it's a loan with an obligation to buy and a nice chunk of change as the loan fee. The club may well have to make sales before next July to balance books for PSR. Antony goes into the last year of his contract next summer which probably halves whatever value the club have of him.

If Betis are willing in the end to do a loan with the terms of a loan that favour United take it. Don't cut your nose to spite your face.

Calling Donnarumma a massive upgrade sounds like exaggeration.

That he is an upgrade on Onana is a given. And that's nothing special. Many, many keepers could be described as the same.

Donnarumma has shown a tendency for quite alarming errors in recent seasons, which point to some fundamental weaknesses in his game. That he would want to swop PSG (with everything great and positive that's happening there) for more $$$ elsewhere could also indicate a red flag. United have been burned in those type of scenarios before.

The GK position is a concern of course, but we probably need to be patient to resolve all the problem areas. Expecting all the squad issues to be resolved in one window is unrealistic.

Heaton and Bayindir with a fairly solid defence in front of them may be enough in the short-term.

A CM should be our priority next.

100%. they caved to rashford and he got the move he wanted that didnt suit the club.

i think with garnacho (given only 2.6m per year) we should take a stand, and set an example to other players going forward.

we will sell you to chelsea for fair market value - 40 - 50m (with considerable addons). else, you can stay here, train on your own and miss a world cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,049 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Bayindir should be nowhere near a starting XI. He makes Onana look like a good keeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

How has the Rashford move not suited the club? It's quite obvious the management wanted him gone and he is. He can go play 25 mins a week for Barca and let the English press big up his 8 goals and 5 assists and either Barca buy him outright or a PL or Saudi team will buy him next summer. His loan is definitely a win for the club

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,049 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Also gets his massive wages off the books for this season which some have said has helped in getting deals done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Yep I didnt even mention the wages too. Just because its the move the player wanted doesn't mean its a bad deal for the club

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭waywill1966

They’d have to have a collar on it for a proper Cantona homage!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,338 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Door is wide open for him to leave. Hell we should even pay for his taxi. But if Chelsea want him they pay a reasonable price. If not throw in big bonus and sell on.

No way should a player wanting to leave win out to throw a tantrum. If he wants move he moves with United being happy with a outcome that suits them.

Garnacho should be happy to leave if we are treating him that poorly. Poor fella.

Well the club better have a word with Amorim who likely created this scenario by telling Garnacho he better hope a new club comes in for him this summer. Did they except clubs to come running with fistfuls of money for a player that was told he wasn't wanted anymore.
