Special night in St Anne's Church in Ballyshannon last night with Muireann Bradley ⛪

Wonderful setting, sound and performance. Towards the end Muireann was presented with one of the Rory Gallagher guitars, bought at auction and now residing in Ballyshannon, to play 🎸 Bigger things destined for 2025.

Also great to get a taster of another up and coming Donegal talent Chanel McGuinness. Look out for her forthcoming album 💿

Why would you do a gig on Sunday afternoon? So you can take your son to his first gig - aged 3. 😎

    Great start

Couldn't make this in the end as i woke up Saturday morning with a dose that got progessively worse through the day. By 6.30 i was floored. Only approaching some semblance of good health now. Hope you enjoyed it anyway!

I was originally going to see IDLES twice this weekend but I can't justify both shows now. They're playing the same set so it's not like I'll be missing anything.

Gigs '24 - Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball (Gomez), The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Electric Picnic, Pixies, Ride, Therapy?, Public Service Broadcasting, IDLES, And So I Watch You From Afar

Gigs '25 - Spiritualized, Supergrass, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Queens of the Stone Age, Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Getdown Services, And So I Watch You From Afar

It was different, I’ll give it that. It was also busy. Where do people develop a taste for folk drone and are there many bands meeting their needs?

Ezra Collective good fun in the Olympia tonight. Maverick Sabre guest vocalist. Got all the audience (3 levels) dancing for most of the gig. Seen them outside at ATN and now in the Olympia - think they would be great in a festival tent.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds last night were absolutely phenomenal. I've rarely been so engrossed by an act. It was utterly hypnotic and so wonderful. Two and a half hours of pure enjoyment and Cave had the crowd in the palm of his hand for every minute.

Love that there's more people with no phones in their hands, than with phones in their hands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,566 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

The odd person who had a phone in the front couple of rows, he slapped their phones away.

Saw a clip of him from a recent show and he gave the crowd 30 seconds to take photos and then they were to "put their fückíng phones away".

It was great on Tuesday, I did take a handful of pictures but my phone was away for the pretty much all of it and it seemed to be the case for a huge chunk of the crowd - the show was like a sermon - that said, there's always a few record everything heads. It was great.

Listened to Fire in Cairo for the last couple of days, not bad. Got to Whelan’s upstairs and they’re a Cure tribute band. A good one. So good one of the original members of the Cure was in the audience and played a song with them. I didn’t recognise it.

Forty years ago i moved to London. I’d pre booked a ticket to see The Cure in Wembley arena a couple of days after I landed. My ticket was for the last row at the back.
Tonight I was this close. 😎

Thought the musicians were very good, lead singer has the looks and moves but his voice was very dodgy at times, the songs where he actuallyhad to sing were poor. The song Hartley played on was Play for Today

    Hooky was a good time.

    JD set the standout.

He doesn't play the bass much, and a lot of the NO stuff is not live, but it's a better celebration of the music than seeing the band called New Order.

I just wish he'd tell more stories.

A complete legend and a massive amount of fun. cheeky bit of Monaco for the Shells fans too.

    It’s a bit OT but anyways…..

I now have two Ticketmaster apps on my phone. Which one do I get rid of?

One of them is probably called Ticketmaster IE, that's the obsolete one.

If it is due to recent upgrade check if you can see your events. Don't think you can see them anymore on the old one

Peter Hook & The Light were brilliant last night. Joy Division stuff was definitely the stand out. A cracking gig.

I saw him in The Academy about seven years ago and it was €25 in for three hours of New Order and Joy Division - almost punk rock at times. Saw New Order in Trinity a couple of years later and they were boring in comparison.

Hooky was great last night. Was a little disappointed at how little of the music was being played live on the New Order side. The Joy Division stuff was great though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 356 ✭✭T.V Eye

I had to laugh during the end of Blue Monday when the band put down their instruments, walked around and took a drink. I think a deliberate nod to the crowd. Honestly though, a lot of the New Order stuff kinda has to be done like that.

Enjoyable night, apart from about 30 minutes when a loud bunch of 4 or 5 dicks came in and thought it was a great idea to shout their conversation louder than the music. Thankfully they eventually f'ed away. Agree they the singers voice was hit and miss, better on the lower range.

Delighted to get to hear some of those songs live though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,995 ✭✭✭Mucker46

Those dicks were so annoying. Agree great to hear some of the songs and lower range definitely better.

10/10 for Dead Flesh in Fibbers. It dipped for about 30 seconds at one stage but the rest of their set was so good, they are forgiven.

Incredible mosh too. Will post later…..

Ibibio Sound Machine at Whelan's tonight were 75 minutes of great afro jazz funk non stop dancing! The stage could barely fit the 8 of them but they are a very good band and the audience was into it for every minute of it.

I got the feeling that the band arrived late in Dublin and this messed up the schedule for the evening. The doors opened at around 8:20 pm and the support act was scrapped completely. Ibibio came on stage at 9:20 and played until 10:35.

Great evening though and I hope they can get more famous and play bigger venues.

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Scissor Sisters, Nine Inch Nails, Stipe, The Rocky Horror Show, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

Califone were pretty good in the Grand Social tonight. Conjured up a vibe of desert and swamp at times, some Americana, a pinch of Disco, a dash of West Coast rock. A mellow feel to the evening but not necessarily mellow.
