Bairstow bowled for 4 by Hazelwood. Root, Stokes and Bairstow have only scored 13 runs, the Brook innings proving crucial and he should be out!

Now Brook! Out for 85. England 212/7

If Carey hadn't dropped Brook early on, England would be in massive trouble.

We see so often in these situations that the bowlers get rid of the key batsmen and then get plundered for runs by the lower order, Australia need to prevent that happening.

Gawd, 212 for 7. They are going to find it difficult to get out of this and doubt the game will end in a draw.

Brook played very well, he’d have deserved a century had he managed to stick around.

England you’d imagine will be bowling tonight having posted probably a sub 300 innings total… jeez imagine the Aussies took some of those catches…. England could have been bowled out for around 210…

England 283 all out. Some awful drops by the Aussies.

Has to go down as a chance…Bairstow on replay got there but couldn’t hold on….. can’t be missing those even difficult ones.

Has Wood ever played three tests in a row? Wondering how his body will hold up...

Rinse and repeat for Warner there...gets a start, gets an edge, under no sustained pressure!

    Khawaja, Marnus, Smith, Head, Marsh

If two of them get a decent score tomorrow got to fancy Aus to go past 283. Weather looks better for batting tomorrow too.

Most he has managed is 4 in a row. Since his debut he has missed something like 80 tests through injury

He's probably enough that he didnt get taken out by Broad....

Interesting stage today, morning session will tell a lot. If Aussies keep their heads and tip along at same modest rate, they could bat today and most of tomorrow and have a nice healthy lead with two days to play. What's weather like next few days?

Bitta rain around Sunday and Monday but nothing to stop a result anyway.

Labuschagne on a strike rate of less than 8.

Is it awful batting conditions today, or what's going on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,763 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Nothing for the English bowlers in the first 45 minutes. Very tidy, very economical but no wickets, no real chances, no trouble for the watchful Australians…. Dull enough.

Bit of cloud and the lights are on.

I suspect the Aussies are making a point of playing traditional test cricket.

Khawaja usually goes slow enough. Labuschagne just not finding his form.

Aus are playing test cricket. That's all

Also doubt over Moeen Ali bowling I assume. Aussies will hope to tire out the fast bowlers.

Pretty timid field…..no pressure on the batsmen. No short leg / forward short leg. Considering the Aussies are not playing anywhere approaching aggressively…. Why the heck doesn’t Stokes put in someone under the helmet, try and build pressure ?

Aus determined to grind Eng down Proper test cricket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭dohboy

They've been bowling pretty full so I wouldn't see any point in a short leg.

Aus scored 21 runs (many of them extras) in 16 overs during the first hour of play today! It might be old-fashioned test batting but boy is it boring! 😡

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Aussies can bat for 2 days if they want, England were bowled out 2 balls short off 55 overs, that's just ridiculous on this pitch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,442 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

    Labuschagne out for 9. Yikes.

    Sensational catch by Root.

Labuschagne scored just 9 from 82!
