i dont know if martinez can be relied upon any more. i suppose we'll see in a few months. missed 100 games the last 3 seasons.

say 10 for argentina, so 90 for us out of ~150 games or 60% roughly of games missed since he arrived.

Surely these injuries make the club get the finger out with buying a midfielder!!

did he release a statement? would be curious to know if there was any thanks to the club or fans for their support the last few years.

Chelsea are second in the league in shots per game with 14.7.

United are first with 19.3. Arsenal 13.5. Liverpool and City 12.

If you said pre season that would be the case after 3 games and Amorim was joint favourite to be next manger sacked at the same time, I’d have said it’s impossible. Mad world.

We have the combined highest xG with Chelsea too. Whilst the stat in and of itself can be misleading you'd also expect that surely there is going to come a point where we are going to start scoring freely.

Crucial three points today and well deserved. The fact that there’s not much being said about yet another goalkeeping error says it all really. I mean it’s incredible at this level that we’re almost expecting it now.

Third on expected points. Liverpool 15th on 2.2.

    Here’s hoping…

Someone posted a vid on reddit of Cunha walking freely out of the stadium with no strapping etc. Fingers crossed.

If ever a game summed up our need for an athletic, intelligent and disciplined No 6 type midfielder it was today. When the forwards are misfiring teams like Burnley will always 'have a go'. They feel they can get something out of it as we don't have the legs to protect our defence.

If we don't get someone in by Monday - and I'm not asking for a clone of Makelele here - it's pure negligence from the club and it will likely cost Amorim his job. If we try and it on the cheap by shoving Martinez in there, then forget it.

As for Mount, what was the point in keeping him? He's going to get injured every season, so let another club deal with it. Same with Shaw, you just know he'll be crocked again soon. We can't afford to keep players like that in the squad.

Big positive today for me was we probably would have lost that game last season. I try to be a half glass full person but it's impossible when I look at our midfield. Our season hangs on what happens in the transfer market over the next couple of days.

I've said it before but Collyer even as an option off the bench for DM is a loss given our situation.

The fact there's no midfielders remotely linked at the moment would be a worry.

Club's have pulled off surprise deals in the past, but in this day and age the likes of Ornstein or Ramano usually have some insight to potential transfers and it's all quiet in terms of midfielders & United.

The real discussion is why the club spent €76m on a striker who is apparently not even close to being up to speed, when what the team and the manager desperately needed was a striker to come in and start contributing immediately.

The club started this window in desperate need of a striker, a goalkeeper, a midfielder and some proper wingbacks.

If Sesko isn't ready, then that means they didn't sort any of those positions. And that is basically negligent.

they should activate the 35m euro release clause for the valencia lad. there was talk of him a few weeks back.

but they absolutely need to get someone in.

A pic of hom sitting on an advertising hoarding in Chelsea colours. Reminiscent of the famous one with himself, Kobbie and Rasmus.

just saw it on romano with the following quote:

“It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club”.

“I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special, we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here”.

That’s fair. I’m extremely concerned by the early signs on Sesko, but I’d say the club are very surprised too at how ‘not ready’ he is. Not part of the plan.

Look at Wirtz. Arguably the most sought after player in the world and bookies favourite for player of the season. I’d have backed him too. He’s been absolutely woeful in the first two games. Adaption to a new league can be hard to predict.

The only slam dunk striker moving this summer is Isak. And fair to say he’d not have been interested in the move.

The over reaction of our fans (and it seems every other football fan) in the country to everything United do is infuriating. People moaning Sesko isn’t starting and then writing him off because he’s clearly not up to speed yet both with his new teammates and fitness wise. Jesus relax a bit. (We absolutely need a centre mid though)

    Sesko will be fine.

We're actually creating a lot of chances.

We're joint top on xg apparently.

Got three points today. Everything else is just noise

Seskos naturally looked a bit rusty but he’s getting a few efforts away and had 2 decent headed chances today, his leap for the first one was impressive. Hes making striker runs our previous wasn’t making. Remember Hojlund going matches without even getting a shot away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 582 ✭✭✭Seattle

Tbf Sesko had two headed chances. There was one where he slightly mistimed it and headed it over and then he glanced a better chance wide.

He's been virtually non existent with regards chances with the ball on the ground.

But it's not unusual for young strikers to be streaky. He could go 5 or 6 games being very quiet and then score a hatful. I think he was like this at Leipzig. It's very early days to judge him.

Pretty sure at the end of a post match interview I heard Ruben say Mount played injured for 30 mins, baffling he was left on if this was the case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭DataDude

I hope you’re right, but I don’t think it’s that simple. I don’t go with blind faith, especially with our transfer record.

Plenty of people were adamant Hojlund would come good.

After 3-4 games I said Zirkzee looked like he didn’t have the tools to be a striker for Man United. I was lept on with people pointing out he was top class in Serie A. Only just joined etc. here we are and all those early red flags still very much exist.

The warning signs with Antony were all there within a few games. He was the same player a year later that he was after 5 games

Some players adapt and come good. Some don’t.

Very early days on Sesko but on the very limited sample size we have, the signs are concerning. He’s started slower than Hojlund and probably on par with Zirkzee. He could absolutely turn out to be world class still, but it’s been a remarkably slow start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭DataDude

Mount obviosuly just couldn’t bring himself to go down injured again after 15 minutes. Could probably hear the groans of the crowd in his head. Only told medical staff at HT

Poor lad is mentally scarred by his injuries. Remember him getting very emotional last time he went down just after returning.

Not the wisest to try to play on but totally understand and respectable to do so

Think you missed the joke 😃

But anyways , 2 of the 3 keepers you mentioned were exceptionally good, and were able to be still "good" as they neared 40, Heaton was never in their territory hence him being a 3rd choice to 2 terrible keepers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭Ultimate Gowlbag

You think he told the bench after 15 mins that he was injured and they just ignored it…..with his record??

It's too early to judge Sesko really.

Zirkzee is more of a number 10 anyway and was just a back up striker.

    I never rated Antony anyway.

I knew he'd fail. Just too limited in too many areas. If we signed him for 30 or 40m, the consensus would've been that he was worth a gamble.

Hojlund was very good in patches in his first season but actually got worse over time.

I'm not sure what will become of him.

According to Leipzig fans, Sesko is inconsistent and raw but has moments of class.

My hope is that he'll get so many chances that he'll score enough goals to keep his confidence up and everyone else's confidence up so that in time he'll develop to be too class.

He's definitely not the finished article though.
