I cant see anywhere to order it here yet. A few sales pages are up but out of stock so not sure anyone has the z12 yet. Should be widely available soon.

Perhaps @NATLOR can comment on RTE player on z11.

Did you even read the document from the NCSC ?

It's a fact based document detailing the concerns about cheap android boxes.

Where is the "attitude and tone" ?

    You're paranoid.

They signed off contending their friends in Google who wouldn't dream of harvesting and monetizing your data

Reputable sellers, Chinese or otherwise, have no interest in pre-loading malware. It is bad for business

Nothing is more insufferable than the dog-whistling that goes on over this issue.

"Oh these criminals are probably installing malware, they are doing this and that. Beware". "These people are criminals so you are paying criminal gangs".

There is no bigger shower of gangsters and criminals on this planet than the "tech bros" who have made billions feeding people a diet of hate and lies and harvesting and selling on end user data.

If I had a dodgy box I'd be happy to take my chances to be honest. Just have the app and a VPN and nothing else on the box or fire stick.

I think it's rolling out from next week . Mainland Europe tend to get it first

Cant comment on rte player never used it. I only use the box for IPTV and YouTube

As I keep saying, if you want cheap EPL, then the next rights deal will have to be a fire sale and with that watch the big players leave England and watch the clubs greatly reduce their staff.

There is a good chance the next rights package probably won't involve the traditional broadcasters, at least at the current levels.

I have no idea where the players will abscond to. La Liga are pretty skint, they can barely give away their over seas rights, The Bundesliga are given them away for free to content creators on Youtube.

Saudi is an option, but a lot of players can't adapt and they seem to have changed their model to signing younger players.

Wasn't that much interest from the streaming companies for rights this time, Amazon dropped their package.

Do Virgin media and Eir block Premier league games? I am with Pure telecom and never a bother with them.

The EPL did not offer that small package of a few midweek game nights this time around, the packages were bigger and a year longer, so Amazon decided it was not for them.

Good for the customer though, one less provider.

I've stopped trying to predict the bursting of the EPL bubble.

But if the revenue from media rights reduces then it will obviously have an effect.

If they try to take broadcasting in house then they lose the cash injection from the rights sale and take on all the costs of production.

That would not be good for consumers because the end product could be a lot more expensive than it is today.

I never suggested the EPL bubble would burst, that was you to be fair.

Sky by and large have been the chosen partner to deliver domestic football largely because they had the method of delivery and TBF they have done it well and are a big reason for the popularity of the league. But nothing lasts for ever, especially in media and especially in the current climate.

If they try to take broadcasting in house then they lose the cash injection from the rights sale and take on all the costs of production.

This is happening to an extent the season after next.

It will be a platform to launch their DTC model.

That would not be good for consumers because the end product could be a lot more expensive than it is today.

TBF neither of us know that.

A corner stone of the DTC model is it's competitive price point.

I thought they might have went big this time around but they left Sky to it. The PL didn't get the bidding war they wanted and they are used to anyway.

Amazon only used the 20 matches they had to drive up prime membership around the holidays.

I doubt the sums made sense given they would have had to shell out an awful lot more for the smallest available package this time round.

That said they have spent an absolute fortune for CL rights.

The main means of revenue for the likes of Sky is advertising and these dodgy boxs still have to play ads so you could argue this should be good for revenue as the reach is some larger now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,547 ✭✭✭SteM

This is mentioned all of the time. Sky will base their ad rates on ratings. They can't tell webuyanycar that 1.5 million people watch games but another 2 million watch them on IPTV services, so that's the rate they're going to be charged.

I’d imagine with Sky etching towards IPTV themselves totally and satellite being fazed out slowly that the next UK/Ire rights will be taken up by them with say an app for the PL and the majority of games being on the app.

Whomever do get the majority of the games live for the next packages made available will have to have a DAZN or Netflix style app made available to the public because that’s the way viewers on the whole are now use to viewing their fav programmes.

It’s a crazy situation that to currently have PL via Sky, that you must have a base pack to the value of nearly €50 then pay for Sports on top.

The days of this greed by the likes of Sky are coming to an end and they must change with the times.

It’s a crazy situation that to currently have PL via Sky, that you must have a base pack to the value of nearly €50 then pay for Sports on top.

But you can get Now TV, an app, for as low as €10 a month with codes here on Bargain Alerts.

    No contract

No need for any Sky TV subscription.

But that doesn't suit the greedy Sky narrative.

I said via Sky, not Virgin, not Voda & not Now.

I posted that AFTVnews article a couple pages back: https://www.aftvnews.com/how-androids-upcoming-sideload-blocking-will-affect-you-your-apps-and-your-devices/

Definitely doesn't sound good but hopefully will be delayed or there'll be a workaround. My TOX3 box is not Google certified according to its play store settings so perhaps could still sideload without issue...

Edit: it seems Formuler boxes are also not certified but the article states we wont have an exact device list for this until the changes roll out.

The point is that there really is no need to pay that base pack of nearly €50 then pay for sports on top.

Because you can get the sports for much cheaper on Now TV without even owning a TV nevermind a dish.

Fr, please be fair as you never seem to be .

    I discussed Sky.

Yes but he'll only get some matches he wants to watch for his €10 a month. He can get every match from Manchester to Manilla on his dodgy box for half of it. You'll do well to flog them Now TV sticks at this stage unfortunately……

You talk about "greedy Sky narrative", these services would never have existed in the first place but for the greed of everybody at involved in the upper echelons of the game. Its all coming down now like a house of cards. Good riddance.

I don't think it's the house of cards many think it is.

As I have said I have stopped predicting the bursting of the EPL bubble at this stage.

If things where so bad why did Sky and TNT as recently as 18 months ago sign a 4 year deal for EPL rights for more money than ever before (albeit at a cheaper per game price) ?

And as I keep saying, regardless of who broadcasts the games or on what sort of platform it will never be cheap to the end user, it's just to popular a product to sell cheaply.

    How's the clampdown going?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,231 ✭✭✭jj880

The NCSC just said my dodgy box has malware. Im up nights here worrying about it.

Might bin my box and sign up for Now TV instead. Sure its the same thing…

On the other hand just saved 50 euro on my IPTV sub compared to last year. Includes 3 x Now TV categories (Entertainment, Sports and UHD).

The malware they've installed on my dodgy box is very strange, it seems to be doing nothing these last 4 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,948 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

Can I get every Manchester United and Everton match on NowTv for less than €10 a month? Can I just turn on Now and choose whatever match I want to watch?

Can you guarantee that the matches they do show won't be 2 minutes behind live tv?

Let’s be honest here, the elephant in the room for Sky/TNT is the 3pm watershed in the UK.

All games should be made available but they can’t show any in the UK Live at 3pm and it’s pushing people to avail of the “dodgy box and sticks” - it’s not all about money, people want to be able to have a choice to watch any game like they can all around the globe.

I don’t think even our house priest on here will disagree with that.

Oh , before he finds my mistake - I do know we get 1 live 3pm here via Premier here in the Irish Republic.
