Overhead, the Albatross in the Workman's Cellar last night. New album launch show. Superb

Glad to hear it. I was gutted I couldn't make it, hopefully it's not too long until their next gig. New album is (slightly inconsistent but overall) brilliant

Was at this myself. Saw them years ago and i found them a bit boring tbh but after recommendations here and a mate catching a bit of their set at ATN this year i figured i'd give them another chance. Visually impressive and an excellent drummer, there were a few moments i enjoyed but overall they left me cold. Doubt i'll bother with them again.

    I'm a Rock n Roll Amputation

They played ATN & were very good…in my opinion, anyhow.

Anyone at MJ Lenderman last night?

Yes, very good - nearly a two hour set. Sounds like they had a logistical nightmare in getting to Dublin (from Leeds). Had to borrow equipment as theirs hadn’t arrived.

MJ Lenderman and band amazing in Whelan's tonight. Last gig of the European leg of the tour, party atmosphere, the whole lot of them swamping pints of Guinness, necking Jameson, his parents there, bass players parents in law....nearly 2 hours of a set. Band were brilliant, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keys, pedal steel, fiddle, all sorts going on. Crowd totally up for it. Fantastic night.

Fab gig. He'll never play anywhere that small again

Lovely evening in Vicar Street with Bonny Light Horseman last night. Delayed start due to ferry crossing | Last night of tour for the band and great support act (Bridget Kearney) | A nice lively crowd - really made for a great gig.

First time seeing them live. Fantastic vocals and great musicians. What more could you ask for on a Sunday night in Dublin 😎

Wonderful evening at National Concert Hall with Anohni performing Lou Reed songs.

Anohni has worked with Lou Reed both in studio and in concerts so she probably understands the songs well and is familiar with them. Her voice is still sublime! Not all songs fit her voice - though it was really interesting to me that 2 of the highlights were 2 songs that Nico sang back then: Chelsea Girls and Femme Fatale. The latter especially suits Anohni's voice perfectly.

A great 6 piece band accompanied Anohni: solid musicians, they did Lou Reed's music justice. For the few songs that I remembered well, I felt that the arrangements were quite close to the originals.

A lovely concert and it picked my interest to look into Lou Reed's music in more detail.

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Scissor Sisters, Nine Inch Nails, Stipe, The Rocky Horror Show, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

Was at Anohni also, thought it was a very special experience. One small negative for me (middle of the stalls) was the sound mix for the first 2-3 songs, bit too much bass and couldn't really hear Anohni, but it got sorted. Great band, loved it when the drums and brass crashed a song upwards to a stage where you can't help moving your body along with them. I was familiar with most of the original Lou/V.U./Nico tracks and really liked Anohni's take on them. Her song about Lou, Sliver of Ice, at the end of the gig rounded the night off kind of perfectly.

Didn't spot Laurie Anderson, Steve Buscemi or any of the other cool celebs that it seems were there.

It often takes them ages to get the sound right in that place. I love the venue, but they often struggle with bands. Kamasi Washington was the worst indoor sound I've ever experienced. Ben Folds did a show there once, and it only improved after the interval. Glad it didn't take so long last night.

2025 Gigs and Events: Stuart Murdoch, Lyle Lovett, Stuart Murdoch, Wolf Alice, Camera Obscura, Rewind Festival, The Corrs/Imelda May/Natalie Imbruglia, Iron Maiden, Neil Young/Van Morrison, Lana Del Rey, Weezer, Sparks (x2), The Doobie Brothers, Billie Eilish (x2), Oasis, Sharon Van Etten, The Human League/Blancmange, Deacon Blue/Turin Brakes, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (x2), Nerina Pallot, Sleeper, Wolf Alice

2026 Gigs and Events: David Byrne, Metallica (x2)

Back from Manchester after seeing Sleep Token in the new co op live Arena. It was a brilliant performance by them with a basic enough stage/light configuration. 'Bilmuri' supporting was odd and we're pretty meh. Sleep Tokens 'look gothic but not' style is not for everyone but the lead singer 'vessel (Leo Faulkner)' had the crowd in the palm of his hands. 'Alkaline' and 'The Summoning' are class songs. Could definitely see them here eventually and it could sell well. A lot of Irish travelled/travelling over for the UK gigs

The Arena is pretty nice but as expected prices are not pretty but you can have a browse of the co-op mini store inside. Having the City game on the same time was a bit of a pain but wasn't too bad

Think people said they saw these earlier this week, that's a grim reality of touring

You'd really wonder why smaller foreign acts travel over here at all. I'm glad they do, but it seems a total write-off for them

    I was at her show.

As an ignoranant punter it boggles my mind to read it.

Ticket was 40 euro, the small venue was packed and the band had a very basic setup.

If you can't make a decent profit there I don't know how you can.

Transport be a huge cost, can't imagine accommodation, logistical management etc comes cheap. Surprised to hear it was 40 quid though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,486 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Mental. MJ Lenderman 18 euro Sunday night. How are they surviving? Full band. It'd make you want to punch everyone involved with the other end. My young lad splashed 250 on a couple of Lana tickets this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭TheDocMan

25e for ticket and 3e for booking -28e

Thats just depressing to read, such a great show and a dam legend at that

Ah. Spot on. I should have checked the receipts before posting that.

Lenderman would probably have bare bones'd it, no hotels, a sprinter van, venues that provide a hot meal so it's written in the guarantee, using the venues in house tech.

I know of bands who will rent amps and drums off the opening act to save money, or will ask for Nespresso pods in the rider and bring their own machine to keep costs down (2 Starbucks a day for 5-6 people adds up pretty quickly on expenses).

Also a lot of bands will balance the tours as a yearly expenditure, Frank Turner generally does 2 USA east coast tours to every 1 west coast and 2 UK tours to 1 mainland Europe tour, but the books would pretty much read the same if he didn't bother with Europe and the West coast.

True. The lads look like they've spent their lives sleeping in a car. And all the better for it.

The Unthanks last night in Liberty Hall was absolutely amazing. Not a note wrong. All songs from the new album but nobody minded. Hope they'll be back soon.

Did anyone catch the name of the support act? Something Davey Ensemble, I think but having trouble finding them on Google.
