Only saw the highlights but shocking performance from him. Fritz also out. We are getting a glimpse at tennis life beyond the Big3 now...

I watched some of it....bloody hell he was awful...looked to be something up with his arm?

I didn't see any of this match but when I seen the result I was wondering was Tsitsipas injured or sick? I see Kyrgios through in 3 sets against his good mate, I bet there were no shenanigans on the court from Kyrgios during this match.

Norrie romping home against Paire...who I have to say especially in the first set has been absolutely dreadful (I think he managed one point on the Norrie serve)..it's now 5-0 in the third...

He did have treatment on his right arm during the match so I would guess it was a factor, he just seemed way off, shame really.

Alcaraz finding this match with Baez trickier than I expected...a lot of unforced errors.

Dan Evans looks to be coasting through.

Alcaraz is two sets up on Sebastian Beaz who is now having a medical time out for some lower leg issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,019 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Petra kvitova wins in straight sets.

Baez better hope the issue with his leg is more than cramp as he can’t push off on his serve and isn’t moving around the court as well.

Ah tough stuff for Sebastian Baez as he’s just cramped up badly and that’s it you’d think.

Sad end for Baez. Some phenomenal tennis in those 2 sets.

Yeah shame Baez had to retire, was playing some good stuff in the first two sets.

Rybakina out in the first round to Clara Burel. Whilst it's difficult not to view her as the latest in a recent string of merry-go-round grand slam champions, she has got a pretty raw deal since winning Wimbledon. No ranking points or elevated ranking to show for it, no endorsements due to her Russian connections, plus very little public interest and almost always shunted to the outside courts at tournaments.

Yeah that is a bit rough although to be fair, she will always have that win and shes basically Russian so lucky that she managed to play it! I see raducanu lost easily enough , i expected her to pick up a set but most on here probably correctly had thought shed lose to cornet.

Probably a blessing in disguise for Raducanu big drop in rankings might take some of the pressure off her (though I am sure the daily mail will still go after her constantly).

Dart, Norrie and Dan Evans with very winnable looking round 2 matches.

Tough one for Draper with auger aliassime, should be a good one!

I see this as a blessing in disguise and actually puts her where she should be in terms of her tennis career. Hopefully she will be out of limelight now and she can focus on building up her game, fitness and the team around her. Once she gets that all correct and then starts getting a few wins at lower tournaments and build up her ranking then she will be back. Even though Raducanu won the US Open, I think Fernandez got the better deal, she has been quietly playing away with no focus on her.

Oh Murray as well up against Emilio Nava (very winnable on paper) on soon!

We're into the brit players here are we? Murray is must watch, I'll say that much!

Murray loses first set...he had enough chances...let a lot of break points slip.

De Minaur was excellent against Garin

Osaka unceremoniously booted out to Collins in straight sets last night, 2022 is her worst ever year at the grand slams. It's kind of decision time for he really isn't it, is she actually gonna try and make a proper go of things or not? Because I think her approach of only turning up for the hard-court slams has taken her as far as it's going to at this stage. She's obviously achieved a huge deal, world #1 and four grand slams is obviously not a poor haul, but it's so frustrating to see her letting her talents go to waste when she's obviously capable of so much more.

Sakkari out in the second round after a horrific miss on match point, must surely be the worst player to have ever reached world #3?

Murray kicked into gear here playing some decent stuff...levelled up at one set all..now 4-1 up in third

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,410 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Murray coasts through in the end really in 4 sets...Nava really not up to much tbh still only 20 though I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭cudsy1

I watched first set, well over an hour, murray looked totally wrecked, I thought he was gonna lose in 3 or 4. I googled nava tho, only 7th game at tour level I think? He was unreal first set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,410 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Yeah that first set was a slog. Yeah Nava really inexperienced and it showed.

Fair play to Murray though he is a battler if nothing else, Berrettini in the next round is a tough ask though.

Watching some of the Draper match as I can't sleep, wow he has been good, serve pretty effective and forehand excellent. Up two sets now on auger aliassime! (And now a break in the third)

I see Serena Williams has beaten Kontaveit, a terrific win, but a long match you would expect that to come back and bite her.

Terrific third set from Jack Draper, he beats auger aliassime 6-4, 6-4, 6-4

In January Draper was outside top 250 with this run he will be inside the top 50.

I am guessing big drop for auger aliassime in rankings after this as he was defending a lot of points.

To beat Ruusuvori and FAA without dropping a set is actually remarkable. I was thinking he could be top 30 a month ago, the brits could be looking at a top 10er!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,410 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Dan Evans looked to be sailing through against Duckworth but slipped a bit in the third set...but through in four to play Cilic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,410 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Saw some of the Alcaraz match very impressive.

Norrie two sets up on Sousa but third one very tight, but he takes on tie break.

Incredibly solid really as usual doesn't make many errors.

I had coric brooksby on in the background. Brooksby seriously clutch, real dog. Coric brutal on break and set points. 4 games took over 40 minutes in 3rd set. Back down to earth I suppose. Forehand seems a weak point alright as glasso was saying.
