First of all, the Van is to get fixed, if the 15k is them giving you a price to pay cash then its something 99% of us would not have to pay out, so you need to go through your insurance, they will get their garage to tally up the damage.

If it does come to 15k (maybe more as garages add every little thing on), let me tell you... you didn't just "nudge" them

Let your Insurance now look into it, its with their solicitor so its out of your hands really, its what the insurance is for and why we pay it.

Forget about it and move on, the claim can take years, if you have step back or claims protection you should not be too bad.

I slid on back ice into a path last year, 10k of damage ( I had to go through insurance but local garage could have fixed for 3k), I had step back which brought me back to 75%, renewal time and it only went up by 120, and with haggling I got it down to 30 extra over the year.

over the few years put money aside to cover the extra insurance..you never know you might not need it all

If I’ve misread ignore me but..

it appears Op you have not contacted your insurer about this? That’s very foolish of you.

I dare say that solicitor knows the same and is rubbing his hands together with delight at the prospect of an easy payout.

Insurers have enough experience and resources to handle these situations. You do not and you’re going to end up bankrupt or worse if you carry on trying to avoid the inevitable.

ring your insurance yesterday and let them take over dealing with it. Do not engage yourself anymore!!!

A replacement bumper bar about 170-250, New bumper 500 -700, Repray bumper and fit 600.

I think 1500 would be max cost.

That's the first priority let insurance know quickly

And let them deal with it

Madness to be making any private deals with randommers when you have insurance

  • Registered Users Posts: 827 ✭✭✭studdlymurphy

I thought the same thing. They had my insurance details and name and that's all. I called the insurance and they have not received any word so I gave the solicitors details to them to deal with. I told them all that happened and told them there is only plastic work damage to may car which I'm happy to get fixed myself as its so minor.

I did not give my address, we exchanged phone numbers and insurance details that is all. Should their solicitor have been able to get my address? Is that some sort of breach of privacy

Not 100% certain, but I think solicitors have a way of getting contact details from Motor Tax (county council). I am not sure how compliant such is with GDPR. Looks odd.

Even if the solicitor contacted uour insurance company, they would not give out your details.

You have done the right thing informing your insurance company.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,296 ✭✭✭tomhammer..

Motor tax wouldn't give out an address like that

Isn't there a method of getting it through a garage . I don't think a solicitor would go that route

  • Registered Users Posts: 979 ✭✭✭GavPJ

Solicitors can apply to the county council that owners is registered in and get contact details.

I had to get a solicitors to do it for me over a false claim.

  • Registered Users Posts: 979 ✭✭✭GavPJ

Solicitors can apply for the owners details and get them from County Councils.

Mine did this for me last year over a false claim that is pending. It took a week or so

    to get the details.

My wife has an identical bump. Extra damage appeared when inspected a week later and it cost 104 thousand euro. The world is full of scammers, no matter what they say to your face.

A two week holiday in the sun will fix that for them. Just move on and let the insurance company deal with it OP.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,296 ✭✭✭tomhammer..

Thats for yourself a solicitor working for you

It would be surprising to me if a solicitor can get some randommers address from the Coco

Edit; my bad misread that . So a solicitor can get someone's address off the Coco

I'm very surprised hear that if true

😁 There was a great story here onetime about a replacement bumper that ended up costing c. 250k on insurance

Some expensive sportscar if I recall

So in effect that thread you started yesterday about when you drove without tax last Sunday and got caught you were also driving without insurance.

That's a very serious mistake to make that could have massive consequences for you, your family and others.

Aviva pays out without motor tax anyway

I know cos I had an investigator out over an incident he saw the tax out

    Claim was paid

There was no consequences for me either my premium actually went down next renewal

Thats what I recalled hearing years ago, pre GDPR. I thought it may have become more difficult since then. I guess they can claim legitimate interest.

Normally a solicitor would do this where they did not have insurance policy details. With them, it's more straightforward to go to company and initiate the claim that way.

With information posted, this makes me think claimants are chancing their arms and have a solicitor that will facilitate them.

    How do you infer that?

It's entirely possible to have insurance transferred to new car immediately on purchase, and before driving it. It's not possible to arrange tax as quickly.

I have no idea what you are posting about or what relevance it has to this thread

No tax is not an insurance issue. No licence or NCT is

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,857 ✭✭✭Rows Grower

It must be a new rule brought out by one insurance company, I've never heard of it before and would imagine it could be challenged in court.

I know a guy that crashed his car a few weeks ago and wrote it off, he was bagged and over the limit. He bought a brand new car last week out of his insurance pay out.

I'm well aware insurance can be transferred immediately Kaisr.

I was replying to Raichu who knows exactly what I am talking about, you could know too if you looked up the thread from yesterday.

Rear Panel, Boot Floor Section, Tailgate Lock, Tailgate Lock Striker, Hinges, L/H & R/H Rear Chassis Rails.

It is really easy to start racking up a big estimate with bits and pieces that "might" be damaged which we all know are not really damaged and never will be replaced even through insurance.

Who's not paying out over motor tax ?

Doesn't sound legit unless it's something they stipulate in the contract the way insurers do whatever they like here

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,857 ✭✭✭Rows Grower

Raichu claims his insurance company have it as a rule, I haven't a clue who he is with or if it's true.

Ya if true what I'm wondering is that something that can be legally challenged

Or can insurers stick whatever conditions they want in the contract

Poster above has stated tax is irrelevant

Thank you, I have no reason to go and read it.

Yes, but as they are travelling outside N.I., then to be covered down here, they are required be taxed, insured & MOT'd as if at home. Otherwise THEIR insurance is invalid, and then they are open to prosecution, here.

Their insurance usually only covers them for 30 days outside their jurisdiction per year, as well.

Are sure it is only plastic work damage to your car. Have you had it checked by a car repair specialist?

Ah I think I might have confused NCT with tax then 🤣

    never mind!!

Must be , insurers would be pushing it if they got away with that

Nct some require it some don't

Aviva anyway doesn't require an nct . Car has to be roadworthy
