WInd picking up here . Not much rain at all, just occasional drops. The rain from must be near if it's heavy rain in Arklow.

GFS has been showing strong winds running up through the country overnight on and off over a few previous runs, the 18Z has v strong winds as can see below, will be interesting to see if it verifies, has it picked up a feature that the others haven't ?

Really picked up here near Rathdrum in the past 30 minutes or so. The direction of the wind is blowing the heavy rain directly on the Velux so it sounds even worse than it actually is

Better to alert than not, folk were very miffed that they weren't informed about the snow. if MÉ want to err on the side of caution thats understandable probably.

It doesnt look that bad really.

Gusts unlikley to top 105kph it seems.

Cork/Kinsale area looks like it will see the strongest winds around 8am - 10am.

For those of us in the SE, there are some squally features in that heavy rain passing over at the moment and it's producing some locally strong winds at times but once that passes on it will likely calm down a bit. Another hour or so should see the worst of it through.

Your heaviest winds will be in the afternoon and winds will be stronger through sunday then they are now.

Also the rain on monday will be much worse than any point over this weekend.

So the worst is ahead really, on both the wind and rain front.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Yes true, good clarification. I didn't mean that it would calm down for the weekend, but just the worst of the rain front where there are some squally elements making it seem worse is all.

Yep further warnings ⚠️ will most likely be in force on Monday

For rain, yes. And Wedeesday also for the west and south.

No respite for the farmers in the south west.

Rain pretty much passed here in Waterford city, the odd spit only. Wind is slowly picking up.

Filthy night near Tullamore. Calmed down in last half hour.

A few trees down already. Spinalus Tapus Buxus. High drama yes but no big deal to upright them as they're in big pots.

At 0500 highest gusts so far were at Casement (0300) 96 km/hr, but looks to be about to exceed 100 over exposed coastal areas soon.

At 0600, Sherkin 76 gusting to 100 km/hr, the sustained value is perhaps more impressive. Valentia gusting to 91.
