Guy being interviewed reckons when they find a database of subscriptions they send out similar notices to customers. Meh. All seems very watery / makey uppy to create a media campaign.

Good point made about AI in the interview. AI taking copyrighted content and reproducing it is "being monitored" apparently. Sure it is 👀.

Anyone have any ideas how to stop firestick buffering, happened a lot during Sundays soccer match, I have fibre broadband so that's very fast but no VPN, should I get one? Fella told me he had that issue once and he got his router speed reduced and that got rid of the buffering on his

    Any ideas?

Great. There's multiples of the big channels with events so if one acts up, just try other one. Proper 4k on some channels.

    FACT can't raid anything.

They are a British Organisation which appear to have a few lads in Ireland working from home I imagine.

If they entered any shop, the shop are more than entitled to tell them GTFO and take their "legal notice" with them.

    That is called unsolicited spam.

Proton VPN have a free account option, and it has an Android app.

It doesn't let you choose country, but it works fine for getting around the ISP blocks no matter which country it puts you on.

Top drawer. Everything very snappy. Android app they provide is excellent with lots of customisation and good navigations. Lots of UHD. If no issues until Christmas gona get a Formuler box.

Just had a look on their site. Is this new?

    https://www.formuler.tv/z12ultra

    Nice spec on that!

Yeah it is, it's being released in a week or so. Very similar spec wise to the z11 so I won't be upgrading, nice remote though

An NBA pass in the US is $17 a month while Steph Curry is on $60 million a year. The NBA revenues are 50-60% high than the PL. Maybe they make more money because they are more affordable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,478 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

The population of the USA is 340 million, the population of the UK is 69 million. A premier league squad size is 25 players plus as many under 21s as you want, an NBA squad is 15, plus 3 who can play in the development league too. A premier league game will have plenty of ads before the match and after, but while it's being played there are none. An NBA game has about 18 ad breaks.

So in summary: The NBA is in a much, much bigger market. They have to pay less players and have way more opportunities for advertising revenue.

You're not comparing like with like.

Sports broadcasting is totally different in the US compared to here.

You have more games, more in game advertising, regional blackouts.

I doubt a Boston Celtics fan living in Boston can watch all, or even any of the Boston Celtic games on that NBA pass for $17 a month.

Ever heard of a VPN? You can easily be in Boston these days if you want to no matter where you are!

The NFL and MLB are the same. They both have bigger squads and more teams. Globally the premier League is getting audiences far superior to any of those leagues. They're also competing against each other. That's the real reason they're cheaper. The Americans also manage their sports better from a financial point of view. NBA give away lots of free content too in order to keep new fans coming.

The premier League is the dominant sport by Miles with no challenge to drop the price.

Yeah there's differences but really that's nit picking. We're talking about top level sport on a global level. The Americans aren't charities, their prices are low because they know they have to be to get viewers. If they hike the prices then they lose viewers.

The premier League know they are losing paying customers but won't offer better packages. Cut sky out. Put the show online and we don't have to pay murdock anymore.

Apparently extra storage good for recording. Im guessing z11 can do similar with some external storage?

I do like a backlit bluetooth remote. For last 3 years Ive been buying nice tech to keep myself off the booz. Z12 from Santa to get me to Christmas.

My streams kept buffering and stuttering and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out I had proton VPN (free version) connected and I didn't know it. Disconnected and my streams stopped buffering/stuttering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭BurnUp78

Why is it only sky doing this when you can access content from dozens of TV providers from around the world? If sky successfully sue people won't NBC and ESPN and Netflix etc want some of that litigation pie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,714 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

I'm comparing "over the counter" products.

Not products that one needs third party applications to make them work the way you want them to.

Just because you can pay $17 a month for an NBA pass in the US it doesn't mean that it gives you everything you need as a NBA viewer.

Disney - If you want a good laugh put your VPN on to Brazil or Argentina and enjoy the commentary on ESPN for the PL and other local leagues in South America.

This thread doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom for the bogey boxes. My so called bogey-box has legit Disney, Netflix, Peacock & Fubo on it with a VPN.

The golden territory for Disney is the Carribean because it carries Full PL with English comms.

My VPN only has virtual servers for there and Disney easily kop you using them and block you unfortunately.

Not liking the sound of this:

    https://www.aftvnews.com/how-androids-upcoming-sideload-blocking-will-affect-you-your-apps-and-your-devices/

Google has announced plans to regulate every app being sideloaded onto a certified Android device. If Google’s plans don’t change, many of the apps that can currently be sideloaded on Android TV and Google TV devices today might be blocked during installation. While there are still many unknowns, here’s how it will probably affect your currently sideloaded apps and streaming devices.

    When and where

The changes to sideloading will begin rolling out around September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. In 2027, the changes will continue to roll out globally. Since Android TV and Google TV updates tend to lag behind phone and tablet updates, it’s probably safe to assume that the sideloading changes won’t immediately apply to streaming devices, but will eventually roll out to those as well.

Not happening until at least 2029 and even then there is no guarantee that anything available then will be cheaper than what you have today.

Actually I'd estimate that it would be more expensive for the end user.

Oh and no one has had to pay Murdock for a while now, he sold Sky in 2018.

But that fact doesn't suit the rant.

Just on these "high street" gadget shops.

A friend was in one recently, bought a firestick for perfectly legitimate reasons. Went up to pay. The guy behind the counter offered him a years IPTV for €50. 10 mins later had set it up and a number to text for "customer service".

    Sky haven't a hope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,478 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Something that is odd when you think about it - in the UK the main sport is essentially entirely behind a paywall. The only live soccer on terrestrial TV is international and FA cup, right? It's surprising there isn't more of a backlash on that element of the sky deal.

It'd be like if the GAA here went entirely behind a paywall - there would be uproar.

I think it's because it came from a very low base, and it was a very poor product prior to 1992.

No top players played in England, hooligans were running the show, facilities were rundown.

There was very little soccer on TV, league and FA cup finals, maybe a few semi finals or replays, and more recently a game on Sunday.

So English soccer went from 0 to 100 in a shot, and it has been growing since.

In Ireland you had live GAA Championship games on a Sunday since 1993 (prior to that it was only the football and hurling semi finals and finals) and year after year this grew to a point where you might have two games on a Saturday and two on a Sunday.

And you also had league games on TG4 since the late 90s, and more recently club games on TG4 and RTE

So in the GAA a move to pay coverage has been more gradual, you first had Setanta with Saturday night league games around 2003 and then you had Sky in 2014.

However in all that time the traditional Sunday afternoon slots have remained free.

It could be said that English soccer fans got a raw deal, but at the same time it could be said that that is the price of fixing the game, which as I said was a mess pre 1992.
