SNW received universal acclaim. I think at its worst, it had one mediocre episode. That's only had one short season, so easy to catch up on in time for the second season starting shortly.

That would actually be a great idea. Could tie all the TNG era shows together and follow up on some of the plot lines from those shows (like they tried to do with the Changelings here, but better!) while still moving forward with new characters and stories.

If it had the quality level of Picard S3 I'd watch it.

Strange New Worlds is the best new show. Largely standalone episodes, in the classic Trek planet-of-the-week style.

After discovery I wasn’t mad about watching the spin off. In saying that Pike was probably the best thing about it. I get why people want a Shaw spin off , his character is probably the best new one in Picard.

Problem with the Legacy show though is it will be Matalas which means season after season of universe ending mystery box arcs.

Take the old crew and Easter eggs out of this season and it's just Discovery. Outside of Shaw the crew has that same annoying Californiacentric look about them.

This was an excellent episode but it really feels like it should not have taken the writers 8 episodes to get to this point in the story. We've spent so much time with onscreen villains (changelings) who ended up being nothing more than pawns for the real threat of the Borg. I did like the idea of the Borg using the transporter tech to "seed" starfleet with DNA to act as receivers though I would have expected the younger crew to be outnumbered by their older crewmates. It did make for a chilling moment with the fleet executing the Excelsior.

Your suggestion of only having the newer "upgraded" ships in the Sol system for Frontier Day makes a lot more sense. It no longer makes the Federation look entirely defenseless by withdrawing their entire fleet to Earth and it highlights the fact that there are no older ships in system that could oppose them once they're compromised.

Well SNW was recommended by another poster, so definitely that. I'd also add in Lower Decks, though I think some of that really is heavy on the nostalgia jokes, but I think it would still be enjoyable enough even if you miss some of the references.

Best Trek since TNG has to be DS9, once you get through the first two seasons (there are some gems in those two, but it took until season 3 for DS9 to really gel). Voyager was a bit of a backwards step after DS9, but there are some cracking episodes in there. Very much more in the TNG episode a week style though, which is one of its weaknesses as a series, but means most people can just drop into a random episode anywhere and pretty much know what the story is.

Your right about DS9 1 and 2. I remember thinking it was all poor and most of it is but was shocked that "Duet" was season 1.

It feels like a later season episode and is one of the best Trek episodes ever.

We've been told that there is scene mid credits at the end of e10.

I'd bet this is where they bring Captain Shaw back via some Borg tech/ Section31 BS. They probably filmed this scene due to his popularity, so will undo the death.

Would love to see Legacy being Shaw and Seven doing their post S3 thing. Many of the TNG/DS9/VOY cast can still have their cameos in such a series. It would be great nod - just like having Spock and co in TNG was fantastic.

They need to plot out something to make Discovery a completely different timeline though - and ideally kill off Elnor, Raffi and have Jurati re-assimilated by the real Borg queen.

Then I'd be happy.

Also, Picard being pretty old and wise and kinda feeble for two seasons and 8 episodes until he gets to his old bridge and tugs his uniform after sitting in the chair. Beautifully done fan service. Loved it!

The "entire" fleet, what??

Theres a low hundreds number of ships on screen at most... Never mind the Federation is 8,000 light years across, it would take over 1.5 years to get every starship back at max warp; What a massive waste of time that would be for everyone involved. (Though seemingly we can warp anywhere in an hour or so by 2400s).

How can an interstellar fleet only have a few hundred ships and why so many classes in such a small fleet?

Its just so stupid... So many things this season are the same and it just ruins it utterly. So easy to get around too, they could have said 1st Fleet instead of the fleet and no issues caused what-so-ever.

As for the ships names: How come they're always English names, never German or Japanese etc or any of the hundreds of other species in the federation?

On the amount of classes it wasn't unusual to have classes with relatively low numbers of ships before the outset of WWII. IJN ship classes often had only 4 to 6 ships before moving to a new class

TNG used to use other sources for names, Yamato and Tsiolkovsky (built in the Soviet Union no less) spring to mind.

Did they not mention a starfleet ship earlier in the season with an alien name as well, which i laughed as it was clearly so unusual it stood out and they stumbled over it. I mean, I am not saying starfleet are racist but Jack made a good argument for being Borg.

Out of curiosity I looked up all the ships from Picard season three and quite a few have names not stemming from English or heavily anglicised but a lot of them appear to be very much in the background. Give me more hero ship names that require a pronunciation guide.
