Mira 88 mixer leaking ..what alternative options?

This is leaking when fully open and dripping on bottom floor..

How can i remove and replace it ? Or tiles have to come off? Any good alternate mixers/fittings anyone can recommend? Thanks

thanks yes photo taken after removing everything(casing/panel). Do you think its worth the hassle to service (as per the page €470) or replace.. thanks

There are shower repair companies in Dublin that will replace the whole unit for under €500 parts and labour. Not only the inner parts but you get a brand new faceplate and dial. That's pretty good value considering you'd be looking at another 20 to 30 years lifespan.

Mira don't make good electric showers but they always made great quality cartridge showers, like the 88

thanks i have ordered the kit and plan to give it a go..else will replace whole unit..can i check how can i get rid of the white cap on top…I have tried hot water and some wiggle but no joy..

managed to get it out after pouring hot boiling kettle and some wd40 .. installed in 1999 !!

Glad I did not give up ! Managed to change the seals and replace servicing parts using repair kit ! As good as brand new

What is best way to ensure i can put something around the head so water comes into shower if it leaks again in future rather than dripping down into the wall cavity?

I had to seriously convinced my bathroom fitters to use a Triton electric shower, they were pushing Mira all the way - do they have good installer incentives?

This is for a power shower with gas heated hot rather than full electric though.

As for a Mira 88, I used the service kit plus a replacement dial on the one I had before and it continued to work perfectly until I replaced the bathroom. 1998 to 2023. I'm fairly sure a new faceplate and dial to fit what the OP has (and cover the hole) are still available from Shower Doctor; I got mine from Modern Plant as they were still the supplier then.

The problem with bathroom fitters is they usually don't use plumbers. You might find the tiler does all the work. Because they fit only the don't know what is a good shower and what isn't. It's the shower repair company that knows what showers fail quicker than others.

As I saw they most likely won't pay proper tradesmen to do the job but it's very important that they use a REC for all electric work in the bathroom. They need to have all of this work certed

i have the plates and cap…issue is the inner valve is not covered with anything to stop drips going into cavity

Anyone knows where to get this end of plastic pipe for shower outlet which broke.or i have to replace full pipe all the way to shower head? Dont want to remove tiles.thanks

It's qualpex pipe. You will need to add a straight connector to add a small bit of pipe. Unless you are very lucky & the remaining pipe is long enough to reach the shower fitting

First one is a compression fitting and second one a push in. Both would be easier than the crimp one you listed imo.

Not quite. It's for joining two pieces of pipe together. You will need a small piece of pipe coming out the end then a nut and ring to attach to the shower in the wall.

Pretty difficult without breaking tiles. What is on the other side of the wall? Might be easier to cut out a square of plaster board on the other side of the wall. It would be easier to patch up the plasterboard than the tiles
