Doesn't try youth? He's played Chido, Heaven, Yoro, Garnacho, Fredickson, Mainoo to varying degrees over the past 12 months. Compare that to any other PL team and it stacks up very well.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Villa are in for a huge drop off and soon there are scoring a ridiculous amount of goals from outside the box. And creating very little elsewhere

Ironically the supposed plan in the summer window was to target Premier League proven.

Hence prioritising Mbeumo & Cunha. And Amorim allegedly preferred Martinez & Watkins to Lemmens & Sesko.

But we've pinned our hopes on a manager with not only no Premier League pedigree but not even a top league pedigree. And that seems to be the main issue.

Yes we know Amorim has done well in Europe with Sporting too, notably the defeat of City just before he came.

But he has excelled in a weak league where he could get away with being 1 dimensional in terms of formation. Now he's come to England and very clearly has no plan B whatsoever.

Yes the squad is weak, but if that's the case then you need to adjust something else. If you can't call on better players to improve your lot, then you have to use better tactics. The big fuss has that he's not willing to adjust, but the longer we struggle, the more it genuinely seems that he's not capable.

As I mentioned before, Tuchel & Glasner are known for using a 3 man back line, but both have demonstrated a willingness and ability to adjust to suit their formation and tactics when required.

There’s merit to all of those points but I think the inflexible thing is a little overstated , he has changed his system from time to time and to be fair he has said himself that he’s trying to build an identity and consistency is a big part of that.

On youth I’m hoping it’s a case of him managing their development and that he will use the younger players when he thinks they’re good and ready. To throw them into an unsettled team before that might be counter productive.

Look Im impatient myself, I want to see signs of improvement ( there’s been a lot of improvement imo) and success as much as anyone but we’ve had massive instability at this club for over ten years and I just think it’s unrealistic to expect it all fixed in twelve months from a manager coming to a new country and a new league given all the challenges mentioned in an earlier post that he’s had to contend with.

The not giving youth a chance doesn't really fly it's just not the players people want. I mean he started heaven last night who is 19, been playing yoro consistently since he became manager. Gave fredicrson a game in the carabo, and obi got games last season (might have been because of injuries) but someone said it wouldn't have happened under him.

People are just pissed he won't play mainoo

we should do what real do. if a manager aint good enough, get rid. real focus on 1 thing, and thats winning ****.

18 managerial changes in 22 years.

i know we want the romantic story of amorim, and it may yet be. being pragmatic, he needs to be sacked.

In a league that's mostly dominated by 2 clubs for god's knows how long, it's not the basis id go off personally

If Mason Mount had his wits about him he would have forced the ref to do something by leaving the ball go out of play.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Only Liverpool, City and Arsenal have taken more points than Aston Villas Emery since he joined the club, 94 games is a nice length of time to judge him and he is comfortably top 4.

This season he has only spent 30m. Has a misfiring striker but all 4 goals midweek came inside the box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭Caustic

I should have expanded on that point tbf, he has done a great job since he came, but there position and game play this season isn't sustainable like spurs earlier in the season and unless he can change it they are in for a major drop off like outside Europe places drop off.

Managers get mentioned plenty on how well they are doing, but if irolas bouremouth form continues his name will stop being mentioned, no one was talking about glasner this time last season and if villa finish out the top 8 he probably won't be wanted by many.

Villa are playing really poor football this year worst under emery but have grinded out wins in a very unsustainable way, best game was probably the last one so maybe he is turning it, I just don't think if anyone has watched all villas games this season they would be wanting emery is all.

But I did explain myself poorly late last night and I do expect a major drop off but he has done a great job on main and what you say about villas transfer business is true

Amorim beat Emery so that's a no from me.....

    Joking obviously 😁

Il say this after half hour I'd take villas pressing structure, work rate and slyness in blocking runs off the ball

Not sure we would be able to pull off constantly playing out from the back under pressure

I take it all back emery in,

Oh ok, he'll play Arsenal academy players, great - hope we sign a few more of those so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,440 ✭✭✭Quags

Can take the managers ideas all we want but be still stuck with the same set of players that sometimes look like they don’t understand what to do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,457 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

But it's not the players either, there's none of the team under Moyes left, probably none left from Van Gaal or maybe when we shift Shaw we'll finally be free from mediocrity.

It's deeper than the manager or players, we keep changing both and ending up in the same place. It's why so many of us were keen to stick with a manager (myself included) but he's been making too many of the same mistakes over and over ie. system, team selection, man management, motivation, communication - all have been consistently poor at this point.

I hate to invoke Buckety but he made some bad mistakes form the beginning from a man management standpoint (the worst Manchester United team in history stuff).

The almost denigartaion of players rather than the more typical outward support you'd expect from your manager. Even now, his reposnse to the Kobbie stuff is, Kobbie's not so hot you know, churlish nonsense.

You have to build your players up in public but by all means shift them on as you are. I don't think any of the squad particularly like or trust him at this point.

Maybe Amorim is not all that after all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭Caustic

Ya this is very true and something I wonder about at times, I do wonder about our players footballing IQ at times.

On the flip side of that coin we have had a big turnover of players over the last while too so can we blame the players.

I think when I see mount and mebeumo on the pitch they look like clever players who do things right a lot not many others give me that feeling

Excellent play from Sancho that lead to the Villa winner.

We are so far off both the teams in Villa and Arsenal today

I really stayed backing Amorim but Everton was a line in the sand. To me, there is no real difference from last season except we have a couple of better players now and a bit more motivation / still have a reason to play for unlike last season which was a write off. Our decent PL results are similar to our Europa League wins for me when the team were motivated to get a result. The win v Palace was lucky enough and puts a gloss on things, Palace were very tired. Plus we are putting these performances in with only one game per week to prepare for

What is really sickening is the fact we are only 11 points off top place with a game in hand.

When you think of all the stupid points we have thrown away it’s no wonder there is so much frustration.

How we can’t bring intensity to the game regardless of tactics is the hardest part to stomach.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭Caustic

Ya That's fair and if you looked at the table and watched today's game you say I was mad.

But we are playing wolves on Monday a non negotiable win and villa were lucky to beat them would probably have lost only for a dodgy disallowed goal and a wonder save from martinez.

Also wouldn't have much complaints if they hasn't won against leeds.

They will do better against teams that press them high at times like Brighton and arsenal when they get it right and they did for the most part today but there problem, like our problem, and a few other teams is when teams sit back and they have to break them down.

I've seen listened and followed a lot of villa games this year (fpl stuff) and they have been far from good. But deserve their credit today they were immense at times and id love to see united die to score a goal at the end like they did.

Maybe they have turned the corner and I look stupid but I think they are over performing like I did with spurs earlier in the season

I've seen listened and followed a lot of villa games this year (fpl stuff) and they have been far from good.

Yet sit in 3rd only 3pts behind Arsenal. The sign of a well coached good team winning games when not playing at their best.

Just very very lucky sure. Constant top side since emery came in.

    It’s a shame that we’re just as sh*t, can’t fully enjoy it 😂

Ah ya can, title champs last season, half a billion spent in the summer, breaking summer transfer signings twice and still ****.

    We're just ****.

compared to last year we've upgraded to fancier manure that might be useful instead of regular dogshíte.

To turn the champions into shìte is an amazing achievement.

The winner coming from an attacking player subbed on in place of a defender. Absolutely mad tactical change from Emery. Amorim would probably bring a CB on for a CB.
