Google "Sesko 2024/2025 goals youtube" and watch a 4 min video of his g&a last season. He's extremely good at the whole football thing.

that could well be a mark robins moment

United fans are incredibly patient. Hojlund got 2 years of being the worst striker in the PL and still had his fans.

The concern more than anything is he seems to lack any sort of explosive movement. Just wandering around losing all his duels. He was the worst player on the pitch against Grimsby and god awful in all his cameos.

I really hope it’s just nerves and a lack of fitness.

I don't care if it's VAR or the backside of a player, we won and dominated that game from start to finish. Get in there.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

the brains trust need to kick into gear now. desperately need a CM, casemiro looks (and is) so so slow.

and then a keeper of course

Out all day so couldn't see the match.

    Check phone 90+4 2-2.....

    20 minutes later HOLYYYY ****!

From what I'm reading we were the much better side? A bit unlucky?

I did like his new style of putting the feet up for the penalty 😂

Should have scored 4 or 5. Attack wise our patterns of play are light years ahead of last year. So we'll score goals but need another DM now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,691 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Yeah, let’s do the reasonable thing and judge him in a United shirt. It’s gonna take some time before we know the score.

I was just typing up a scenario where Bruno moved back to 10 with Mount and Mainoo in the middle but now Amorim has confirmed Mount is injured. That's just fcuking desperate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭Caustic

Ya he probably isn't up to speed yet and looked it tbh but you have all and sunder ask why he isn't starting, I'm sure he will be at the least fine very soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭DataDude

Surely because Amorim is under incredible pressure. Absolutely needed a win today. Mount has consistently been our best player at false 9 and Sesko has consistently been our worst player when he comes on.

Sure he might come good but he needs to get up to speed in training. Amorim doesn’t have the luxury of letting him get up to speed in must win games?

The real alraming weakness lies in the critical zone between 6 and 9 or 10 yards around the penalty box. Too often, we see goalkeepers exposed not just by their own hesitations or frailties, but because the midfield screen in front of them lacks both legs and awareness. Opposing runners from deep with late surges into the box... are consistently going untracked or half tracked, and that’s where games are being lost. This could be the system, I dunno

Players like Ugarte, Mainoo, or even Casemiro don’t quite solve this issue. Ugarte has bite but not the transitional speed; Mainoo offers composure but not the defensive energy, he's slow; Casemiro, at this stage of his career, can no longer cover the ground required. What’s needed is a defensive midfielder with the same energy levels and dynamism that players like Amad, Mbeumo, Cunha, and Mount bring in advanced areas… but applied to the core of midfieeld. Someone who can anticipate danger early, cover ground aggressively, and recycle possession efficiently. What Ugarte was supposed to be.

It’s not just about shielding the backline, it’s about providing that energetic pivot who can both suffocate the crap out of opposition counters and keep tempo in transition. Kante style. Without that, the team will continue to be vulnerable where most matches are decided

    Could Martinez does this?

Ya That's what I was saying too in case it got lost in translation, I don't think he will be that bad long term but needs to get up to speed and also in synch with his team mates. You can see the one touch passing is coming with the lads who are on the pitch the whole time.

Did anyone hear what injury Mount picked up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,961 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Van der Sar Sar played into his 40s. So did Buffon and Mark Schwarzer. Amongst several others.

Being 39 can hardly be a greater crime than what we are seeing from the other two guys. Thank goodness we got away with it today

Zirkzee was very off the pace when he joined and gradually got used to the league and more up to speed. Likely same with Sesko

Seems Zirkzee needs a few games to knock the rust off again also

Hope Cunha and Mount aren't out for long. At least it's the intl break

Tom Heaton had played 3 games in the last 5 years. He is not any sort of solution.

A new keeper is absolutely essential but if it came down to either a keeper or legs in midfield, it has to be legs in midfield. We will keep getting overrun otherwise.

Amorim had to acknowledge though that stability is key now and to get there he needs to alter things tactically. 4-2-3-1 until we can build a foundation. Will mean rotating Mbeuno, Cunha, Fernandez, Diallo Mount and Sesko for 4 positions and hopefully delivering a running midfielder

Was talking to a season ticket holder recently and he was of the impression, speaking to others in a similar boat, that Martinez has been earmarked as that DM when he returns

We are averaging over 20 shots a game so far. It's night and day how we are playing compared to last season.

The worry is that everyone wants a number 6 and there are very few of the level needed. The higher ups may just be thinking that the team will have to make do until next Summer and reassess.

Hey, its a win which is the most important thing right now As Roy Keane said in conversation with G. Neville recently, the most fundamental thing this coach needs to figure out is how to win games. Win ugly, or win at a canter doesnt really matter at this point - just Win.

Losing has become a far too predictable and familiar habit for this team during the last year so I'm glad for the 3 points today. I'm not a big fan of Amorim and have frequently criticized him here and will continue to question him.

But we really needed to get 3 points on the board and in fairness it was a deserved victory today

Amorim looks like he's broken. Every time the camera cuts to him, he seems miserable and depressed. There's nothing animated about him - it's not anger or frustration. He just looks so fed up and sad. I don't recall ever seeing anything like it.

Genuinely think he's in a bad place mentally and I wonder if he needs to step away for his benefit more than anything.

ETH always maintained he doesn't have the engine for DM.

There was plenty of times he was animated on the sideline….ever think maybe they cut to him at the exact times he sits and just watches on purpose like they do with a dropped or subbed player?

While the amateur psychological assesment is amusing to read, it's also a bit weird !!

What was Shaw at for the first Burnley goal?

Martinez better be back to his best when he gets back, Shaw just can't be relied on. Not sure he is good enough to be a CB at this stage of his career and he doesn't have the legs to get forward and break lines like Yoro or Maz would from CB, which is needed in this formation.

at least we are now getting 20 shots per game, and no longer conceding 20. still, that needs to be converted to points right quick. amorim has no credit left in the bank.

Yeah think Amorim is managing it perfectly. He’s not even close to up to speed for the prem. Give him cameos and then start him against league 2 opposition to try build confidence. Ideally we’d have been 2 or 3 up today when he came on.

With Cunha and Mount for a while he’ll probably get a few starts which I don’t envision going too well.
